Conclusions have been drawn from the information obtained, and are not intended to be construed as the actual practices of such competitors, as individual trucks may have slight variations in performance. 5 Average Acceleration when you combine loaded and unloaded acceleration, Jungheinrich has the best average acceleration time nearly 10% faster than Hyster/Yale. Taking a shorter time to cover distances means more productivity throughout the day.

It is important to note that only the EJE is AC controlled. All the DC competitor trucks will see significant decreases in performance as the battery discharges, unlike the EJE, which will maintain the same speed throughout discharge.

8 Amp Draw One of the key indicators of the efficiency of an electric pallet truck is its consumption of the electricity within its battery. To measure this efficiency, we must determine the amount of current (in amps) it draws from the battery during the primary functions of traveling and lifting.

11 Amp Draw Lift For lifting, Jungheinrich draws the least amount of current when lifting a load of 4000 lbs. The EJE draws nearly 27% less current than the Toyota/Raymond truck that translates to 27% greater lift efficiency. 12 Amp Draw Conclusion Where does the energy go in the competitive trucks? HEAT! Heat is the killer of electrical and electronic components and should be avoided. The EJE s greater efficiency means there will be less heat generated so the components will last longer and perform better over time.

13 Amp Draw Conclusion By analyzing the data for travel and lift current draw, we see the EJE has the following advantages over the competition: Vs. Toyota/Raymond The Toyota/Raymond is slightly more efficient than Jungheinrich during travel BUT at over a ½ mph slower speed. During lifting, Jungheinrich is 30% more efficient than Toyota/Raymond. Vs. Crown Jungheinrich is consistently better than Crown; 24.1% more efficient when traveling and 19.8% more efficient when lifting. Vs. Hyster/Yale Jungheinrich exceeds the efficiency of Hyster/Yale by 20% during travel and 5.1% during lift. Remember: Amp Draw testing was performed with a fully charged battery the very condition at which trucks with DC motors are supposed to be most efficient! As you can see the EJE is not only more efficient, it outperforms the competition in top speed as well. The EJE simply does more with less!

14 The Ultimate Test! We have seen that the EJE provides: Greater acceleration Greater travel speed Draws less current from the battery for lift and travel Therefore The EJE must be able to run longer, and achieve more productive cycles than its competitors. Let s put it to the test!

15 Total Cycles A standard VDI course was used to test total number of cycles. Each test was run using the same 4x-6V, 160 Ah, 24V battery/charger pack. Each test began with a fully charged battery voltage of approximately 25.5V and ended at approximately 24V. The VDI Cycle is representative of an average working cycle for a walkie pallet truck. Alternating between a full and empty load for each cycle, the operator begins by raising the load/forks and traveling a distance of 98.4 (30 meters), lowering the load/forks at a drop off point, raising the load/forks and returning to the original starting position to complete a full cycle.

And it is 15% more productive per hour than the Hyster/Yale.

18 Productivity Pallets moved per sample battery discharge For the given battery discharge test that was carried out, the Jungheinrich moved 20% more pallets than the Toyota/Raymond! 34% more pallets than the Crown! 26% more pallets than the Hyster/Yale! Note regarding battery discharge: In order for the competitor trucks to complete the same number of cycles, they would need to replace the battery or allow the battery to discharge to a lower state of charge (resulting in accelerated battery failure). This could explain why many users of competitive pallet trucks experience battery failure after a short period of time (1 year).

19 Performance Test Conclusions Jungheinrich The EJE 120 completed the highest number of cycles and had the longest run time, making it the most efficient truck. It also had the highest average acceleration time, and the highest loaded and unloaded travel speeds. Toyota/Raymond Although it had a faster acceleration time while loaded, the Toyota/Raymond truck completed 17% fewer cycles than the EJE 120. It also had the third highest travel speed not very impressive! Crown The Crown truck had the second highest travel speed and average acceleration time, but it completed the fewest number of cycles. It was nearly 44% less efficient than the EJE. Hyster/Yale Efficiency and performance are both lacking with the Hyster/Yale truck it used almost 25% more Ah per test cycle than the EJE. It also suffered from the slowest average acceleration time and the lowest travel speed.

When comparing standard 4500 lb. capacity trucks, the EJE s medium battery compartment is exactly the same length as the Crown truck and marginally longer than the Toyota/Raymond. 26 Turning Radius Although the Hyster/Yale wins the overall turning radius challenge by a mere 0.7 inches, it does so with a 4000 lb. capacity. 28 Maneuverability Test Conclusions Jungheinrich The EJE 120 has the shortest head length of all trucks tested and the best available turning radius of all 4500 lb. capacity trucks. The ability to operate with the handle in the vertical position ensures steering effort is minimal and the operator has greater control. Toyota/Raymond The Toyota/Raymond has the ability to operate with the handle in a nearly vertical position, but not against the mechanical stop. It requires more steering effort than the EJE 120. It has the third longest head length and also the third best turning radius of all trucks tested. Crown The Crown truck has the widest turning radius and the longest head length of all the trucks. It cannot operate with the handle against the mechanical stop, and it requires the highest steering effort of all trucks. Hyster/Yale The 4000 lb. capacity Hyster/Yale truck has the second shortest head length, but the best turning radius of all trucks tested. It can be operated with the handle in the vertical position using a crawl speed button, but it requires the third highest steering effort.

34 Direction Reversal Button Both Jungheinrich and Toyota/Raymond include a Direction Reversal Button. The Jungheinrich EJE 120 features a smart button, designed to operate only if pressed when the truck is moving toward the operator. The smart design avoids inadvertent travel that could result in possible damage or injury. The Toyota/Raymond design activates any time the button is pressed and the handle is in the operating position. Even when stopped, if inadvertent contact occurs, the Toyota/Raymond truck will move.

35 Direction Reversal Button Like the Toyota/Raymond truck, both the Crown and Hyster/Yale direction reversal buttons initiate travel any time the button is pressed and the handle is in the operating position. Even when stopped, if inadvertent contact occurs, both trucks will move. Crown is the only truck that will move if the button is kept depressed or in case of malfunction, sticks when the handle is upright and then lowered into the operating position.

36 Handle Test Conclusions Jungheinrich The EJE 120 handle has moderate resistance. The length and low mounted position reduce steering effort and maximize the distance between the operator and the truck. Only the EJE has the Smart direction reversal button to prevent inadvertent travel. Toyota/Raymond The Toyota/Raymond requires the highest hold down force. The short handle, mounted high on the truck, increases steering effort and minimizes the distance between the operator and truck. The direction reversal button can cause inadvertent travel if pressed while the truck is stopped. Crown The Crown handle has little hold down resistance, but the short length and high mounted position increase steering effort and reduce the distance between the operator and truck. The direction reversal button functions even when the truck is not in motion, and the Crown is the only truck that will move if the direction reversal button remains pressed and the handle is then lowered to the normal operating position. Hyster/Yale Hyster/Yale has a low mounted handle with little hold down resistance but higher steering effort than the EJE. Distance between the operator and truck is maximized. However, the direction reversal button can cause inadvertent travel, leading to possible damage or injury.

42 Serviceability Conclusions Jungheinrich Jungheinrich offers easy access to all components behind its single piece cover. It is the only AC drive model of those tested and its maintenance-free motor is designed for long service life. Service intervals are every 1000 hours! Toyota/Raymond The Toyota/Raymond two piece cover offers single level access to most components. However, the drive motor requires removal of the entire drive unit for servicing. Brush inspection and replacement are required for the DC motor, and service intervals are scheduled every 250 hours. Crown Crown has a DC drive motor and hydraulic pump that require brush and spring inspection and replacement. Access to components is difficult due to its crowded design. Because of the steel cover, bending and denting can occur. Service hours over 200 hours are not promoted. Hyster/Yale Hyster/Yale s DC motor requires frequent brush and spring inspection and replacement. To service the brake, the entire drive motor must be removed. If service intervals are greater than 200 hours, Yale does not promote it.

44 Stability Bars Jungheinrich Toyota/Raymond Jungheinrich uses a steel stability bar for long life and excellent performance. Toyota/Raymond uses a plastic stability pad that is easily worn out or ripped off, limiting its effectiveness.

45 Stability Bars Crown Hyster/Yale Crown uses a steel stability bar for long life. Hyster/Yale does not have a stability bar as standard, but they are available as an option. This, combined with the truck s light weight, causes the truck to be particularly unstable.

46 Forks Jungheinrich EJE 120 The EJE is the only truck in this group that uses solid steel side-rails on the forks. Side-rails are 11/16 thick! This leads to extreme strength and durability. The pallet entry slide is made of 3/16 thick steel to maintain its shape for consistent pallet entry over time. In the event of damage, it is easily replaced due to its bolt-on design. Forks also feature a beveled tip and are rounded to aid pallet entry from any angle.

47 Forks Toyota 7HBW23 / Raymond 102XM The Toyota/Raymond truck uses thin, bent and formed plate steel for the forks. This creates high stress areas at the bends and cracking can occur over time. The thin steel can be quickly worn through as the forks are dragged across dock plates or ramp peaks, causing costly repairs. The pallet entry slide is made from thin steel and is susceptible to bending, which will cause pallet entry problems over time.

48 Forks Crown WP2300 The Crown truck uses thin, bent and formed plate steel for the forks. This creates high stress areas at the bends and cracking can occur over time. The thin steel can be quickly worn through as the forks are dragged across dock plates or ramp peaks, requiring costly repairs. The pallet entry slide is the same, a thin fork steel bent into shape. When damaged, replacement is not possible and will cause pallet entry problems over time.

50 Regenerative Braking Standard Regenerative Braking recovers energy through plugging only. Advanced Regenerative Braking recovers energy through plugging, when the drive control is returned to neutral (coasting) and when the handle is released (braking). Only the Jungheinrich EJE 120 has advanced regenerative braking, contributing to the truck s overall energy efficiency and longer battery shift life.

51 Design Conclusions Jungheinrich The EJE 120 fork design uses solid bar stock steel for extreme strength and durability. The fork steel is 11/16 thick. The truck is the only model featuring advanced regenerative braking for superior energy reclamation. Stability bars are standard and linked casters are optional. Toyota/Raymond The fork design is bent and formed and is only slightly thicker than that of Hyster/Yale. This truck offers only standard regenerative braking. The pallet entry slide is thin, easily damaged and cannot be repaired. Plastic stability bars may quickly wear out. Independent casters are optional. Crown The Crown truck has standard steel stability casters. The forks are made of thin, bent and formed plate steel which can crack and bend. It does not have advanced regenerative braking. Steel stability bars are standard and casters are optional. Hyster/Yale The Hyster/Yale truck has the thinnest fork design and only standard regenerative braking for energy recovery. The pallet entry slide cannot be repaired when damaged. The truck does not come with standard stability bars.
