2 Introduction Thank you for purchasing the BTP Stainless Steel Oil Supply Line Upgrade. We regard your installation as a mutual project and will be pleased to offer help at any time. If any questions arise in the process of installation, please feel free to call BTP for assistance. The success of this installation will be determined by a variety of factors. These instructions should be adhered to unless reasonable cause for deviation exists. The vehicle must be in excellent condition and proper tune prior to starting the installation. Care and attention to detail by the installer are of extreme importance. The daily operator of the vehicle must become familiar with, and observe all operational guidelines. It is not necessary that the installer has any previous experience with forced induction. The mechanical skills required for a successful install are roughly equivalent to that needed to properly remove and replace the exhaust header and tailpipe. If one has no mechanical experience, it is strongly suggested that help be sought from a hobbyist or professional mechanic. Regardless of experience, the neatest, tidiest installation will prove the most trouble free and durable. Clean and inspect all components of this assembly. All components should be inventoried with respect to the packing lists. Shortages will not be honored in excess of twenty days after the shipping date. BTP is not responsible for fits relative to other aftermarket components. All left or right directional references will be from the driver viewpoint. For example, the turbo mounts on the left side. Tool and Equipment Requirements The following tools and equipment will be required to conveniently accomplish this install: General Metric Open/box Wrenches Floor Jack General Sae Open/box Wrenches Jack Stands X 4 Assorted Slot and Phillips Screw Drivers Permatex Thread Sealer Factory Shop Manual Clean Rags Wd-40 Spray, Pb Blaster, or Similar Preliminary A clean engine is pleasant to work on. If needed, wash both top side and bottom very thoroughly. The high pressure car wash does a good job. Wearing latex gloves, can help keep the installer as clean as a nice engine. Position the car on jack stands, high enough to work conveniently beneath the car. Copyright BTP 2017 Page -2-

3 Items to Remove Remove the existing oil supply line, if applicable. Remove the hose barb adapters for the oil supply line, if applicable. Oil Supply Line at Cylinder Block: The oil supply system is obviously the lifeblood of the turbo. While the layout and installation of the lines is quite easy, make every effort to keep the lines cool, free of contact and binds. Cleanliness is of reasonable importance. There are two plugs on the cylinder block in this area. You want to find the lower one, closest to the transmission. Remove the original plug. If it is not oily, recheck, as its probably the wrong one. Install the oil line adapter fitting, along with the copper sealing washer, into the cylinder block at the position shown. The oil line adapter fitting is a straight thread and the only one that will fit this connection. Refer to picture # 1. Attach the oil supply line to the fitting just installed at the block. The 90 o end of the oil line attaches at the block. Point the line straight forward and allow the line to hang loose for now. Refer to picture # 2. Note: These braid fluid lines do not like to be statically loaded with a twist in the line. It is necessary, when tightening the main coupler, to hold some anti-torque on the small hex next to the coupler. These small hex s are 3/8's. 2 nd Note: Often the braid doesn t want to remain where positioned prior to tightening the couplers. This can be countered by simply holding the line where you want it, with an additional wrench. Picture # 1 Picture # 2 Copyright BTP 2017 Page -3-

4 Bend the oil dipstick tube aft about ½" or so. Only enough to clear the 90 o oil supply line fitting. Push only on the tube as the plastic dip stick end can/will break easily. Picture # 2. Oil Inlet Fitting on the Turbo: Caution: Some debris is damaging, some is harmless. Oily smudges mean nothing. Aluminum shavings burn up in the combustion and are harmless. Anything reeking of iron or silicon (glass beads) is a killer and can ruin a cylinder in a heartbeat. ANYTHING hanging around the turbo oil inlet can prove harmful. Rather than trying to decide what s what... The oil inlet fitting ( ) will install opposite (180 o ) from the oil drain flange. Refer to picture # 3. DO NOT use sealant or you risk sealant getting into the turbo bearing and blocking oil flow. No sealant, no sealing washer, no nothing. Especially no Teflon tape! It will void the warranty on your turbo! Picture # 3 The oil supply line (p/n previously installed) from the engine block attaches to the oil inlet fitting on the turbo. Refer to picture # 4. 5 PLEASE REVIEW THE INSTALLATION AS ACCOMPLISHED THUS FAR. WHEN SATISFIED THAT ALL ITEMS ARE IN PROPER ORDER, PROCEED TO THE NEXT STEP. TESTING PROCEDURES Start the engine and check for oil leaks. Correct as required. Drive the car a few miles prior to applying boost. If all systems are operating normally, proceed with the testing. Generally use 3rd or 4th gears to keep events at a slower pace. Apply boost in small increments at a time such that no sudden changes occur. Do not be alarmed by acrid fumes coming from the turbo and manifold area. This is the heat burning oily hand prints off the hot surfaces. Drive about twenty miles and the fumes should be gone. Review the instructions and installation for any details overlooked and correct as required. General Rules of Operation Engine oil change interval for mineral base oils is 2500 miles. Synthetic base oils may extend the interval to 5000 miles. The synthetic oils are strongly recommended. Stainless lines will chaff thru anything they touch. Be sure they are not located next to any item to which it can do damage. It is the responsibility of the installer to review these general rules of operation with the owner/driver. Warranty Information All items made by BTP are warranted for workmanship and function for one year from the date of receipt. All other items are subject to manufacturer s warranty. If problems arise from using a BTP part in a manner other than intended, or a part is installed incorrectly, BTP reserves the right to refuse warranty coverage for damages. BTP will not warranty any kits, parts or items purchased thru an online auction that is not purchased from an authorized dealer. The customer must be able to provide proof of purchase for any warranty repairs. BTP reserves the right to inspect any item before any warranty will be granted. BTP will not reimburse for any labor charges on warranty items that occur without prior, written consent. BTP extends no warranty nor accepts liability to any original, stock, or replacement components on the vehicle. BTP does not pay any towing expenses. BTP cannot guarantee fitment of the downpipe with all aftermarket exhaust systems. Warranty may transfer. BTP must be notified within twenty days of sale to continue warranty coverage. 6 Terms of Sale All shortages from the parts list must be reported to BTP within 20 days of receipt. BTP does not pay any towing expenses. All returned items are subject to a 25% re-stocking fee. BTP accepts no liability for death or injury to any person or persons under any circumstance. The re-seller assumes all responsibility for the end user s knowledge of this warranty. Turbo Kits sold by BTP or by a BTP authorized distributor must be registered with BTP within twenty days of receipt by the end user. BTP does not guarantee that turbo kits will pass smog tests. For California residents, SOME (not all) BTP kits / systems have been provided a C.A.R.B. Executive Order Number. However, BTP does not guarantee that the end user s car will pass. Acceptance, re-sell, or use of any BTP part constitutes full agreement by the re-seller/end user, that the terms of sale and warranty are fully understood and accepted in full.
