1 Sequential Turn Signals TCSF-03 Installation Instructions FOR ONLINE INSTRUCTIONS VISIT OUR WEBSITE AT Thank you for your purchase of the TCSF-03 Sequential Turn Signal kit. Your kit includes the following items, depending on the kit purchased: 2 - TCSF-03 sequential modules ring terminals (may already be attached to sequencer modules) butt connectors 6 - Wire ties universal sockets (Deluxe kits only) bulbs (Deluxe kits only) 1 - HD12 heavy duty flasher (Deluxe kit only) NOTE THE DELUXE KIT INCLUDES EVERYTHING YOU SHOULD NEED TO INSTALL IN YOUR CAR. THIS DOES NOT NECESSARILY MEAN YOU WILL REQUIRE EVERYTHING IN THE KIT. FOR EXAMPLE, IN NEWER MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE YOU DO NOT HAVE TO REPLACE THE TURN SIGNAL FLASHER AS THE STOCK ONE IS ALREADY ELECTRONIC. You will need the following tools to install the kit in your car: Wire cutters Wire strippers Wire crimpers Utility knife for stripping tape from factory harnesses Electrical tape for taping them back up Drill and 1 holesaw or Dremel-type tool for enlarging holes in tail light housings Assorted hand tools for removing tail lights from car Test Light Installation should take roughly an hour provided the installer has basic automotive/electrical knowledge. All vehicles will differ slightly so you may have to modify your installation procedure accordingly. THESE INSTRUCTIONS ASSUME YOU VE BOUGHT A DELUXE KIT AND THEREFORE SHOW THE SOCKETS INCLUDED WITH THAT KIT. IF YOU CHOOSE TO BUY YOUR OWN SOCKETS YOU LL HAVE TO CHANGE THE PROCEDURE ACCORDINGLY. Let s begin!

2 STEP ONE: PREPARING THE VEHICLE Before you install the sequencer there are some preparations you must make to the vehicle. These modifications include replacing the vehicle's stock turn signal flasher with a Tridon HD12 (most domestic vehicles require the HD12. Most imports already have electronic flashers installed). The HD12 is included in the "deluxe" kit. Replacing the factory flasher is necessary in most vehicles to get the best flash rate. This is probably the easiest step. You simply locate the flasher, pull it out, and replace it with the electronic unit. In most vehicles it's in the fuse box: Some vehicles have their flashers in a different location. To find it turn your signal light on, get under the dash, and follow your ears - trace the clicking sound and you'll find the flasher. Once you ve installed the new flasher it s time to move on to the tail lights. Most vehicles that appear to have three lights per side in reality only have two. The third light is only a park light and does not function as a stop/turn light. Because of this, a socket on each side must be replaced with a dual-element socket (included in Deluxe kits). *Some vehicles, such as Camaros, may require TWO sockets to be replaced on each side. To determine your needs, first turn on a signal light and observe the rear of the car (MAKE SURE ALL BULBS ARE GOOD). Note which lights are flashing and which lights are not flashing this will be important for this step. There are generally three tail light arrangements:

3 Once you ve determined the layout of your stock tail lights you must replace the one that doesn t flash with a bulb that will. This step tells you how. IGNORE any backup lights or license plate lights. You are only interested in the three main tail light sections per side. These instructions show a setup in which the innermost lights must be replaced, but if the center or outer lights must be replaced on your car the procedure is similar: If one of your tail light bulbs is small like the one pictured above you will have to modify your tail light housing in order to accept the larger two-element bulb:

4 Modifying the tail lights continued: Now insert the universal sockets (only included with DELUXE kits) and factory sockets as shown above - again, the actual position of the universal sockets may differ on your car. In some vehicles you may find that the body of the car interferes with the universal socket when it's in the inner position. Because of this possibility we recommend that you try the universal socket in other positions or use a stock replacement type socket. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. Installing the universal socket in a tight location could result in the wiring harness being pinched by the socket and could result in harness damage. Step Two: Wiring the sequencer Before you start wiring the module you need to determine which wires you ll be connecting the sequencer to. To do so, use a test light and perform the following: 1. Connect a test light's ground lead to a good, solid ground 2. Turn on the left signal light 3. Probe the wires going into a left socket. When you find the wire that makes the test light flash in conjunction with the signal light make note of its color. This is the wire you need. 4. Repeat for the right side.

5 There are a few different wiring methods, depending on how your tail lights are configured (as determined earlier). If your innermost light was not flashing: Your stock wiring would look something like this: (remember, ignore backup lights, license plate lights, etc) And you would wire the sequencer as shown to the RIGHT NOTE: Socket you ve replaced is shown in dark yellow. Stop/Turn wiring shown in red (the wire colors in your car will differ) *********************************************************** **************************************************************************** If your center light was not flashing (inner and outer lights are flashing): Your stock wiring would look like this: And you would wire the sequencer as shown to the RIGHT Continued

6 If your outermost light was not flashing: Your stock wiring would look something like this: (remember, ignore backup lights, license plate lights, etc) And you would wire the sequencer as shown to the RIGHT Your sequencer is now wired! To test them out, START THE ENGINE (engine must be running during testing/tuning procedure) and turn on your signal lights. Test both sides and if they work, you're almost finished! Simply re-mount the tail lights and go show 'em off! If they don't work, they likely require tuning. Flip the page for the troubleshooting section.

7 TROUBLESHOOTING CONDITION Lights occasionally do not sequence, as if the sequencer is skipping a beat Third (outermost) lights don't light up CURE Occasionally dropping a cycle is normal. This is due to the sequencer having slightly different timing than your car s turn signal flasher. Adjusting the sequencer may help by reducing the frequency of skipping. Incorrect turn signal flasher. Be sure to replace the flasher as outlined in "preparing the vehicle" Sequential module requires tuning. See "tuning the module" Bulbs burned out. Be sure all bulbs are OK Lights sequence out fine when the signal light is on but the outer bulbs don't come on when the hazard lights are on, or the outer lights flash too quickly Lights don't sequence at all. All three come on at once Lights sequence out at uneven intervals, or they sequence out too fast or too slow Any or all lights don't light up, or lights come on in incorrect order Hazard flasher must be replaced with an electronic unit. See "preparing the vehicle" Bad ground to the sequential module. Be sure the black wire coming from the module is connected to a good, reliable chassis ground. Module requires tuning. See "tuning the module" Incorrect wiring. Check your wiring. Bad bulb. Check bulbs. Module requires tuning. This condition could cause the outermost lights to not light up. 8 TUNING THE MODULE NOTE: THE MODULE IS PRE-TUNED AND TESTED BEFORE IT IS SHIPPED AND IN MOST CASES TUNING THE MODULE IS NOT REQUIRED. IF YOUR LIGHTS ARE SEQUENCING PROPERLY YOU DO NOT NEED TO TUNE THE MODULE. PROPER SEQUENCING OCCURS WHEN THE INNER LIGHT COMES ON, THEN THE CENTER, THEN THE OUTER. THE OUTER LIGHT WILL ONLY COME ON MOMENTARILY AND THEN ALL THREE LIGHTS WILL GO OUT AND SEQUENCING WILL START OVER. REMEMBER THAT DUE TO THE LIMITED "ON" TIME OF THE VEHICLE'S SIGNAL LIGHT FLASHER YOU CAN NOT SLOW THE SEQUENCING EFFECT DOWN TOO MUCH - YOU ARE LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT OF "ON" TIME THE SIGNAL LIGHT FLASHER WILL ALLOW. TUNING IS PROVIDED FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF COMPENSATING FOR MINOR DIFFERENCES IN VEHICLE TURN SIGNAL FLASH RATES OR MODIFIED TURN SIGNAL FLASHERS AND SHOULD ONLY BE PERFORMED IF THE SEQUENCING EFFECT IS NOT HAPPENING PROPERLY. IF YOUR SIGNAL LIGHTS ARE SEQUENCING IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED THAT YOU ADJUST THE SEQUENCING MODULE! IF YOU MUST ADJUST YOUR MODULE, DO NOT USE THE WEBSITE PROCEDURE THAT PROCEDURE IS FOR THE OLD-STYLE SEQUENCERS. FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS INSTEAD. NOTICE: THE INNERMOST LIGHT IS NOT ADJUSTABLE. THIS LIGHT IS DIRECTLY CONNECTED TO THE VEHICLE. IF YOUR INNERMOST LIGHT IS NOT WORKING DO NOT TRY TO ADJUST THE SEQUENCER AS THE PROBLEM IS ELSEWHERE. REFER TO TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE ON PREVIOUS PAGES DO NOT OVERTURN THE TRIMMERS. THEY ARE NOT DESIGNED TO BE CONTINUALLY ADJUSTED, THEY ARE DESIGNED TO BE SET ONCE AND FORGOTTEN. OVERTURNING THE TRIMMERS MAY DESTROY THEM AND IS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. DO NOT TURN THEM TOO FAR FOR THE SAME REASON. TUNING INSTRUCTIONS Tuning the module is fairly simple. With the engine running (engine must be running in order to obtain proper working voltage) turn on the left signal light. Observe the tail lights and adjust the left trimmer as necessary. Turning the trimmer screw counterclockwise will speed up the sequencer (if your outermost light is not coming on you want to speed up the sequencer), clockwise slows it down (if you modify your turn signal flasher you ll want to slow it down). You will have to turn the precision trimmer screw several times before you see a noticeable difference. Once you have the left side adjusted, turn on the right signal light. Adjust the right trimmer screw as necessary. Now turn on the hazard lights (four ways) and observe the tail lights. If they sequence at the same rate you re done. If there is a difference, pick the side that you like the effect most on and adjust the other side to match.
