6. MAINTENANCE 6.1 JACKING POINTS FOR TRAILER Jacking Point Jacking Point Jacking Point NO JACKING POINT It is advised that the jack head should have a large area to spread the load. Issue : - Maint/WS,01 49
6.2 CARE OF BODY AND PAINT WORK The use of cold water at normal tap pressure is recommended for the first three months, after which hot water washes at temperatures of below 60 degrees centigrade at a distance no closer than 300mm from the surface is permissible with care. Any damage to the painted surfaces, e.g. Dents, scratches, should be treated and repainted as soon as possible to prevent any further degradation of the bodywork. Always ensure lubricant points, slides etc. are adequately greased after the use of high pressure cleaners. In the interests of safety always clean surplus grease and oil from the insides of pillars and decking. Never clean the lifting chains with a high pressure cleaner or detergent as this not only cleans the chain but you will also remove any lubrication that was in the chain and water will have entered the joints. (See chain care in the maintenance section 8.6) 6.3 TILTING THE CAB (normal operation) Lifting The Cab If the rigid is fitted with a front mounted ladder remove clips and hinge ladder down to the ground. It is very important to carry out this task first to avoid serious damage to the cab panels Engage the PTO, the engine left at tick over will suffice Make sure the peak deck is in its fully lowered position at rear (green lever) Make sure there is sufficient gap between the rear of the peak deck and the front of the top deck. Lower the front of the top deck if a larger gap is required (left hand front red lever) Lift the over cab platform to its maximum height (left hand black lever) making sure that there is enough clearance between the rear of peak and front of top deck The cab can now be tilted following the truck manufacturers instructions. Issue : - Maint/WS,01 50
6.2.2 Lowering The Cab Lower the cab following the truck manufacturer s instructions Lower the over cab platform until it bottoms out on to the stops (left hand black lever) If fitted re-position the ladder making sure that it is securely locked in the up position Disengage PTO. 6.3 TILTING THE CAB (without PTO) Lifting the Cab Detailed instruction on the use of the hand pump can be found in the control section If the rigid is fitted with a front mounted ladder remove clips and hinge ladder down to the ground. It is very important to carry out this task first to avoid serious damage to the cab panels Turn the change over valve from the PTO position to hand pump position. The change over valve is located just behind the rigid control bank; a label on the side of the superstructure will indicate the direction to turn the lever which has a maximum travel of 90 degrees Make sure the peak deck is in its fully lowered position at rear (green lever) Make sure there is sufficient gap between the rear of the peak deck and the front of the top deck. Lower the front of the top deck if a larger gap is required using the supplied bar in the hand pump. Pump the lever holding out the left hand red lever until the deck lifts off the locks release the lock then lower the deck. The vehicle will have to be charged with air to carry out this manoeuvre The over cab platform can now be raised up with the hand pump whilst holding out the left hand black lever no air is required for this operation The cab can now be tilted following the truck manufacturers instructions The change over valve must be returned to the PTO position before the PTO can be engaged. Issue : - Maint/WS,01 51
6.3.2 Lowering The Cab (Without PTO) Lower the cab following the truck manufacturer s instructions Lower the over cab platform until it bottoms out on the stops (left hand black lever) If fitted re-position the ladder making sure that it is securely locked in the up position Return change over valve to PTO position Issue : - Maint/WS,01 52

6.8 TRAILER COUPLING Transporter fit two types of trailer coupling, Rockinger and VBG. Both coupling manufacturers have a different policy in the way couplings should be maintained Rockinger Every 6 weeks steam clean the coupling with the pin in the closed position. Re-lubricate the coupling pin and support ring with heavy duty (EP3) grease) this is a waterproof grease. Lubricate the lower funnel bearing with EP3. (grease nipple can be found on the bottom of the funnel o/s) VBG At regular intervals (6 weeks) lubricate the mechanism with Mechanism. Do not grease the coupling. Lubricate the coupling pin, support ring & release lever shaft then remove the plastic plug on the top n/s of the operating mechanism and pump in a liberal amount of oil. This must be done with the coupling in the locked position. Issue : - Maint/WS,01 58
