1 Page EU DLX LED Tail-Light Kit Installation: First we will remove the old original flasher module. The original flasher module will be located on the driver side of the car near the fire wall as shown on the following picture. The installation procedure is as follows: 1) Remove the existing flasher module 2) Connect the new flasher wires red and greed to the Mustang s wiring previously removed. 3) Connect the black ground wire from the new LED flasher module to a good chassis grounding point. Simply unsnap the cylinder shaped module and remove the push on connectors.these will be attached with a green wire and a orange/yellow wire. The LED flasher module has three color coded wire leads. Red, Green, and Black. Once you remove the old module install the new LED flasher module by simply plugging in the red wire to the Mustang s yellow-orange wire and the green wire to the Mustang s blue ( may be green on some cars ) wire. You now have only to attach the black wire to a convenient chassis ground point. A likely place to connect the black ground wire will be under a mounting screw on the dash or on any metal part screwed under the dash. Just make sure that there is a good electrical connection between the black wire and the cars chassis. GREEN RED Be sure and wrap each connector in electrical tape before final installation of the flasher module.

Just make sure that there is a good electrical connection between the black wire and the cars chassis. MODULE INSTALLATION Now install the LED taillight modules. Each module is clearly marked R for right and L for left. Be careful to install only the Left module in the Left taillight and the Right module in the right taillight. Otherwise the sequence direction will not be correct though no harm would come to the modules themselves. You will follow the procedure below for installing each LED taillight module. 1) Unscrew the small #4 screw which holds the LED board assembly onto the 1157 lamp base. The base will now be free from the board for insertion into the socket. 2) Insert the base into the existing Mustang lamp socket. Carefully align the socket pins with the slot. NOTE that the pins are offset and can only go in one way! 3) Gently push the LED taillight module into the socket making sure that the alignment pins and the socket slots are properly aligned. 4) Now push in on the base and rotate to the right to lock in the base. which protrude from the housing about 1 inch use the shorter spacer. If the original lamp sockets have been replaced use the longer spacer. 6) Slip the spacer over the supplied 1 inch screw. Which has been passed through the board just as originally supplied. 7) Re-secure the board onto the base by screwing the screw into the tapped portion of the base standoff. Be sure and align the LED module to be straight. Also be sure and check for shorts between the board and the lamp housing. 5 A. Remove lens, frame, and incandescent bulb. B. Verify that the ignition is off and that the cars lights are OFF too 5) Pick one of the attached spacers depending on the socket you have in your car. If your car has the original Ford sockets 6

3 Page 3 Connecting Braking Sensor Wire ORANGE/BLUE RED Driving Lights BLACK From LED Module GREEN/ORANGE Step 1: You must attach a wire tap connector to the ORANGE/ BLUE wire connected to the lamp socket boot connector on one side of the car as shown above. You must also attach a wire tap connector to the GREEN/ORANGE wire connected to the lamp socket boot connector on the other side of the car. Step 2: Connect the Brake Sensor wire from each module by drilling a hole in each housing and routing the sensor wire so that it can plug into the corresponding sire tap connector on the opposite side of the car. Alternate wire routing ORANGE/BLUE Alternately to avoid drilling a hole in the lamp housing the Brake sensor wire from each LED module can be routed through the housing opening in the taillight panel. Be sure and add insulating tape around the edges of the housing opening to prevent the Brake sensor wire from being cut. BLACK From LED Module GREEN/ORANGE

4 Page 4 Installing the Taillights Critical! you must remove the harness boot from the taillight housing before installing your Mustang Project LED sequential taillights. Always remove the connector boot on cars equipped with this type of connector BEFORE inserting the taillight module. It is also a good idea to apply bulb grease on the boot and connector before reinstalling the boot. The socket must move in and out. Old or corroded sockets don t move properly which can cause connection problems with the taillight modules. Bulb grease or a lubricant like PB Blaster may be require to ensure free movement of the socket before taillight module installation.

5 Page 5 Trouble Shooting Guide: Remember... you are dealing with electrical components that are over 40 years old! Our NEW improved design works as follows: With brake applied and no turn signal active. Two inner sections light full bright red. With driving lights ON and no turn signal active. Two inner sections light to half bright red. With driving lights OFF and turn signal ON. Outer amber section blinks on/off for turn signal indicaiton. With driving lights ON and turn signal ON. Outer amber section blinks ON/OFF. Two inner sections stay lit to half bright red. With brake applied and turn signal ON. Two inner sections are steady bright red the outer amber section blinks. Note: A slight blip of the red lights will be seen when the driving lights are on and the turn signal is active. This is normal operation. Most Taillight problems are due to faulty wiring or bad socket connections. Remember unless you have replaced the wiring or taillight sockets in your Mustang you are dealing with electrical components that are over 40 years old! Corrosion and rust can take their toll. If you have any troubles first re-install the standard incandescent lamps and ensure that the signals, brake, and light functions work properly. If you see any problem with the brake or signal light functionality using the incandescent lights your system will not work with the new Mustang Project LED taillight modules. Carefully check for bad or rusted sockets. If you see evidence of corrosion carefully clean the contacts and re-test. Old wiring can also be a source of problems. Look for broken or frayed insulation if you see intermittent functionality. Below is a list of trouble shooting keys: Problem: Lights flicker. Flickering lights are often caused by failing alternators or bad regulators. The alternator may still function well enough to marginally charge the battery but diode failure in the alternator can cause flickering taillights. It is also possible that the regulator is failing. The original Mustang electromechanical regulators are famous for unusually failures. Always replace your regulator with a Motorcraft direct replacement regulator available at most auto parts stores. If you suspect a regulator or alternator problem you need to replace these items before you car is stranded! Doing so will also prevent flickering of the LED taillights. Problem: Taillights don t sequence but do light if headlights are on. Most likely this is due to a bad socket. It can also be caused by incorrect installation of the Mustang Project flasher module or improper connection of the flasher module ground. Carefully clean the socket and use a mild sandpaper on the Taillight Module contacts to clean off any debris left by a dirty socket. Problem: Taillights sequence but taillights do not illuminate when headlamps are on. Most likely this is due to a bad socket. Carefully clean the socket and use a mild sandpaper on the Taillight Module contacts to clean off any debris left by a dirty socket. Problem: Taillights function abnormally in the rain. This is probably caused by water in the Taillight bucket. Check for evidence of water and repair any gasket leaks. The Mustang Project Taillight modules are coated to protect against water damage but they will not operate if too much water is allowed to cling to the circuit boards. Problem: Taillights don t fit properly into sockets. Review the socket section at the beginning of this instruction sheet for adjustment with misaligned sockets. Be careful to always ensure that you have removed the boot connector in the back of the light housing BEFORE inserting the taillight modules. Failure to do so can cause any or all of the above symptoms!
