3 Pre-Assembly 1 Reinstall the four kips that engage with the Tilt and Pan Locks. These kips have been removed for travel in the Case. Remove these four kips when packing the Axis Jib for travel. 2 The two kips for the 100mm Bowl have also been removed for travel. Reinstall these Kips (with Brass Washers) once the 100mm Bowl is in position and aligned.

4 Basic Assembly 1 Level the 100mm Bowl that serves as the base for the Axis Jib. A Cinema Tripod, Dolly or Atlas 200 Camera Slider will provide a suitable base. Ensure that the base is completely stable prior to mounting the Axis Jib. 2 Position the Arm Section and Pedestal of the Axis Jib into the 100mm Bowl base. Attach the Tie Down. TOP VIEW Use the Bubble Level to ensure that the Axis Jib is leveled at the base before completely tightening the Tie Down.

5 3 With the Arm Section solidly supported on an apple box, chair or table, attach the Rear Section of the Jib. The Rear Section must be completely aligned with the Arm Section. Shoulder Screws must be backed out (not completely removed) in order to engage with the Pedestal. Locate the Brass Screw that identifies the TOP Align the four Shoulder Screws in the Rear Section with four mating slots in Pedestal. Slide the Rear Section into position and turn clock-wise to secure.

6 4 Initially finger tighten all Shoulder Screws, followed by mechanical tightening with the 5/32 Allen Key. Do not overtighten. TOP VIEW Store 5/32 Allen Key in Magnetic Receptacle 5 Slide Weight Support Bar through end of the Rear Section. Tighten Kip to secure.

7 Adding Camera & Counterweight 1 Place Camera Rig (Camera and Video Head) into 100 mm Bowl. Secure with your camera tie-down. TOP VIEW Use the bubble level on your video head to check for level. 2 Add Counterweights (not supplied) in order to balance the Jib. The Jib has been engineered to have a weight to counterweight balance ratio of 2:1 ie. for a Camera Rig that weighs 15 pounds, add 30 pounds of counterweight. 3 Secure weights with the Weight Clips

8 Adding the Trim Weight Tighten the button head screws with the 5/32 Allen Key. The Trim Weight should be snug and stay in position, however, do not overtighten the screws. Ideally the Trim Weight will still easily slide along the Jib tube. This one-time setup will prevent the requirement for repeated loosening and re-tightening of the screws for each desired adjustment. Adjusting the Trim Weight Once the Camera Rig has been properly counterweighted, simply slide the Trim Weight along the Rear Section to fine-tune the balance.

9 It is critical that the sequence listed below is followed during the setup, operation and tear down of the Axis Jib. Failure to do so could cause the Jib to lose balance and fall over, resulting in potential damage and injury. Set-Up Sequence 1. Ensure Base (Tripod, Dolly or Slider) is completely stable and level. 2. Build Axis Jib on base. Attach Pedestal and Arm Section to base using the 100mm Ball and Tie-Down. Attach Rear Section of Jib using four Shoulder Bolts. Tighten Bolts. Level Jib at base. 3. With the front end of the Jib completely supported, (via apple box or chair/ table, etc) load the Camera Rig into the 100mm Bowl of the Jib. 4. Add Counterweights. Adjust Trim Weight. Tear Down Sequence IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE Ensure Pan and Tilt locks are unlocked during Set-Up/Tear-Down 1 Ensure the Arm Section and Camera Rig are completely stable. 2 Remove the Counterweights. 3 Remove the Camera Rig. 4 Disassemble the Jib. WARNING: Never remove the camera from the Jib with the counterweights attached. The Jib will become an extreme tip hazard, which may result in injury or damage.

10 Orienting the Bowl The 100mm Bowl may be removed and reoriented to facilitate a wide range of camera positions. Remove the Kips and Brass Washers NOTICE: The weight capacity of the Axis Jib will be altered significantly by changing the orientation of the 100mm Bowl. When the 100mm Bowl is oriented in the standard horizontal position, the Axis Jib can safely support a 50 lb. load. In the 45o position, the load capacity is reduced to: 30 lbs. (maximum) (based on a 6 high video head) In the 90o position, the load capacity is reduced to: 20 lbs. (maximum) (based on a 6 high video head) In the inverted position, the Jib remains capable of supporting 50 lbs. (based on a 6 high video head) NOTICE: Regardless of the orientation of the 100mm Bowl, the maximum counterweight that may be loaded onto the Rear Section of the Jib is 100 pounds.

11 Load Capacity The weight capacities noted on the previous page are based on a video head height of 6 inches. The load (camera) becomes effectively heavier in relation to its distance from the pivot point. The graph below demonstrates the reduction in load capacity as it relates to increases in distance from the pivot point Jib Loading Maximum Allowable Load (lbs.) Centre of Gravity of Load In order to accurately calculate load capacity, measure the centre of gravity of the load (centre of Camera Rig) from the Front Pivot Point of the Jib and consult the graph above. Pivot Point Load Offset Distance (in) Hidden Mounting Points There are a number of threaded holes (both 3/8-16 and 1/4-20) located throughout the Axis Jib, which allow for accessory mounting - namely on the Front Forks of the Jib as well as the Pedestal. There are also several hidden threaded holes. These holes contain screws to prevent dirt and moisture from reaching the interior of the Jib, however, they may be removed if necessary.
