Description of the device The CBM Group towing and lifting coupling system, which is the subject of this test report, offers a wide range of possibilities for coupling machinery to tractors of up to a 63 kw power rating. This is thanks to a series of components that are specifically designed and interchangeable, according to requirements. In the case of the towing coupling, the system is fitted with two basic configurations, which can be alternated. In the first the connection is made via an attachment frame to the body of the tractor fitted with vertical sliding guides (Fig. ). The guides are fitted, on the interior, with holes set up to enable the insertion and/or the height adjustment, in seven positions, of the various coupling devices available; a mobile protective casing, fitted above, completes the frame trim. The towing devices that can be installed are essentially made up of the towing hook and of the oscillating bar. This configuration is also designed for an attachment called a «piton fix», whose main feature is to support heavy vertical loads (> 3000 kg). The second configuration, designed for the towing coupling, is set up by removing the attachment frame with vertical guides and the articulation plate of the lower arms and installing the support frame of the automatic coupling device (Fig. ). This device, called pickup hitch, is basically made up of a towing hook fitted onto a front articulated plate which can be unhooked via a manually operated lift rod positioned near the tractor seat designed to facilitate attaching the trailer; the blocking/unblocking of the plate is operated by the intervention of the lift arms, by means of rods, connected to two lift rods. Finally, in the case of the lifting coupling, the three point attachment, category -N, is fitted as standard, with quick release hooks and lift rods, both adjustable by means of handles. 3/8

The towing bar (Fig. 6), is connected to the attachment frame before inserting a further support into the vertical guides, usually located in the lower part of the tractor body and locked by means of two lateral fixing pins. In all cases, they are adjusted vertically by means of a manually operated control lever that acts on the lateral pins, which lock the hook into position at the desired height. Lifting coupling This device is based on a three point attachment of category ISO -N and of a hydrostatic lifting device briefly described in Tab.. The towing bar can be extracted, leaving the connection support inserted in the vertical sliding guides that also constitutes a particular type of towing coupling, known as a «piton fix», conforming to the draft international standard ISO 6489/4. Identification data of the lifting device Measurements conducted The CBM Group coupling, towing and lifting system has been submitted to dimensional and structural tests with the collaboration of the Istituto Sperimentale per la Meccanizzazione Agricola of Treviglio (BG). The inspection was carried out on the load bearing coupling device using a standard test frame conforming to category of the international standard ISO 730-:994. The tests dealt with the articulation of the mechanical components of the system, 5/8
6 whereas dynamic lifting tests were not carried out. The analysis was carried out by fitting the coupling system onto an axle fitted with wheels complete with tyres of the following dimensions: 480/70 R 30. A radius index of 695 mm was calculated for these wheels (ISO 45-:99) that enabled the axle height to be established relative to the ground surface level. The lifting arms were subsequently operated by means of an auxiliary hydraulic device. The resulting measurements are shown in Tab.. Tab.
