2 Public Works Committee Meeting February 9, 4:00 p.m. ROLL CALL Councilmembers Josey Ferguson, Adam Roduner; Maintenance Supervisor Dave Reynolds, City Administrator Tim Snead and Secretary/Receptionist Jennifer Keenon. ITEM 1: Relocation of Bench and Bike Rack in Front of Pita Pit Maintenance Supervisor Dave Reynolds informed the committee that he received a request from Pita Pit to get rid of the bench and the bike rack that are in front of their business in order to put tables and chairs out in the spring. The tables will be removable so they can be taken in and out. Councilmember Adam Roduner questioned where they would be relocated to, to which Maintenance Supervisor Reynolds said they could possibly be moved to Rotary Park. Councilmembers Adam Roduner and Josey Ferguson approved. ITEM 2: Snow Removal Maintenance Supervisor Reynolds asked the committee for ideas on how to improve the snow plowing efforts in the City. He informed the committee that he had Russ updating the City s Facebook page to let the citizens know where the crew was plowing so cars could be moved off of the streets. He also called the KPQ radio station in the morning to help get the word out. He pointed out that the crew plows the Avenues and Emergency routes when there is 2-3 of snow fall but doesn t think it s cost effective to plow all of the streets when there is only 2 of snow. Councilmember Ferguson suggested plowing the slush on the streets when temperatures warm up. Maintenance Supervisor Reynolds said they had talked about removing the slush but pointed out that when it warms up it is typically late in the day so the crew won t be able to get it all done in the short amount of time. He pointed out that last year s budget included $55k for snow and ice, and $3k for fuel. He thinks he has already gone through the budgeted amounts for this year already. Councilmember Ferguson pointed out that storm drains will also need to be cleaned up. Councilmember Roduner and Ferguson agreed that when there is 3 of snow the plows should be out, slush should be removed when possible and they should make it a priority to clean off the storm drains.
