3 Executive Summary The Option Industries Fluid Monitoring Station (FMS) is a portable unit which monitors and records fluid rates and total volumes of water pulled from location. The unit is equipped with four 240W LED lights that can be powered on-demand and illuminate the work area when required. Power is supplied through a battery bank consisting of eight 6V batteries in a seriesparallel configuration. The battery bank is recharged through four solar panels, as well as an 8kW diesel generator as backu p. By combining solar energy with a large battery bank, the station requires very minimal run time of the diesel generator. The FMS has two 3 suction inlets to extract water from the water source, and two 3 outlets where up to two water trucks can pump water from the system. The flow rate and totalized flow are calculated using electromagnetic flowmeters with 99.6% accuracy. The unit uses a key fob authentication system to identify trucks and authorize its use. There are two card readers located on either side of the unit. Once a key fob is swiped against a card reader, the system will identify the truck on the screen and the operator must verify their Unit # and Company Name, and input their Name, Location, Water Use and Division. If the operator does not have a key fob, the authentication system can be bypassed by pressing a bypass button on the screen, and the operator can go thru the same verification, except the system will not automatically identify their Unit # and Company. The operator must input all this information manually. Once this is completed and verified by the operator, an isolation valve is opened to allow the operator to start pumping water. The flow rates and totalized flow are shown to the operator in real-time on a 22 touch screen, and the process values are logged every second of the job. Any time the maximum flow rate is exceeded throughout the job, the flow rate and time of occurrence are recorded and logged. A light beacon will also light up red any time the max flow rate is exceeded. If the operator exceeds 90% of the permitted volume for the site, the isolation valve is opened preventing further fluid from being pumped. The maximum flow rate and maximum volume are configurable from the main screen. Once the job is completed, the operator can swipe the key fob to end the job. If the operator forgets to log out of the syst em, the system will time out after 5 minutes of inactivity and go into a low power state. The touch screen will turn black and t he totalized flow will be reset to zero. Once the job is completed, the system will send an with a detailed report of the job to all interested parties.

4 Component Overview Solar Panels Each unit is equipped with four 300W solar panels.

5 Component Overview LED Lights Four 240W LED lights provide ample light to illuminate the entire work area.

6 Component Overview Diesel Generator The system is optimized to use the solar panels to recharge the battery bank. However, if there is insufficient energy generated and the batteries have depleted, an 8kW diesel generator is available as a backup source to recharge the batteries.

7 Component Overview Key Fob Reader Two key fob readers are located on the unit to allow the use of two water trucks simultaneously.

8 Component Overview Light Beacons The light beacons have two colors, green and red. Once the operator signs in using the key fob, the respective beacon will light up green. Any time the operator exceeds the maximum flow rate, the beacon will light up red.

9 Component Overview Touch Screen The unit is equipped with a 22 touch screen. This screen shows current flow rates and totalized flow. A start and stop button is also located on the right. These switches can be used by the operator to turn the lights on and off. If the operator does not shut the lights off after 5 minutes of inactivity, the lights will shut off on their own.

10 Component Overview Flowmeters Each unit is equipped with two flowmeters that are housed in a protected cabinet as shown above.

11 Component Overview Inlet & Outlet Piping Two 3 inlet feed water through the flowmeters into two 3 outlets. The inlet are located lower than the outlets to allow for water to flow back to the water source.

12 Component Overview Heating System A coolant heater is installed with a heating loop through the battery bank and fluid monitoring system. This keeps the engine at operating temperature and guarantees engine start even at low outside temperatures, maintains the batteries at optimum operating temperature and prevents water in the pipes from freezing. The heater runs off diesel and has very low fuel burn. The electrical draw, even when the lights are running, is below the solar charging capabilities of the system.

14 Fuel Consumption The unit will burn an average of 1505L per year, with all of the fuel burn coming in the winter months. The system is designed to be selfsustainable for 8 months of the year.

15 Screen Design When the flowmeter station is not in use, the screen will be blacked out by default. Once the operator swipes their key fob, the screen will turn on. The screen is split into two sides, one for each respective pumping station. If a station is not activated, then the operator is prompted to swipe their key fob in order to activate it. Alternatively, the operator may bypass the authentication system by pressing the area where it states Press here to bypass key card authentication system.

16 Screen Design After swiping into the system, a Login Screen is activated. The system will automatically detect the Key Card ID and GPS coordinates of the unit, as well as the Unit # and Company. The operator has the ability to change the Unit # and Company Name if it is incorrect, and if this info is changed, it will notify the system administrator. Once the change has been validated, it will be permanently implemented. The operator must specify their Name, Location, Water Usage and Division. If any of these fields are missing or incomplete, the system will not allow the operator to continue. This ensures that all information is properly input into the system. A Past Location History button will show the operator the different locations he s been logged into the past 5 days.

17 Screen Design Once the operator logs onto the system, the respective station is activated. The operator is then able to see the current flow rate that fluid is being pumped, as well as the totalized flow. This screen is also used to setup the Max Flow Rate and Max Volume for the location. Once the flow total reaches 90% of the Max Volume, then the system will shut down preventing any further water from being pumped.

18 Screen Design If the maximum flow rate is exceeded, then the Flow Rate on the screen will flash red, indicating the operator is pumping water too quickly.
