1 LAST UPDATED: 11/26/2018 Bijur Mechanical - Oil Pump - Axis - Timed Pressure Test Introduction This procedure tells you how to perform a timed pressure test. Perform this test on all HMC and VMC machines that have a Bijur mechanical oil pump system. You measure leak down time from peak pressure at the beginning of a pump cycle to zero pressure at the end. Leak down time affects the amount of oil that is sent to all the lubrication points in the machine, including the spindle. If the air and lubrication pressure drops too quickly, the spindle does not get enough lubrication. This may cause the spindle to fail. Prerequisites An axis with (5) lube points, (4) trucks and (1) ballnut leaks down from 40 psi (2.8 bar) to 20 psi (1.4 bar) in 100 to 120 seconds. Long X-Axis machines with (9) lube points, (8) trucks and (1) ballnut leaks down from 40 psi (2.8 bar) to 20 psi (1.4 bar) in less than 100 to 120 seconds. Pumps that do not reach 40 psi (2.8 bar) leak down to 20 psi (1.4 bar) in less than 100 seconds. Tools Required Timer Page 1 of 9 pages

3 1 Disconnect the lubrication tubing [1] that goes from the manifold port [2] to the oil pump. Install a plug [3] into the manifold port [2]. Note: The illustrations in this procedure show the oil lubrication manifold for the EC The location of the oil lubrication manifold varies between HMC and VMC machines, and between models within each category. Make sure to identify where each lubrication hose terminates before performing this procedure. 2 Disconnect the oil lubrication tubing [1] from the X- Axis port [3]. Install a plug [2] into the X-Axis port [3]. Disconnect the oil lubrication tubing [4] from the Y- Axis port [6]. Install a plug [5] into the Y-Axis port [6]. 3 Run the following code in MDI: G01; G53 Z-10. F10.; Z0 F10.; M99; Page 3 of 9 pages

4 4 Press [CYCLE START]. Start the timer when the lubrication pump cycles. Refer to the Z-Axis column in the chart at the end of this procedure. Record the pressure readings at 30 second intervals in the table below. 5 Press [PARAM/DGNOS]. Navigate to the I/O tab. Record the time at which low lube input indicator changes from 0 to 1. 5 Bijur Mechanical - Oil Pump - X Axis - Timed Pressure Test 1 Remove the plug [1] from the X-Axis port [3]. Connect the X-Axis oil lubrication tubing [2] into the X-Axis port [3]. Disconnect the oil lubrication tubing [4] from the Z- Axis port [6]. Install a plug [5] into the Z-Axis port [6]. 2 Run the following code in MDI: G01; G53 X-10. F10.; X0 F10.; M99; 3 Press [CYCLE START]. Start the timer when the lubrication pump cycles. Refer to the X-Axis column in the chart at the end of this procedure. 7 1 Remove the oil lubrication tubing from the X-Axis port. Install a plug into the X-Axis port. Remove the plug from the Y-Axis port. Connect the Y-Axis oil lubrication tubing into the Y- Axis port. 2 Run the following code in MDI: G01; G53 Y-10. F10.; Y0 F10.; M99; Page 7 of 9 pages

8 3 Press [CYCLE START]. Start the timer when the lubrication pump cycles. Refer to the Y-Axis column in the chart below. Record the pressure readings at 30 second intervals in the table below. 4 Press [PARAM/DGNOS]. Navigate to the I/O tab. Record the time at which low lube input indicator changes from 0 to 1. Press [RESET]. 5 Remove the plugs from the X-Axis and the Z-Axis ports. Connect the X-Axis [1] and Z-Axis [2] oil lubrication tubing into the correct ports. Remove the plug [5] from the spindle port [3]. Connect the spindle oil tubing [4] into the port [3] on the manifold. 6 Replace the air/lube cover panel. Attach the cable tray under the main manifold assembly with (2) retaining screws. Refer to the BIJUR - MECHANICAL - OIL PUMP MOTOR AND FILTER - REPLACEMENT. Axis Pressure Table Page 8 of 9 pages
