Reaction njection olding Reaction injection molding is similar to injection molding, except that a reaction occurs within the mold. The process uses thermoset polymers (polyurethane) instead of thermoplastic polymers used in standard injection molding. Before injection of the polymer, two components are mixed which react in the mold to form a solid thermoset polymer. The result a very strong, lightweight and durable material. By fusing polyurethane directly to the lighting surface, a continuous high-performance bond is generated that eliminates the need for a gasket, creating a seal that will not fail due to improper installation, weathering or lack of compression. Traditional skylights use metal parts, which are susceptible to deterioration over a short period of time. Plus, traditional skylights are painted, which leads to fading and cracking. Traditional skylights have many components and are complicated to assemble resulting in high reject/return rates. Screws hold the assembly together as compared to a one-piece, seamless frame of VTECH Skylights. n addition, traditional skylights utilize silicon sealants which dry out and crack over time. VTECH s superior method of encapsulation requires no gaskets and will not leak, whereas traditional skylights utilize a gasket that seals the glass or acrylic to the frame. This gasket can fail over time resulting in leaks and costly repairs. The difference is clear.
