1 Hudson Fire Protection District 2015 Report

2 2015 Summary - In January the district hired seven (7) new career firefighters, bringing the daily staffing level to four (4). In the fall another four (4) career firefighters were hired bringing the daily staffing level to five (5). By January 1, 2016, we have hired an additional three (3) firefighters to bring the daily staffing to six (6) career firefighters on duty 24 hours a day seven (7) days a week. The district has increased the career staff 3 times over the past 1½ years (from 6 full-time paid firefighters to 18 paid full-time). - Sleeping quarters were constructed at Station 1 in Hudson. The department is now able to keep a crew at Station 1 in Hudson and another crew at Station 3 in Lochbuie, providing 24/7 coverage to both towns. This enables us to respond more quickly to emergencies in all areas of the district. - Engine 2801 was purchased to replace Engine 2811 as the Station 1 engine remains in service as a reserve engine, to be put into service at either station when the front line engine requires maintenance. The district was able to save money by buying a prebuilt demo model. The new apparatus has increased reliability and reduced maintenance costs. - A proposal was placed on the November ballot to increase the mill levy that funds the fire department from to 7 mills. The measure failed. The community has grown, the department has increased its full-time paid staff, bettered its facilities, filled the valuable Training Officer position, improved some of the apparatus and equipment, and provided far better district coverage. These additions all require a budget increase to sustain them and keep the district moving in the right direction. The district has seen a significant decrease in our volunteer firefighting force. Currently the district has three (3) volunteer firefighters that live in district. All other volunteers (11) live outside the district and staff as additional personnel on the career companies. - Lieutenant Dave Hudson was promoted to the position of Training Captain. Captain Hudson brings over two decades of firefighter experience to the position. Steve Hoekstra, Justin Hindman, Terry Hall, and Rob Hamlin were promoted to the position of Lieutenant. This provides an officer for each shift s crew at both station.

3 District Demographics The Hudson Fire Protection District serves the towns of Hudson and Lochbuie and the surrounding rural area, encompassing 94 square miles, with an estimated resident population of 10,000.
