2 SCOPE This specification covers the requirements for the installation of luminaires and brackets on poles complete with associated wiring and connections. 3 Luminaires, Floodlighting Type Floodlighting luminaires shall meet the requirements CSA Standard C 22.2 No.97 and the specific requirements of the contract Lamps Lamps shall meet the requirements of ANSI Standard C with ANSI Designations shown in Table 1. 4 Brackets, Floodlighting Type Bracket arm assemblies consisting of the number of arms and orientation indicated in the contract, shall be fabricated from Schedule 40 galvanized steel pipe, with 50 mm diameter IPS tenons meeting the requirements of ANSI/ASTM Standard A53, Grade B. Bracket assemblies shall be suitable for slipfit mounting on 75 mm diameter IPS tenons, with three 12 mm diameter stainless steel machine bolts in tapped holes securing the pole slip fitting. Bracket assemblies shall be welded in accordance with the requirements of CSA Standard W59 and shall be hot dip galvanized in accordance with CSA Standard G Conduit and Fittings Conduit and fittings required for wood pole mounting shall be of the rigid PVC type meeting the requirements of CSA Standard C 22.2 No Hardware Hardware for wood pole mounting shall meet the requirements of CSA Standard C Grounding Materials Ground wire and connectors shall meet the requirements of section of OPSS Fuse Holders and Fuses Fuse holders shall be of the in-line type suitable for use with #12 AWG conductors, rated 600 V and shall be complete with protective boots. Fuses shall meet the requirements of CSA Standard C 22.2 No. 59, 600 V, type KTK with current rating as indicated in the contract CONSTRUCTION General Lamps shall be installed after poles have been erected and the brackets and luminaires mounted and levelled. Luminaires shall be kept free of conditions where moisture or dirt could damage the ballasts or reflecting surfaces of the optical system Brackets, Roadway Lighting Type Brackets shall be installed at right angles to the centreline of the roadway being served. Brackets shall be aligned so that the wiring aperture in metal or concrete poles is located under the hollow bracket arm. Bracket clamping assemblies shall be securely tightened to prevent shifting by wind. Brackets shall be mounted on wood poles using 16 mm diameter galvanized steel machine bolts, nuts and 60 x 60 mm washer and 12 mm diameter x 150 mm long galvanized steel lag bolts Brackets, Floodlighting Type Bracket assemblies shall be oriented to give the floodlight aiming indicated in the drawings with each floodlight free of masking of light by other floodlights. Bracket assemblies shall be secured in place by tightening the slip-fitter bolts such that they bite into the pole tenon by approximately 1 mm. Page 4 Rev. Date: 09/1984 OPSS 617

5 Luminaires, Roadway Lighting Type Luminaires shall be checked for the correct optical system settings to give the designate type of light distribution as defined in the IES Lighting Handbook. If required, the Contractor shall re-set the lampholder in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions to give the proper type of distribution indicated in the contract. Luminaires shall be mounted on brackets and shall be installed level along both the longitudinal and transverse axis. Luminaire clamping assemblies shall be securely tightened, upon completion of levelling, to prevent shifting by wind. Glass refractors shall be installed complete with gasket. Mounting hardware shall be securely tightened. The luminaire reflector and refractor shall be thoroughly cleaned prior to installing lamps. Lamps shall be installed with the installation date marked of the lamp base Luminaires, Floodlighting Type Luminaires shall be installed on the bracket assemblies and secured by tightening the slipfitter bolts such that they bite into the tenon by approximately 1 mm. The luminaire reflector and refractor shall be thoroughly cleaned prior to installing lamps. Lamps shall be installed with the installation date marked on the lamp base. Floodlighting luminaires shall be initially aimed using the horizontal and vertical angle indicated in the contract. The luminaires shall be re-aimed under nighttime operational conditions in accordance with the requirement of sub-section Wiring and Connections Riser wires in metal and concrete poles shall be terminated at the luminaire terminal block and installed through the bracket and pole to the pole handhole. Riser wires on wood poles shall enter the bracket with a drip loop and shall be installed in conduit where the distance from the bracket to the low voltage bus exceeds 450 mm. Connections or riser wires to the assigned feeder conductors shall be made with compression connectors insulated with insulating covers. In-line fuse holders and fuses shall be installed in the pole handhole and left in an accessible location Grounding For metal or concrete pole mounting, a #12 AWG insulated (green) stranded copper ground wire shall be installed between the luminaire housing ground terminal and the ground stud in the pole handhole. For wood pole mounting, a #12 AWG insulated (green) stranded copper ground wire shall be installed between the luminaire housing ground terminal and the #6 AWG system ground wire where installed. Grounding work shall be carried out in accordance with the requirements of section of OPSS Replacing Luminaires The Contractor shall remove existing luminaires in accordance with the requirements of section of OPSS 610 and install new luminaires in accordance with the requirements of sub-sections or where required in the contract. Existing riser wires and luminaire ground wire shall be salvaged and connected to the new luminaires. Page 5 Rev. Date: 09/1984 OPSS 617

6 Relamping Where required in the contract the Contractor shall remove existing lamps in accordance wit the requirements of section of OPSS 610, thoroughly clean the luminaires and install new lamps in accordance with the requirements of sub-section or Quality Control The Contractor shall ensure that all lamps, installed in luminaires, have a minimum "burning-in" period of 100 hours prior to acceptance of the work by the Authority. The Contractor shall adjust floodlighting luminaires, under nighttime conditions, to the aiming angles determined by the Engineer. Adjustments shall be carried out in the presence of the Engineer. The Contractor shall perform all tests required on the wiring system in accordance with the requirements of section of OPSS MEASUREMENT FOR PAYMENT Where the contract includes tender items using the Individual Item Method, measurement shall be made for each luminaire BASIS OF PAYMENT All Inclusive Price Method Payment at the contract price for the tender item 'Luminaires and Brackets' shall be full compensation for all labour, equipment and materials required to do all work described herein including installation of all brackets, bracket assemblies, and luminaires regardless of size or type, all lamps, riser wires and connections, fuse holders and fuses, luminaire ground wire and connections, conduit and fittings, removal and salvaging or disposal of existing luminaires to be replaced and relamping. Such payment shall include compensation for all hardware, accessories, adjustments and testing required Individual Item Method Payment at the contract price for the tender item(s): 'Roadway Lighting Luminaires and Bracket Assemblies', 'Floodlighting Luminaires and Bracket Assemblies' shall be full compensation for all labour, equipment and materials required to install luminaires and brackets, regardless of size or type, and shall include the installation of lamps, riser wires and connections, luminaire ground wire and connections, fuse holders and fuses, luminaires, accessories, adjustment and all testing required. Payment at the contract price for the tender item(s): 'Replace Roadway Lighting Luminaires', 'Replace Floodlighting Luminaires' shall be full compensation for all labour, equipment and materials required to remove and salvage or dispose of existing luminaires and lamps and to install new luminaires and lamps on existing brackets. Payment at the contract price for the tender item(s): 'Relamp Roadway Lighting Luminaires', 'Relamp Floodlighting Luminaires' shall be full compensation for all labour, equipment and materials required to remove and salvage or dispose of existing lamps, clean existing luminaires and to install new lamps in existing luminaires.
