For additional information, refer to the appropriate procedures in this service information. A-Pillar Trim Panel Removal 1. Position the door opening weatherstrip aside. 2. NOTE: The LH and RH A-pillar trim panels are attached to the A-pillar with a safety tether. During a side air curtain deployment, the A-pillar trim panel tether helps prevent the trim panel from striking the occupant. The tether must be detached from the A-pillar trim panel before the A-pillar trim panel can be removed. Failure to detach the tether will result in damage to the tether or the A-pillar trim panel. Gently pull the upper A-pillar trim panel toward the center of the vehicle to release the A-pillar trim panel retaining clips.

Remove the A-pillar trim panel tether from the A-pillar trim panel. 1. Carefully route the A-pillar trim panel tether end through the hole in the A-pillar trim panel.

WARNING: A new A-pillar trim panel tether must be installed if the tether is damaged or does not fasten correctly. During a side air curtain deployment the A-pillar trim panel tether helps prevent the trim from striking the occupant. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious injury to vehicle occupant (s). Carefully route the A-pillar trim panel tether end through the hole in the A-pillar trim panel. 3. Install the A-pillar trim panel onto the A-pillar. 4. Install the door opening weatherstrip. B-Pillar Trim Panel Removal And Installation 1. Position the front seats in the full forward position.

Page 6 of 33 2. NOTE: Inspect the safety belt D-ring cover for damage. If the safety belt D-ring cover does not remain in place, install a new cover.

For additional information, refer to SCUFF PLATE TRIM PANEL - FRONT in this service information. 4. Remove the rear door scuff plate trim panel. For additional information, refer to SCUFF PLATE TRIM PANEL - REAR in this service information. 5. Remove the lower B-pillar trim panel by pulling straight out on the top of the lower B-pillar trim panel to release the 2 upper retainers. Slide the front and rear section of the lower B-pillar trim panel off of the retainers and lift the trim panel out of the vehicle. 6. Position the front and rear door weatherstrips aside. 7. Remove the upper B-pillar trim panel assist handle, if equipped. 1. Remove the bolt covers. 2. Remove the bolts.

Remove the screw. 1. To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in). 9. To install, reverse the removal procedure. C-Pillar Trim Panel Removal And Installation 1. NOTE: Inspect the safety belt D-ring cover for damage. If the safety belt D-ring cover does not remain in place, install a new cover. Remove the safety belt D-ring cover and remove the safety belt bolt. 1. To install, tighten to 54 Nm (40 lb-ft). 2. Remove the screw cover.

Pull outward and downward to remove the panel. 6. To install, reverse the removal procedure. D-Pillar Trim Panel 1. Remove the quarter trim panel. For additional information, refer to QUARTER TRIM PANEL in this service information. 2. Remove the D-pillar trim panel. 1. Disengage the trim panel from the retainers. 2. For additional information, refer to INTERIOR TRIM - EXPLODED VIEW in this service information. 4. Remove the rear storage compartments from the spare tire well. 5. NOTE: Inspect the safety belt lower anchor bolt cover for damage. If the safety belt lower anchor bolt cover does not remain in place, install a new cover. Remove the safety belt lower anchor bolt cover and remove the safety belt lower anchor bolt. 1. To install, tighten to 54 Nm (40 lb-ft). 6. If equipped, remove the cargo net hook. 1. To install, tighten to 3 Nm (27 lb-in). 7. NOTE: Make sure the pushpin retainers are removed with the quarter trim panel. Remove the RH or LH quarter trim panel. 1. 11 Page 11 of 33 Removal And Installation MKX Vehicles 1. Remove the front door switch panel. 1. Disconnect the electrical connectors. Edge Vehicles 2. Remove the front door inside handle bezel. All Vehicles 3. Remove the window control switch. For additional information, refer to GLASS, FRAMES AND MECHANISMS. 4. Remove the 2 front door trim panel bolts. 5. Remove the 3 front door trim panel screws. 6. Disengage the bottom of the door trim panel from the door. 1. Pull outward on the trim panel to disengage the push pins and retaining clip from the door. 7. Lift the top of the door trim panel edge upward and out of the belt line moulding. 8. Lift the door trim panel up and off of the lock rod. 9. Remove the front door trim panel. 1. Disconnect the electrical connectors. 2. Remove and discard the push pins. 10. 13 Page 13 of 33 Removal And Installation All Vehicles 1. Lift and remove the rear door trim pull handle cup screw cover. 2. Remove the rear door trim pull handle cup screw. 3. Remove the window control switch. 4. Remove the rear door trim pull handle cup screw. 5. Remove the 3 rear door trim panel screws. 6. Disengage the bottom of the door trim panel from the door. 1. Pull outward to disengage the push pins from the retainers. 7. Lift the top of the door trim panel edge upward and out of the belt line moulding. 8. Lift the door trim panel up and off of the lock rod. 9. Remove the rear door trim panel. 1. Disconnect the electrical connectors. 2. Remove and discard the push pins. MKX Vehicles 10. If required, remove the 8 screws and the applique. All Vehicles 11. NOTE: Install new push pins. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Position the Power Point Socket Remover so that it engages in the adjacent slot.

If equipped, disconnect the electrical connectors from the interior rear view mirror and compass. 9. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the wire harness on the LH A-pillar and remove the harness from the A-pillar.

For additional information, refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL AND CONSOLE. 11. Position the front and rear door weatherstrips aside. 12. Remove the LH and RH sun visors. 1. Remove the LH and RH sun visor screw covers. 2. Remove the LH and RH sun visor screws. 3. If equipped, disconnect the electrical connector. 13. Remove the LH and RH sun visor clips. 1. Remove the LH and RH sun visor clip screw covers. 2. Remove the LH and RH sun visor clip screws. 14. Remove the bolts and the assist handle. 15. Disconnect the headliner washer fluid hose connector on the RH A-pillar.

Installation Installing a new headliner 1. NOTE: The 3M Duramix 4747 Super Fast Adhesive is commercially available. This adhesive is a 2-part adhesive in a 50 ml dual-tube applicator. Depending on the size of the headliner and optional wire harness(es), purchasing of two to five 50 ml tubes is recommended. When installing a new headliner, transfer the wire harness in the following sequence: 1. Using suitable tape, mark the wire at the exit points for proper length from headliner-to-body/roof connectors. 2. Carefully remove the wire harness from the original headliner.

25 Page 25 of Using a suitable marking tool, mark the new headliner with the routing and exit points of the wire harness from the original headliner. 4. NOTE: Do not damage the wire harness when cutting the excess adhesive from the wire harness. Cut and remove any excess adhesive from the wire harness. 5. Position the wire harness onto the new headliner and make sure the wire harness has enough length to connect to the body/roof connectors using the tape indicator applied in Step 1. Apply tape to temporarily hold the wire harness in that position on the headliner. 6. NOTE: The 3M Duramix 4747 Super Fast Adhesive sets in 20 seconds. Continually make sure the wire harness is routed correctly when applying the adhesive. Apply the 3M Duramix 4747 Super Fast Adhesive in the same location as the factory installed adhesive along the full length of the wire harness to the headliner to avoid any NVH concern(s). 7. Transfer all necessary components. All headliners 2. NOTE: To avoid damaging the headliner, use an assistant for this step. Install the headliner through the liftgate opening. 3. Connect the electrical connectors on the LH D-pillar.

Install the LH and RH garment hangers and the LH and RH garment hanger screws. 1. Tighten the LH and RH garment hanger screws. 8. Install the assist handle and the assist handle bolts. 1. Tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in). 9. Connect the headliner washer fluid hose connector on the RH A-pillar.

For additional information, refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL AND CONSOLE. 14. Connect the electrical connectors on the LH A-pillar and attach the wire harness onto the A-pillar.

Scuff Plate Trim Panel - Front Removal

30 Page 30 of Lift the front door scuff plate trim panel straight up on the rear edge of the scuff plate trim panel to release the 2 lower retainers. Fig 23: Removing Front Door Scuff Plate Trim Panel 2. Disconnect the scuff plate electrical connector and then lift the scuff plate trim panel rearward. 3. NOTE: To avoid any damage to the scuff plate trim panel, remove any retaining clips from the body prior to installation. NOTE: The front door scuff plate trim panel retaining clips are a one-time use clip. Remove and discard the front door scuff plate trim panel retaining clips by releasing the retaining clip metal tabs.

32 Page 32 of 33 To install, reverse the removal procedure. 1. Install new retaining clips. Scuff Plate Trim Panel - Rear Removal 1. NOTE: To avoid damage to the scuff plate trim panel, remove any retaining clips from the body and attach them to the scuff plate trim panel before installation. Remove the rear door scuff plate trim panel by lifting on the rear inside lip of the scuff plate trim panel and lift the scuff plate trim panel enough to release the rear retaining clip from the body. Lift the front inside lip of the scuff plate trim panel and lift the scuff plate trim panel to release the front retaining clip. Remove the scuff plate trim panel. Fig 25: Removing Rear Door Scuff Plate Trim Panel 2. If any of the scuff plate trim panel retaining clips stay attached to the body, release the retaining clip from the body. Attach the retaining clip to the scuff plate trim panel before installation.
