In response, Newmar has filed recall NHTSA #: 16V826 and TC #: Issue: On the affected motorhomes, a rubber-coated braided power steering hose may have inadequate clearance to the starter power stud due to incorrect routing. The power steering hose may rub against the stud on the starter motor, which may cause an electrical arc and a power steering fluid leak. A power steering leak in the presence of an electrical arc may increase the risk of fire or may require additional steering effort, increasing the risk of a crash. Units affected: Dutch Star and Ventana motorhomes built on Freightliner chassis. These motorhomes were manufactured between January 22 and November 17, Check the attached population list for specific unit numbers. Recommended Action Correction: The power steering hose will be rerouted to ensure proper clearance to the starter stud. Repair Procedure: Contact Daimler Trucks North America LLC at , or them at DTNA.Warranty.Campaigns@Daimler.com to locate a qualified service center near you. Schedule an appointment to perform the recall with an authorized DTNA repair center. Daimler Trucks North America will provide the work instructions and necessary parts. Newmar Corporation has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in specific Newmar recreational vehicles. The National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act requires that each vehicle which is subject to a recall campaign of this type must be satisfactorily repaired within a reasonable time after the owner has tendered it for repair. A failure to adequately repair within 60 days after tender of a vehicle is prima facie evidence of failure to repair within a reasonable time. To avoid providing these problematic solutions, every effort must be made to promptly schedule an appointment with each owner and to repair their vehicle as soon as possible. Vehicle owners are being notified of this recall. If the condition is not remedied within a reasonable time, they are instructed on how to contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. REASON FOR THIS RECALL Newmar Corporation has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain model year Dutch Star and Ventana motorhomes manufactured January 22, 2016, to November 7, 2016, built on Freightliner chassis. This recall is the result of information provided to us by Daimler Trucks North America LLC. On the affected motorhomes, a rubber coated braded power steering hose may have inadequate clearance to the starter power stud due to incorrect routing. This could cause the power steering hose to rub against the stud on the starter motor, which could cause an electrical arc and a power steering fluid leak. The motorhomes require immediate service. Continued use poses a potential safety hazard. DEALER CAMPAIGN RESPONSIBILITY Dealers are to provide to all customers/owner vehicles the service of completing this campaign at no charge to the customer/owner regardless of vehicle age, vehicle mileage, or ownership at the time of repair. On certain motorhomes, a rubber coated braded power steering hose may have inadequate clearance to the starter power stud due to incorrect routing. This could cause the power steering hose to rub against the stud on the starter motor, which could cause an electrical arc and a power steering fluid leak. A power steering leak in the presence of an electrical arc could increase the risk of fire causing injury and/or damage to property. A power steering fluid leak could also require additional steering effort which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect and reroute the power steering hose for proper clearance to the starter stud. The motorhomes require immediate service. Continued use poses a potential safety hazard. Motorhomes included in this recall: Dutch Star and 2017 Ventana class A motorhomes, built between 2/15/2016 and 10/24/2016.
