1 Subject: TBB Syntec Seatbelts Models Affected: Specific Thomas Built Buses Saf-T-Liner C2 and Minotour Buses manufactured December 19, 2012, through May 17, General Information (DTNA), on behalf of its wholly owned subsidiary, Thomas Built Buses (TBB), initiating Field Service Campaign to modify the vehicles mentioned above. There are approximately 45 vehicles involved in this campaign. On certain vehicles, the U-clamp was mounted in the wrong location on the bottom of the seat The U-clamp will be moved to the correct location. Additional Repairs Dealers must complete all outstanding Recall and Field Service campaigns prior to the sale or delivery of a vehicle. A Dealer will be liable for any progressive damage that results from its failure to complete campaigns before sale or delivery of a vehicle. Owners may be liable for any progressive damage that results from failure to complete campaigns within a reasonable time after receiving notification. Work Instructions Please refer to the attached work instructions. Replacement Parts Replacement parts are now available and can be obtained by ordering from your facing Parts Distribution Center. If our records show your dealership has ordered any vehicles involved in campaign number SF493, a list of the customers and vehicle identification numbers will be available on AccessFreightliner.com. In the Primary Failed Part Number field, enter TBB There are no replacement parts required for this campaign. In the Labor field, enter the appropriate SRT(s) from the Labor Allowance Table. For OWL, the VMRS Component Code is and the Cause Code is A1 - Campaign. This field service campaign will terminate on January 31, IMPORTANT: OWL must be viewed prior to performing the field service to ensure the vehicle is involved and the campaign has not been previously completed. Contact the Warranty Campaigns Department at (336) , from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern time, Monday through Friday, via Web inquiry at AccessFreightliner.com / My Tickets and Submit an Inquiry, if you have any questions or need additional information. All claims must be submitted within 30 days of the repair and within 30 days of the termination date of the campaign. All excess inventory to be returned to the PDC following the conclusion of the campaign must be returned in resalable condition to the Memphis PDC within 90 days from the termination date. Please submit a PAR to request return to the Memphis PDC. (Canadian dealers should return the kits to their facing PDC.) Page 2

To arrange for repairs, you should contact your local Thomas Built Bus dealer. The repair should take less than half an hour and will be performed at no charge to you. To find a dealer in your area please go to This Field Service Campaign will terminate on January 31, Please make sure the campaign is completed prior to this date. Work completed after this date will be done at the customer s expense. As stated in the terms of your express limited warranty, Thomas Built Buses will not pay for any damage caused by failure to properly maintain your vehicle. Thomas Built Buses considers the work necessary under this campaign to be proper maintenance and will, therefore, not pay for any damage to your vehicle caused by your failure to have the repairs that are the subject of this campaign performed in a reasonable time. 4 Syntec Seatbelt U-Clamp Repair Work Instructions Subject: TBB Syntec Seatbelts Models Affected: Specific Thomas Built Buses Saf-T-Liner C2 and Minotour Buses manufactured December 19, 2012, through May 17, Chock the tires and confirm the ignition is in the Off position. 2. Locate the 36 seat; verify whether the U-clamp is in the correct location or not. This can be done by comparing to Figure 1. If the belt rests up against the bracket, it needs to be moved. Figure 1 3. If the bracket requires moving, the seat bottom needs to be removed. Remove the bolt through the U-clamp using a ½ socket. Retain the nut and bolt for reinstallation. 4. Pull the seat bottom up from where it meets the seat back. Push your hand down between the cushions and pull the bottom up. J-hooks are used to secure the front of the cushion where your knees would be if you were sitting. Slide the cushion toward the front of the bus to release the cushion. 5. Once the cushion is removed, turn it over. Using a 3/8 nut driver, remove the U-clamp from the bottom of the seat. Retain the screws for reinstallation. 6. Referencing Figure 2, reinstall the bracket using the self-tapping screws that you retained when removing the bracket. Make sure that the back edge is parallel to the back of the seat cushion. Page 4
5 Figure 2 7. After mounting bracket, check the mounting of the metal brackets that hold the seat belts in the middle of the seat. They should be mounted at a 45 degree angle as shown in Figure 3. Using a 5/8 socket or wrench, torque to 65 ft/lbs. Figure 3 Page 5
6 8. Once the seat belts have been adjusted and inspected to verify there are no problems with the webbing, you may begin reinstallation of the seat bottom. Using J-hooks, hook the seat base to the front of the frame as installed originally. Allow the rear of the seat to rest at back, making sure the U-clamp does not tear the material covering seat back. 9. Push down the rear of the seat so that the clamp is around the frame of the seat as it was before. 10. Verify there is no interference between the U-clamp and belts. 11. Reinstall the bolt through U-clamp. 12. Verify that the seat base is secure. 13. Remove wheel chocks. Tools 1/2 Socket wrench 3/8 Socket wrench or nut driver 5/8 Socket wrench Page 6
