3 BRUSH PAGE 3 OF 9 There is a valve on the back side of the hose reel (150 of 1 in three 50 sections) in order to isolate the hose reel if necessary. There is a direct fill 2 ½ on the rear (bypasses the pump) and a 2 ½ intake on each side (goes into the pump). The middle light of the pump panel lights only comes on when the main pump is engaged (NFPA 1901 requirement). It is a reminder for when you are sitting in the cab or at the pump panel. The main pump pressure gauge will not register when using the auxiliary pump. However, the auxiliary pump pressure gauge will register while using the main pump. There is a backpack pump filler under the diamond-plate step at the pump panel. This is fed from the sump of the poly-tank in order to ensure it is not impacted by any foam or pump pressure. It is gravity feed only and is controlled by a valve on the pump panel. There is a valve behind the pump panel to isolate the front discharges in case the flex line is burned, broken or otherwise inoperable. The main pump is a 500 GPM (at 150 psi in volume mode) two-stage Darley that is PTO driven. Do not put transmission into d. Flip toggle switch down to disengage. This pump supplies all discharges. There are six petcocks to drain the water from the pump for freeze protection. They are accessed through the pump panel. There is no main pump drain. 5 BRUSH PAGE 5 OF 9 Auxiliary Pumping Operations Things to Know - Auxiliary Pumping The auxiliary pump is a 180 GPM (at 100 psi) Darley driven by the diesel motor above the pump panel. This is primarily for pump & roll and supplies all discharges except the 2 ½ outlets. The aux pump can be started at the panel or in cab. The primer button works for both the main and aux pump. When you turn off the auxiliary pump (or cycle the batteries), there is a timer mechanism that automatically opens a valve to release excess pressure and water. Every time you power up the rig it will spit water on the ground. Putting the auxiliary pump switch into the on position activates a glow plug for cooler climates. For normal weather, it is not expected that we will need to use the glow plug feature (e.g. you can go straight from off to start). The next turn starts the engine. The auxiliary pump has a 5/8 recirculation line that is always open. If you are pumping for long periods of time at low volume or high pressure, it is recommended that you also open the tank fill. There is an alternator on the auxiliary pump. It is not hooked up. It is just part of the belt path. The fuel filter for the auxiliary pump is under the driver s seat area. 6 BRUSH PAGE 6 OF 9 Pump Panel Place the road transmission into low gear and drive. Engine and road speed will not affect pump pressure, both systems are completely separate. Turn the Aux Pump switch to ON/Start Once pressure reads release switch Utilize pump throttle If pressure fails to read activate primer button Foam Located between the front seats Turn switch on Set foam flow rate Blinking light indicates low foam Solid light indicates empty foam Structure pre-treat.5% Direct attack.3 -.5% Overhaul/Mop Up.2 % Brush pre-treat.1 1% depending on fire ground factors Foam Fill On the pump panel lower left side is a pick up port and foam transfer switch that when used with a wand can fill the foam tank directly from a foam bucket on the ground. The foam fill will automatically stop once full. The foam tank can also be filled directly from the top of the vehicle.

Stop, place transmission in neutral, set brake, engage front axle, switch transfer case to neutral, then switch to low range Low gear is to be used in conjunction with 4-wheel drive. Maintain proper rpm range 1,500 to 2,000 when driving up hill Use auxiliary fan during low gear operations Exhaust break off when climbing with the model 34 Off road and steep road grades. Will cause overheating of engine Off road exhaust brake use will cause lunging Downhill compression braking The gear you climb a slope with will be the gear you descend the hill with. Keep heel on floorboard while using brake Do not allow wheels to lock up Damaged OES equipment: procurement procedure to be discussed OES responsibility to replace damaged equipment on the model 34 when operating on OES function

8 BRUSH PAGE 8 OF 9 Local responsibility to replace damaged equipment on the model 34 when operating on local function Cab and Body There is an extended fuel tank vent valve that runs up the back of the cab so fuel does not run out when working on steep slopes (the unit is designed to traverse up to a 30- degree side slope). All of the air-lines below the frame rail have been wrapped with a fire curtain like material. Besides three intake ember-suppressor screens, there is a cab air filter. It has a paper filter after the ember screen. Check the filter and clean it often when driving in dusty conditions. It is possible an ember could get through, so if you smell strong smoke in the cab while on a fire, look there. There are four spring mounts on the body of the unit. They will come off the frame rails when on uneven ground to allow for flex. The compartments are designed to still be able to be opened when there is 12 of deflection between the sides or front-back (e.g. driver s front wheel is 12 below the passenger rear tire, etc.). If there is more deflection than this, they may bind (they did go to 17 ½ in the testing process). The electrical circuit board is under the center console. We need to make sure we do not have any holes on the box so no liquids go through. Keep liquids away from the center console. The hose bed covers have 50 lb gas struts to hold them open. However, in high wind, they will close. Use the pin to lock the hose bed covers in the upright position. The rear tail-board folding step has a tab that keeps it from hyper-extending forward. Cal Fire advises to travel with the step pinned up to prevent damage. Be careful as this is a knuckle buster. Every time you power on the unit you must reset ta (talk around) button so that ta is displayed on the led screen. High idle mid cab console. Set speed to 1000rpm Hose roller mounts, 2 hitches for removable hose rollers MAIN DRIVE ENGINE & TRANSMISSION The regenerative particulate cleansing system on the exhaust is under the captain s seat between the cab and frame rail. When it is in regenerative mode, it can reach 1200 degrees. Keep everything away from it that could ignite. This should only happen about once every 10,000 to 15,000 miles A light illuminates on the dash to notify you that it is recommended that you do a manual regeneration. It will take you about 20 minutes of being parked to complete this, so make sure you do it only when you are not in a hurry (e.g. do it when in fire camp or in station). Additionally, you can do a manual regeneration if you have 20 minutes of non-stop highway speed driving available to you. If you ignore the first light, it will go to a second light. If you ignore that one, it puts you into idle mode and it does it for you. Normal time frame for the transition from first warning to auto regenerate is about 20 hours of operating time. Further info is on the driver s side visor. There is an engine brake on the unit. It has three settings (1, 2, and 3). 1 is light retardation, 2 medium, and 3 is heavy. Allison transmission crankcase is filled with Castrol synthetic fluid. This is a more expensive fluid that doubles the changing interval. It is required to handle the extra heat the late model emissions engines produce. If the unit will not move forward or backwards when you put it in gear check the transfer case button on the center dash it is probably in the neutral position and needs to be in high position for normal driving regardless if you are in 2 or 4-wheel drive. Fuel card is in yellow binder above driver s visor. Tab in binder has list of gas stations that should take the card. Limited to $500 per day. Skip the first digit of the license plate when entering millage. Accident forms and policy are in addition to the ESC forms (located in an envelope above the officer s side visor). 1500lb front winch 12vDC with remote operation,90 7/16 rope
