2 2/7.0 PURPOSE This specification describes the minimum requirements for electrical components to be used and applied on mobile equipment. This standard applies to high voltage (greater than 30 volts AC or DC). 2.0 APPLICATION This specification, applies at any Vale locations indicated with approval on the cover page, with the following exceptions: 2. EXCEPTIONS None. 3.0 REFERENCE DOCUMENTATION The following documents were used in the development of this document or have instructions and procedures applicable to it. They shall be used in their most recent revision. 4.0 CONTEXT All electrical equipment and wiring will comply with the OHSA Regulations, Ontario Electrical Safety Code and the CAN/CSA-M42-93, Use of Electricity in Mines. All drawings are required to be certified by an Ontario Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) Refer to applicable standards such as M42-93/2000 (5.0.2 AC supply to Mobile Electrical Equipment). All drawings are to be in electronic format(s) as approved by VALE General Engineering Department (GED). licable GED standards including assigned drawing numbers are to be followed.

3 3/7 5.0 QUANTITY General electrical requirements for underground mobile equipment fall under the following categories: Electrical Systems Enclosures Voltages Circuit breakers, fuses and contactors Wiring, circuits and junction boxes Receptacles E-stop buttons Ground check test button Cable reels and trailing cable Meters Switches Lighting fixtures 6.0 QUALITY 6. SYSTEM COMPONENT REQUIREMENTS 6.. Electrical systems The electrical systems must have approval from an organisation accredited by the Standards Council of Canada. See the ESA (Electrical safety Authority) bulletin and rule of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code. There is to be NO open bus in the main electrical panel Enclosures Where electrical enclosures may be exposed to the elements or used under similar conditions, they shall be NEMA 4 (or better) rating. Additional protection such as cowlings etc. may be required. When greater than 30 volts, the outside of the enclosure will indicate the highest voltage that is inside and have Danger XXX Volts - Authorized Persons Only. The covers on the slip ring compartment must be arranged to allow easy access. The cover is to be light enough to be easily removed by one person.

4 4/ Voltages Unless other wise specified, the supply voltage to the machine will be 600 volts AC 3-phase 60 Hz. The main drive motors are to be rated for 575 volts AC 3-phase 60 Hz, and comply with the IEEE 84 specification or equivalent Circuit breakers, fuses and contactors All power circuit breakers, fuses and contactors, operating with voltages greater than 30 volts will have the line side conductors on the top of the device and the load conductors on the bottom of the device. If these devices are mounted on their side then the line side terminals will be on the left side and the load terminals will be on the right side Wiring, circuits and junction boxes Control wiring, equipment and junction boxes, used for the machine (Engine controls, machine function controls, solenoids) that mechanical personnel will have to work on, shall be located in separate enclosures from the main electrical panel and have no voltages in them greater them 30 volts. Any wiring or cables that leave the main electrical panels with voltages in them 30 volts or greater are to be distinguished from the other cables and wiring on the machine (yellow jacket or wrap). Install a 2-volt 20-amp or 24-volt 0-amp circuit (depending on power supply on machine) into the operator s compartment and label it Accessories. This circuit is to have a circuit breaker protecting it. Terminate the wiring in an enclosure on terminal blocks Receptacles Install a 0 volt 5 amp weatherproof GFI receptacle on the side of the main electrical panel E-stop buttons Install a red E-stop pushbutton (maintained) at the operating workstation. This E-Stop is to remove the power from all of the electrical prime movers on the machine. When the operating workstation is the same as the tramming location the electrical E-Stop and

5 5/7 emergency brake buttons are to be distinctly located and identified so as to prevent confusion during the associated task. Install a red E-stop pushbutton (maintained) on the door of the main electrical panel. Wire the ground check wire through the E-stop to trip the off board Ground fault panel when the E- Stop is activated. Identify it as Main Electrical E-Stop. This E-Stop is to remove the power from all of the electrical prime movers on the machine. A Ground Check test button is to be placed in series with the E-Stop button Ground check test button Install a Ground Check test pushbutton on the door of the main electrical panel. Wire the ground check wire through the ground check test to trip the off board Ground fault panel when the pushbutton is activated. Identify it Ground Check Test Cable reels and trailing cable Cable reels must include limit switches to first give the operator a warning that they are at the end of the electrical cable and then to stop the machine from going any further in the forward direction. The machine must be able to back out of this condition. Cable reel capacity must be confirmed with the mine site that the machine is being purchased for. Trailing cable to meet the requirements of CSA Standard CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 96. VALE typically uses type SHD-GC cable and will supply the trailing cable and plug to be installed to the local supplier s shop unless otherwise specified Meters A digital voltmeter (suitable for the duty) to indicate the main incoming voltage is to be located on main electrical panel door. The meter is to be visible and readable from 6 feet. A digital ammeter (suitable for the duty) to indicate the current of each main motor is to be located on main electrical panel door. The meter is to be visible and readable from 6 feet. 6.. Switches Each machine must have a durable, quick make, quick break, main disconnect switch with visible blades that that isolates all of the AC power on the machine. (Excluding the power on the machine slip rings.) This disconnect switch must be capable of interrupting the maximum

6 6/7 load of the machine and have a symmetrical fault rating of 25KA. The line side terminals of the main disconnect must be suitably guarded to prevent inadvertent contact. The main disconnect switch must be lockable with a pad lock Lighting Lighting fixtures mounted on the equipment where there is a possibility of a hydraulic oil mist or spray contacting the fixture will have no external parts of the fixture exceeding 95oC. Metal-Halide fixtures produces the best combination of safety based on operating temperatures and measurable light at the face; therefore they are the preferred fixtures when we are required to illuminate the face for the operator. Fixtures with quartz bulbs in them are not to be used because of the extremely high operating temperature of the quartz bulbs. 7.0 APPENDICES endix A: Revision and Transition Notes endix B: Keywords
