Twelve years ago Louisville native Bill Wade was concerned for the safety of his teenage daughter as she would soon be driving. How would she react to a sudden loss of car control? Would she panic if she had to brake and steer at the same time? He developed a system of teaching teens the skills to regain control of a car and avoid an accident without Few people realize driving is one of the most dangerous things they do. A car traveling at just four mph has more energy than a bullet. That s a lot of responsibility. National Program Director Bill Wade panic. Being an avid auto-crosser, Bill used some of the basic events of a solo at lower speed in a controlled environment. The resulting process became the Tirerack Street Survival School for teens which has grown to 100 schools across the nation. Jamey McDaniel, Armando Manzo, Brian Mason, David Melton and several other volunteers coached young first time drivers on the skills of car control in emergency situations. There were 70 students at this school, some had entered several times in at Sept./Oct Over 70 students traveled to the The Corvette Museum to learn skills to regain car control in an emergency situation. other locations, but where turned down because the schools were sold out. The driving exercises were the most memorable actions of the day for the students. Exercises are set up to best demonstrate tire limitations, brakes and weight transfer through a series of exercises such as slalom, 200 skid pad, quick lane change, decreasing radius turn, panic stop using ABS and turning while braking. Instructors enjoyed the time with each student and the satisfaction seeing great progress in the student s control of their car. The event went smooth and both students and their parents were appreciative of the effort from the Survival team. A street survival instructor explains the process of the next exercise to student drivers. Keeping control of a car on a wet skid pad is one of the many challenges facing the students.

Ted Woerner said We give drivers of all ages and ability levels memorable behind-the-wheel training and driving experiences. We also offer diving training for teens on car control and accident evasive action in the event of an accident. There are track time events on the Indianapolis Road course. Many of you may remember Stephan Greoire, who became the youngest rookie to qualify for the Indianapolis 500 in Very impressive for a Frenchman who did not speak English and had never driven on an oval.

Region SCCA Board Meeting July 31, 2013 Unique Automotive Regional Executive Jamey McDaniel called meeting to order at 6:36 p.m. The following were present: Rich Sinnock, Mike Spence, Bruce Domeck, Ron Riffle, Jamey McDaniel, Brian Mason, Dave Melton, Tony Morrow Secretary Mike Spence presented the June 26, 2013 minutes for review. Ron made a motion to accept the minutes as written, Bruce seconded. Motion was passed. Financial Report: Treasurer Rich Sinnock presented a financial report. Rich explained several items on the report. Mike made a motion to accept the report, Brian seconded. Julia Aebersold was unable to attend but forwarded a membership report. As of July 28,2013 we had 217 members. Old Business: Discussion of event # 6 and the non-injury accident. Accident report was submitted to all of the insurance and national club parties the Monday after the event. We were informed that we would be contacted if necessary. WHAS, John Archer, was at the event and we received a short news coverage. The Mini dealership was represented at the event. Handheld radios were brought up again for discussion we are beginning to be short the number of radios to run events. The board approved the purchase of four (4) radios. New Business: Aaron Peterson will not be completing his term on the board. Dave Melton was asked by Jamey if he would be interested in completing the term until the end of this year. Jamey made a motion to accept Dave Melton to complete Aaron s term, Bruce seconded. The motion was passed. Brian reviewed our involvement with the Holly LS fest September 6,7 and 8th in Bowling Green. Six KYSCCA volunteers will be needed to run the event. Brian is working out the details will send a copy of the contract when he has it to the board members. Event # 7 of August 11, 2013 may need to be moved from the fairgrounds location. In order to avoid any problems with the State Fair the Board decided to move the event to the UPS site. Laptop the clubs existing laptop is beginning to present problems. The hardware is outdated, memory cannot be added and downtimes are increasing. Bruce made a motion to allocate $800 to purchase a new laptop, Ron seconded. The motion will need membership approval. Election time is upon us. Jamey asked the board to come to the next meeting with suggestions for the positions that are opening. Announcements will made seeking members who are interested. The following positions are opening up: RE, Secretary, Treasurer, Membership Chair, Activites Director and three s. Year End Trophies Ron made a report on the trophies to consider. No decisions were made at this meeting. Concern was expressed that we did not have any port-o-potties at event # 6. It was pointed out that we moved the event site and our supplier may have delivered to the original site. The supplier will be contacted by Jamey. Open Discussion BMW Teen Driving in Bowling Green is looking for instructor help. Procedure for taking membership applications at events National Convention will be in North Carolina this year. Secretary Mike Spence presented the July 31, 2013 minutes for review. Bruce made a motion, Ron seconded to accept the minutes as presented. The minutes were accepted. Financial Report: Treasurer Rich Sinnock reported that Club is in good shape. Rich presented a report of the events to date. CD s are up for renewal, Rich will renew and stagger the mature dates. A motion was made by Mike and seconded by Ron to accept the report. Motion passed. Membership Report: A current report will be used to send out ballets the 15th of September. Old Business: Event # 7 and # 8 recap: averaged 80 cars each. Waiver station was not occupied part of the 9:00-11:00 time period. Discussed trying to do a better look at event overlaps with Central KY for next year. Year End Trophies: pricing at last board mtg was not correct. Ron went back to supplier and reworked. New total for year end trophies to be about $1,400. A motion was made by Mike to accept the presentation and the total trophy cost, Brian seconded. Motion passed. Race America Display: One of the displays has quit working. Jamey checked with local repair shops, they were unable to work on the display. Display was sent back to Race America, expected approximate costs are $118 shipping, $395 max for repair, $100 return shipping. Race America will contact Jamey concerning repairs. Nominations for 2014 offices and board members: accepted nominations RE Jamey McDaniel, Activities Director Brian Mason, Board members Tony Morrow, Dave Melton, Shawn Lambert, Karl Miller (added after meeting Nathan Steinke, Tim Thompson). Ballets to be mailed New Business: National Convention: Jamey discussed the national convention to be in North Carolina this year, would like to send two members. National Corvette Museum Track: Is Bowling Green still our area? Will track be SCCA approved? We need to contact Steve Harris for answers Move the meeting to : Many members will be out of town. Jamey will make announcements. LS Fest: Supplies will be needed. Travel and meals reimbursement. A motion was made by Bruce for $50 gas to and from event for worker driver and $20/day for meals for each worker, Mike seconded, passed. Rent a truck with insurance to pull the trailer. Eliminate the single car class: to be eliminated for the remaining two fun events including trophies. Trophies will be given at the final two fun events until the remaining trophies are used. Tarc Contact: Jamey has a new contact hopefully eliminating the problem of buses showing up at UPS events after they have been notified. New computer: Tony Morrow has purchased a new computer and case below the board and membership approved budget. Banquet: Russ Coleman volunteered to research several banquet sites and caterers. 7 Jamey McDaniel was starter at the 2013 Holley LS Fest Holley LS Fest Big Success Members of the Kentucky Region volunteered their expertise to the 2013 Holley LS Fest which is a qualifier event leading up to the Optima Ultimate Street Car Challenge. The magnificent seven helped run the autocross event, and thanks to their tremendous effort, over 900 runs were made over the three day event. The organizers were quite pleased with our organization and efficiency and would like to see us back next year. Hopefully we can double the members that participated next time because seven were not enough to run an event of this magnitude. Russ Coleman was a participant and came in 2nd in the autocross, against many Street car challenge veterans including Danny Popp. The cars where incredible tube frame muscle car cars especially designed for autocross, drag and track time events.
