3 producing safety devices. you! Enclosure standards Building a protective system in your production is simply a matter of mounting the modules together. The modules are designed for turnkey on site no special tools are needed. Just a few accessories are needed to create the protective system and one person can easily set up the system. The system is based upon FlexLink standard components. Combination opportunities The principle of the system is a pre-made frame, where different inserts can be chosen. The frames can be delivered in two different heights and three different widths. The inserts to choose between are: steel net, transparent plastic (smoke-coloured) or grey plastic. There are also two different types of doors, a sliding door and a hinged door, available with the three different inserts. Simplicity The panels are easily put in position by placing them into two holders on the supports. The support of the panels is carried out by a mm beam anchored by a foot to the fl oor (or as optional a fl exible foot). Accessories Safety switch kit, ball latch lock kit, handles and two holders are included in delivery. Brackets to mount the modules together are ordered individually; number and type depend on the design of the system. The enclosure system is made of FlexLink standard components from the XF (30 30 mm) and the XC (44 44 mm) system.

4 Modules Panel modules A module consists of an assembled frame with chosen insert. The panel modules consist of FlexLink standard XF components. The modules are available in two heights and three widths. Bracket kits to mount the modules are ordered separately, see Accessories Inserts Each module, panel and door, are available with one of these inserts: N = zinc plated steel net mm S = plastic panel, smoke-coloured, transparent, polycarbonate G = plastic panel, grey, polycarbonate. 5 Support modules Choose from two different types of supports. Use XCSB 2000/45 or XCSB 1600/45 together with bracket kit to create 45 or 135 bends. Assembly The enclosure system is based on FlexLink standard components. The modules are delivered preassembled to give the best conditions at site. The modules are complete when delivered.

There are three different module widths to choose from. This gives the possibility to achieve the total dimensions needed.

The enclosure system In order to give the best stability to the system before it is completed start at a corner if possible.

6 Assembly The enclosure system is based on FlexLink standard components. The modules are delivered preassembled to give the best conditions at site. The modules are complete when delivered. The supports are fully assembled. The system is designed to give a height of either 2000 mm or 1600 mm from the fl oor with a gap of 200 mm to the fl oor. There are three different module widths to choose from. This gives the possibility to achieve the total dimensions needed. There are only a few special components required to give the best possible savings on both engineering and assembly time in the projects. For detailed information see section Modules. The enclosure system In order to give the best stability to the system before it is completed start at a corner if possible. Assemble the corner section (in two parts) fl at on the fl oor, raise it up and place it in position, assemble the two sides of the corner together. Adjust the corner section and anchor it to the fl oor with one or two bolts, make sure it has the line. Assemble the rest by adding one module at the time. Another way to assemble the system is to place all the support modules fi rst and then place the frame and doormodules in between and lock them with a bracket kit at the top. The doors There are two different door designs to choose from in the system, the hinged door and the sliding door. The doors are pre-assembled and the needed assembly on site is to place the hinges on one side (right or left-hand side door design), assemble the door to the support and place the handle. The sliding door is principally the same thing as for the hinged door, you decide if the door will be left or righthanded. For dimensions see section Modules.

7 Safety aspects FlexLink enclosure standards with a variation of inserts offer you the necessary security around your machine or machine cells. Use the FlexLink enclosure system not only to avoid hazard movements but also to keep the dirt inside the guarding. As an extra benefi t the system also fulfi ls the EC-regulations. EC has taken the initiative to regulate the safety in and around a hazard area. Since the fi rst of January 1995 it is compulsory within the European Community to follow the regulations stated. When designing guarding around your machines or machine cells you should consider the following norms for protection against hazard movement in and around a machine, robot or similar hazard. EC-regulations, safety of machinery EN 292 Basic concepts, general principles for design. The EN 292 is divided in two parts: Part 1: Basic terminology, methodology Part 2: Technical principles and specifi cations. EN 292 contains the basic information about how to design a protective device, for example a protection must be designed in such a way that tools are needed to remove the guard. Doors must be blocked electrically to ensure that no movement inside the protected area can take place when a door is open. EN 294 Safety distance to prevent danger zones being reach by the upper limbs. The safety distance for upper limbs is depending on the height of the protection fence and also on which type of insert used. The net used as one of the possibilities from FlexLink has a square opening of less than 30x30 which demands a safety distance of 120 mm to the hazard. When it is possible to reach the dangerous area with a fi nger and the opening is a square of maximum 40x40 mm the safety distance is 200 mm. There are two choices of height, 2000 and 1600 mm leaving a gap to the fl oor of 200 mm. When it is possible to reach the dangerous area with an arm up to the junction with the shoulder, the safety distance is 850 mm. EN 811 Safety distance to prevent danger zones being reach by the lower limbs. The standard gap to the fl oor using our fence protective system is 200 mm; this gives a safety distance of minimum 665 mm. EN 1088 Interlocking devices associated with guards. Principals for design and selection. This standard defi nes basic concepts and general principals for the design of interlocking guarding with and without guard locking independent of which energy is used. It covers the parts of guards, which actuate the interlocking devices. The processing of signal from interlocking device to stop the machine is not taken into consideration. FlexLink does not supply the switch for the interlocking device, only the bracket which fi ts to Schmersal AZ 15/16-B1 and Guard master Trojan 5, which complies with the European regulation for interlocking function. Validity of regulation The regulation above is a summary and valid within the European Community, for countries outside EC other regulations are valid. Our recommendation is that you consult the local specialists to ensure that you are fulfi lling valid regulations.
