This type of lift will prevent the truck from sliding since the U-bolts prevent the fork from moving along the axle.. The fork opening is 2.5 which fits the typical light to medium size truck axles. Four different positions for the fork lock pin ensure a snug fit. The fork hinging feature permits alignment with the spring during lift. The spring hangers are always located up front or close to the bumper. This will decrease the load on the tow truck s axle, i.e. the closer you can pull in the towed vehicle the less weight on your rear axles. Always secure the towed vehicle with safety chains on both sides before towing. Make sure the chains are damage free and have the correct grade and size. 10 Half Round Fork - used mostly to lift trucks with tailgates and construction trucks where big cross tubes are part of the body. The chain forks are milled from one high tensile steel bar and accept 1/2 to 5/8 chain. The axle housing is one of the more popular places, however forks must be wide and tall enough. Some trucks such as Peterbilt have unequal width housings.
