RETROFLEX Into the Future
RETROFLEX HURRICANE ISAAC Prior to Hurricane Isaac, ClearWorld began an off-grid pilot program in Harahan, LA (near New Orleans). As the storm system made landfall in LA, high winds and constant rain led to localized power outages, including outages throughout Harahan. There was only one bright spot during the storm: ClearWorld s RetroFlex pilot program installation in Harahan. ClearWorld employees traveled to the well lit corner in Harahan to verify and document the event. Following the storm, the pilot RetroFlex unit in Harahan has continued to perform within specifications measured during the original installation.
RETROFLEX MEASURABLE SOLUTIONS Improve streetlight performance during normal & adverse conditions Significantly reduce utility costs & maintenance costs Meet RPS requirements LED upgrade via retrofit Retrofit to existing LED installations Cost reductions via net metering Distribution management via Off-Grid Energy storage via RetroFlex batteries
Renewable: RetroFlex can qualify for both renewable standards and energy efficiency standards throughout the U.S. The combination of solar power, efficient LED lighting, and battery storage creates a number of options in achieving compliance. Flexible: RetroFlex s patented retro-fit allows the panels to be affixed to any dimension, diameter, or finish, and will work with any existing pole without compromising the integrity of its design. It also works with existing LED installations. Weather Resistant: RetroFlex s cylindrical design is rated for 150+ m.p.h. winds, making it hurricane resistant. All components are installed atop the pole to eliminate any flooding concerns as well.
RETROFLEX COSTS COMPARISON Traditional Streetlight Maintenance & Replacement Variable costs RetroFlex $$$ Savings Traditional Streetlight Costs include: 1. Initial cost of installation (typically considered a sunk cost) 2. Energy usage approximately 4,000 hours per light per year Energy Usage Structured Financing (15 year term) 3. Maintenance costs for each light and pole Installation Fixed costs RetroFlex Purchase Fixed costs 4. Replacement costs for each light (new light every 4 years) 5. Additional labor for light replacement
RETROFLEX COSTS COMPARISON RetroFlex provides immediate savings: Eliminates Energy Usage Costs - Solar conversion powers LED lighting Reduced Maintenance - RetroFlex Maintenance provided by ClearWorld Eliminates Replacement Costs 20 year life for LED lighting Debt Financing (6 year term) RULE OF THUMB: If annual spending on energy usage and maintenance per light is $200 or greater, then RetroFlex is a viable economic alternative.
RETROFLEX Configuration Options 230W solar array Off-Grid Net Metering Distributed Generation/Advanced Energy Storage RetroFlex - OG RetroFlex - NM RetroFlex DGAES 1kWh battery Remote Access Dimming Capabilities DC to AC Inverter Series Metering Net Metering Programmable Energy Storage Programmable Dispatch (2 hour) Peak Demand Reduction 1 Alleviates Distribution Constraints Off-Grid achieves grid independence and improves reliability during extreme weather events and distribution system interruptions. Also eliminates significant costs incurred for new streetlight installations (trenching, wiring, etc.). Net Metering and DGAES leverage import and export capabilities to enhance system performance and reduce peak demand during daylight hours. Low wattage LED power consumption occurs for 10 hours each night during periods of low demand. 1 Peak Demand Reduction for RetroFlex-NM limited by the coincidental time of day solar penetration and system peak demand.
RETROFLEX Financial Analysis RetroFlex can be purchased via Direct sale to end-user Debt through traditional lenders Debt through structured financing via ClearWorld RetroFlex Investment: Cumulative Savings & Payback Period Direct Sale (Capital Expenditure Year 1) Debt Financing (6 year 4.5%) Structured Financing (15 year 5%) Assumptions: Energy Usage Costs: $12 per month per light Annual Maintenance: $100 per light pole Replacement Costs + Labor: Every 4 years for lights
RETROFLEX Added Services and Options Ability to provide additional services to save Municipalities and Utilities: 1) Security Cameras 2) Traffic control devices 3) Weather monitoring 4) PM2.5 Monitor (Emission control) 5) Back up power for mission critical systems such as refrigeration, data centers, security systems, telecommunications equipment, emergency lighting, etc. 6) Ancillary services for utilities (frequency regulation, load shaving and demand/fast response)
