The room as a whole is subordinated to this purpose, through minimalism in terms of colour, appearance and design. Light is a major design factor in this context; however, what is equally decisive is that the luminaires blend smoothly and unobtrusively into the interior. It is easily recognisable as a member of the successful CLARIS range, as the latter s reduced linear design and strictly geometrical shape have been adopted and developed further. Its external appearance has been consistently minimised in line with current trends, without sacrificing any essential design feature. The very essence of this reduction is reflected by the uncompromisingly symmetrical frame. Its clean, angular shape is an unmistakable feature of CLARIS II. DESIGN CLARIS II A G LICHT BONN When we started developing the CLARIS range in the mid-90s, only few people believed in the success of a luminaire whose high-quality design was reduced to the essentials. Today we have every right to claim that this product has set a trend. CLARIS II is the latest step in a long line of successful design, which has been systematically minimised and boasts further improved technical lighting features.

10 Innovative cell louvre Sophisticated technology in an ultra-compact package With its cell louvre technology, Zumtobel is setting new standards for louvre luminaires. The cell louvre specially developed for CLARIS II is only about three quarters the size of conventional louvres. Minimalism is also reflected by the louvre s appearance: Unlike conventional louvres, the cell louvre does not consist of individually assembled aluminium parts. On the contrary, it is moulded in one piece and is therefore unbeatable in terms of precision, stability and uniformity. 100% = 65% CLARIS CLARIS II This comparison of cross-sections (actual size) strikingly illustrates the reduction in size: A CLARIS II luminaire occupies only 65 % of the volume its predecessor did.

11 CLARIS II CELL LOUVRE 11 Same illumination output, but less space required: 100 % light at 35 % less space Miniaturising a luminaire poses a huge challenge to lighting engineers. Yet despite its compact size, CLARIS II does not make any compromises in terms of light output ratio or light distribution. Owing to innovative cell louvre technology, extremely high light output ratios are achieved. In terms of light distribution and lighting effect, too, CLARIS II outclasses many luminaires with larger louvres. The photometrically precise design of the groove of the indirect reflector provides homogeneous illumination of the ceiling this creates a pleasant lighting ambience throughout the room, even with a suspended height of 30 cm. Thanks to this innovative lighting technology, the glare reduction specifications according to the EN standard are met, too. 16 Plain architectural language from individual luminaire through to modular lighting system Every single module in the CLARIS II range provides the following benefits: A variety of lighting tasks can be solved within a single range of luminaires that offers a consistent design look. The delicate appearance of the suspended support system significantly reduces the complexity of a lighting solution and eliminates the need to take other systems behind the ceiling into account. Its delicate design also allows extremely short suspension heights. The system is ideally suitable for room heights from 2.70 to 4 m. It is even possible to integrate tracks into the system. The Ergonomic Lighting Indicator (ELI) assesses the three quality components of a lighting solution. Firstly, ambient lighting. By additionally brightening up walls using wallwashers fitted with skywhite lamps, CLARIS II can exert a positive influence on people s health. CLARIS II floods fitted with warm white lamps have an effect at the emotional level. They produce a pleasant, beneficial room atmosphere. Ambient lighting upgraded by additional components boosts quality but also increases investment costs. Nevertheless, the initial extra investment pays off over time by controlling light cleverly and exploiting free daylight. This has a positive impact on LENI, the Lighting Energy Numeric Indicator.
