2 ISA Suzuki Voice Committee Decisions 2015 Accompaniment book for Volume One was internationally accepted February 5 th, The first Accompaniment book for the Volume One songs was made 1986, computer version early 1990s, new revision of accompaniments 2004 and corrections Volume One, Accompaniment book for Volume One, Piano accompaniment CD, Song CDs in English, in Spanish and in Finnish were sent to ISA CEO Gilda Barston March 6 th, Suzuki Voice Teacher Training Suzuki Voice Teacher Training continues 2015 with Suzuki Voice Teacher Trainers Mette Heikkinen, Finland (ESA), Analia Capponi-Savolainen, Argentina/Finland (ESA), Mary Hofer, USA (SAA), Dr. Päivi Kukkamäki, Finland (ESA, SAA) and Katrina Pezzimenti, Australia (PPSA, ESA). The Suzuki Voice Program Professional Development and Long Term Teacher Training Audition deadlines are every year 30th of January, March, May, August and October in ESA and PPSA. SAA Short-Term training courses (UNIT) audition deadlines are in May and in August. After acceptance participation to the Professional Development and Training will start by application to Suzuki Voice Teacher Trainers. It is possible to start the Training period any time of the year by application to Suzuki Voice Teacher Trainers. Teacher Trainers will travel also to other countries, if participants have been accepted into training. Between the special training courses, training will continue with the Suzuki Voice Teacher Trainers. The following Suzuki Voice Teachers have made ESA Suzuki Voice Teacher s exams during this year (Long Term Teacher Training). Congratulations! Level 4 / Intermediate Level Stage Two exam (140 hours): Eriko Shimada (Japan-England) in Finland October 2014 at Talent Education Institute of Singing. The first Suzuki Voice Teacher from Japan (TERI) who has made ESA Level 4 Suzuki Voice Teacher s exam. Training with Dr. Päivi Kukkamäki and Mette Heikkinen in Finland. Maura Donnelly O Halloran (USA), Lisa Murray (USA), Amelia Seyssel (USA), Marthé Miller (USA) participated in the Suzuki Voice Teacher & Student Workshop at Amelia Seyssel Suzuki Voice studio in Poughkeepsie, New York in USA November The Workshop with Dr. Päivi Kukkamäki concentrated on Teaching-in-Practice. The 12 th International Songs for Sharing Suzuki Voice Workshop was held in Mexico March- April Aldo Guerrero Moreno and his Suzuki Voice families hosted the event with the help of Analia Capponi-Savolainen and Dr Kukkamäki. As Dr Kukkamäki was not able to attend due to personal reasons, TT Katrina Pezzimenti (Australia) was leading the workshop. Five singers from Mexico were accepted into the Suzuki Voice Teacher Training and TT Analia Capponi-Savolainen gave the first Suzuki Voice Teacher Training course in Spanish. Fully accredited Suzuki Voice Teacher Amelia Seyssel (USA) taught students during the workshop. Penney Adeney (Australia) and TT Mary Hofer (USA) attended the workshop. 3

4 Maura Donnelly O Halloran (USA), Satu Kaarisola-Kulo (Finland), Leea Lahtela (Finland), Tiia Salminen (Finland) and Kari Weldon (USA) participated in the special training period at the Talent Education Institute of Singing in Vantaa, Finland July Long Term Teacher Training with Dr. Päivi Kukkamäki and Mette Heikkinen. Maura Donnelly O Halloran (USA), Jaume Fargas (Barcelona, Spain), Eriko Shimada (England- Japan), Mervi Sipola-Maliniemi (Finland) and Kari Weldon (USA) participated in the 12 th European Suzuki Convention Suzuki Teachers days with Dr Päivi Kukkamäki in Davos Switzerland July Suzuki Voice students came from Finland, Spain and USA. Dr. Päivi Kukkamäki and Mervi Sipola-Maliniemi taught during the convention. SAA Unit 1 Short Term course (46 hours) was held at the Hartt School of Music, West Hartford, Connecticut, August 1 8, 2015 with Mary Hofer (USA). Participants: Ludmila de Carvalho (Brazil), Alexandra Flecha (USA), Joseph P. Wagonner (USA), Ania Hejnar (Canada) and Anne Osborne (USA). SAA Unit 2 Short Term course (23 hours) was held at the American Suzuki Institute, Stevens Point, Wisconsin, July 26 31, 2015 with Mary Hofer (USA). Participants: Goodie Choi (USA), Margaret Mary Kane (USA) and Henriet Fourie Thompson (USA) SAA Unit 4 Short Term course (23 hours) was held at the American Suzuki Institute, Stevens Point, Wisconsin, July 19 24, 2015 with Mary Hofer (USA). Participant: Dr. Jeremy Chesman (USA). Congratulations! Suzuki Voice Program Highlights during October All Suzuki Voice Teachers have had different kinds of voice recitals and/or productions in their studios. Many Suzuki Voice students have been selected to perform in roles in their school productions. Kaius Uusimäki (10years old) performed May 17 th as a soloist of Kaartin soittokunta to the President of Finland and his wife. The Guards Band is the oldest operational orchestra in Finland, founded in 1819 and it is an official representative band of the Finnish Defense Forces. 4

5 Kaius and Dr.Kukkamäki Kaius Uusimäki and the Kaartin Soittokunta orchestra Eigo and Ms Eriko Shimada Eigo, Suzuki Voice student of Ms Eriko Shimada (England/Japan) has performed in the production Temple by Steve Waters. Music was composed by Stephen Warbeck and the Director was Howard Davies. Eigo was on stage 25 times. Suzuki Voice students of Music School Virtus made a Concert tour in Hungary in June 2015! 24 students participated with their teacher, Suzuki Voice Instructor Mervi Sipola-Maliniemi (Finland). Young singers from the Talent Education Institute of Singing: Janina Mäyry, Sini Hölsä and Tiia Ruikkala sang individual solo recitals during Spring Janina Mäyry Tiia Ruikkala Sini Hölsä Lucinda Pezzimenti Lucinda Pezzimenti, a student of Katrina Pezzimenti won the best conductor award for the big House Music event at Plenary Hall in July 2015 Melbourne Australia. Congratulations! Iiris Sydänmäki, a student of Mervi Sipola Maliniemi has performed in a childrens choir in many productions of the Finnish National Opera. Here is a picture of Leoš Janáček's opera Příhody lišky Bystroušky/The Cunning Little Vixen. Also Jana Corominas Segarra, a student of Jaume Fargas (Barcelona, Spain), performed the role of Noah's granddaughter in the Conservatori Liceu's production of Britten's Noah's Flood. 5

Suzuki Voice Graduation Recital was held in St Laurent s Church in January Also former Suzuki Voice students actively perform. Mezzosoprano Pihla Terttunen (Finland/Sweden) performed in the Finnish Classical Music festival Eurajoki BelCanto 5th June Soprano Petra Kukkamäki (Finland/Austria) performed in Romania during August She sang in Archita Music Festival and Sighişoara Music Festival with repertoire from Opera to Chamber Music. The Opera Gala in Archita was supported by The Maria Nobrega Foundation and was honoured by the presence of His Excellency Luiz Inacio da Silva, Former President of Brazil, His Royal and Imperial Highness Archduke Andreas Salvador Hapsburg-Lothringen, Sra Elizabeth Nobrega de Araujo Tsakiroglou and Col Michael R Carrington. 9 SUMMARY AND DECISIONS as of 2015 (Revision August 2015) The Suzuki Voice Program is approved by the ISA. The Suzuki Voice Program has been specially designed to learn vocal technique and style in a progressive manner. It is a Classical Voice Program. The Suzuki Voice Program is soon 30 years old (founded by Dr. Päivi Kukkamäki 1986, contract was made 1994). The first Expectant mothers Suzuki Voice Group started 29 years ago in Finland. There have been a total of 42 Conferences or workshops and 22 Concert trips with Suzuki Voice Students to 17 different countries since The Suzuki Voice Program has been in use and adapted by teachers around the world. Official Suzuki Voice teacher's exams in Europe have been conducted since 1998, in Australia since 2001 and the first official SAA UNIT 1 course in America since This also needs to be clarified that Suzuki Singing is the same thing as Suzuki Voice. In the early years it was also called Singing in the Suzuki Style. These are all copyright titles early version titles of Suzuki Voice. The International Suzuki Voice Committee has decided that until we have publications available Suzuki Voice Volume materials are available only to accepted Suzuki Voice teachers-in-training and accredited Suzuki Voice teachers and their students. This was signed by all committee members from USA, Australia and Europe on September 8th, Internationally accepted Volume 1 and 2 need no revision by unanimous agreement October 16th, 2012 at 3.35 pm during ISA Suzuki Voice Committee meeting. Volume 3 is internationally accepted. Volume 3 was recommended to be published during ISA Suzuki Voice Committee meeting August 21 st, 2013 at 4.24 pm. Minutes of the meeting January 11th, 2013 show unanimous agreement. Core material for Suzuki Voice Program's Advanced levels (Song selections) was accepted internationally October 16 th, 2012 at 5 pm. All agreed also that Vaccai belongs to advanced levels October 16 th, 2012 at 5 pm. Song selections by ESA, PPSA Levels and SAA UNITs are as follows: Level 4 part 1 3 (ESA), Intermediate level Stage 2 part 1 3 (PPSA), coming UNITs 4 6 (SAA). Level 5 part 1 4 (ESA), Advanced Level part 1 4 (PPSA), coming UNITs 7 10 (SAA): Minutes of the meetings January 16 th, March 13 th and May 8th, Level 5 requirements were accepted in the ESA already 12 years ago in Suzuki Voice Teachers have been trained from 21 countries. There are currently five Suzuki Voice Teacher Trainers (photo page 1) and one Instructor (as of 2014). All regions have different names for LEVELS or UNITS. ESA and PPSA hours are from the Professional Development Teacher Training Curriculum, SAA hours are from the current SAA Short Term courses. Practicums are not a requirement in SAA, but they are required when we compare regions to each other. ESA and PPSA Level 1 5 Suzuki Voice Teachers: Professional development and training in each level is hours + exams. SAA UNIT 1, 2, 3, since 2015 UNIT 4 Short Term training is hours depending on the UNIT. All regions have an audition at the beginning. SAA has a second audition before UNIT 4. ESA and PPSA do not have a second audition as they have an examination after every level which includes teaching, conversation, playing skills and an examination recital for the public. The idea of "Songs for Sharing" Workshop was born in 1999 in Barcelona by Jaume Fargas Fernandez and Dr. Päivi Kukkamäki. Suzuki Voice Teachers and Suzuki Voice Families together organize the events. Songs for Sharing Workshop means promoting international peace and cultural understanding through singing together, in ensemble, in solo and in multiple languages, using the Suzuki Voice repertoire: Volume 1 3 songs, Vaccai Vocalises, specific required Italian Antique Arias, Art Songs and Lieder, songs from Musical Theater, songs / part songs from each Suzuki Voice Country, and arias / ensembles from Opera & Oratorio. All ages of students, infants through adults, are encouraged to participate. July 2014 we found out about a serious breach of copyright and trademark. We decided to send a letter to the CEO / ISA board during September 4 th, 2014 meeting. We hope that the ISA board will discuss this issue and may take some further steps in this. Documents have been sent separately. The Suzuki Voice Web site is in English, Spanish, Finnish and Japanese, during 2016 it will be in German. Suzuki Voice Teacher s ESA, PPSA, SAA training results and Suzuki Voice Teacher s exam results will be updated yearly. The first Suzuki Voice Teachers have been trained in ESA from TERI (Level 1, 2, 3 and 4 October 10th 2014 Eriko Shimada). 9
