4 Environmental & Accelerated Aging TEMPERATURE/ALTITUDE CHAMBER Combined Environment AGING CHAMBER CHART RECORDER Chambers Westpak s chambers can accommodate almost any request. Our chambers vary in size and capacity from 1 ft 3 to 500 ft 3. Temperatures can be set to range from 70 C to +200 C with 5% to 95% relative humidity. In addition, we have programmable altitude chambers capable of achieving altitude levels up to 100,000 feet (8 torr). Our thermal shock chamber has the capability of temperature extremes with a range of -65 C up to +200 C in 5 minutes with liquid nitrogen boost. Most chambers are programmable and are equipped with chart recorders for documentation. Rate of temperature change varies from chamber to chamber. All are calibrated, thermally mapped, and well maintained.

5 Environmental & Accelerated Aging Temperature Extremes Depending on the in-use or distribution environment, a product will see a variety of temperature extremes. A temperature profile is established to determine product sensitivity. Humidity Extremes Humidity can cause premature damage to products. Low humidity levels may dry out bonded or glued components while high humidity may cause corrosion. Altitude Altitude may be important due to reduced pressure. A product may show sensitivities to altitude which may affect performance. Margin Testing ALTITUDE CHAMBER AGING CHAMBER Margin Testing focuses on the ruggedness of the product beyond the required test specification. This can be applied to any of the above tests and can be used to collect additional data about a product. 6 Vibration The Purpose of Vibration Testing ELECTRO-DYNAMIC VIBRATION TEST SYSTEM TYPICAL VIBRATION TEST PROCEDURES INCLUDE: ELECTRO-HYDRAULIC VIBRATION TEST SYSTEM Electro-Dynamic Vibration Westpak currently operates seven electro dynamic vibration test systems with force levels from 100 to 10,000 lb. and frequencies from 2 Hz to 10 khz. All systems are fully computer controlled with sinusoidal, random, and classical shock capability. Mechanical Vibration Westpak currently operates three fixed displacement mechanical shakers used primarily for mechanical bounce testing (also known as loose load or repetitive shock testing) of package systems. Our largest table has a 1,500 lb. capacity. Electro-Hydraulic Vibration MECHANICAL SHAKER Westpak currently operates seven electro hydraulic shakers (six vertical machines, one horizontal) with capacities of 2 to 22 KIP. Table displacements of up to 6 in. peak to peak are available. Our largest table size is 1.5m by 2m, with capacities up to 10,000 lb. All systems are computer controlled for sinusoidal and random vibration inputs.

7 Tensile/Compression COMPRESSION TESTER Tensile Testing Westpak s wide range of testing capabilities allow accurate tensile analysis from several grams up through 4,535kg. Compression Testing Our load frames range in capability and function. Wesptak s load frame testers include dedicated package compression testers (2,267 kg capacity) and multi-function test equipment (4,535kg capacity). We even have free-load capability available for longer term compression tests (up to 13,607kg). Rest assured we can handle your needs. 8 Shock ROTARY SHOCK TEST MACHINE TYPICAL SHOCK TEST PROCEDURES INCLUDE: VERTICAL SHOCK TEST MACHINE Vertical Linear Shock Testing Westpak currently operates six programmable shock test machines with table sizes of 161cm 2 to 1.5m 2. Weight capacity to 454kg depending on the machine, acceleration levels to 100,000 G s, and velocity changes of 5 to 500 in/sec. Durations can range from 0.05 to 50 msec using half sine, square wave, and terminal peak sawtooth shock pulses. The Purpose of Shock Testing Rotary Shock Testing Westpak has the capability of producing rotary shock pulses on small test items up to 10 lb. at levels up to 40 kr/s 2 clockwise or counterclockwise with pulse durations of 1 to 10 msec.

9 Drop/Impact Drop Testing Westpak has seven machines available with capacities up to 500 lb. and drop heights of up to 72 in. These machines can accurately reproduce flat free-fall impacts on a wide variety of product and package systems. Impact surfaces are generally steel or concrete and other surfaces, such as hardwood, are available upon request. 10 Medical Package Testing The Purpose of Medical Package Testing PEEL STRENGTH BURST TEST CONTROLLER TYPICAL PACKAGE INTEGRITY TEST PROCEDURES INCLUDE: DYE PENETRATION Dye Penetration GROSS LEAK DETECTION BURST TESTER Dye Penetration allows the skilled test engineer to identify very small channels in the heat seals of a pouch or tray. Evidence of channels in the seals is considered a breach of the sterile integrity of the package system. Gross Leak Detection By inflating a pouch with an internal positive pressure and submerging the pouch underwater, fatigue and failures can be ascertained. Leaks in the heat seal, as well as abnormalities in the pouch material, often missed by the naked eye, can be identified using this method. Peel Testing Peel testing, also known as Seal Strength testing, measures the strength of seals within flexible barrier materials. This measurement can then be used to determine consistency within the seal, as well as evaluate the opening force of the package system.
