4 Main functions of the SANC Mandate the delegation to the annual general meeting of IEC Establish a national position on IEC Council documents submitted to members for vote/comment Seek /lobby for participation in the IEC management structures Provide feedback to SABS and other stakeholders on developments at a strategic level

7 IEC Mirror committees (MCs) Membership and Chairman ratified by the parent SABS TC/SC SANC secretariat to be informed Members download working documents from the IEC website for the relevant IEC TC/SC (using MyIEC facility) comment and vote on working documents SABS TC mandates delegate(s) to the IEC international TC/SC meetings MC identifies experts to be members of international working groups

9 Current role of SANC Secretariat Registers MC members on IEC database and assigns permissions and roles for each Sends reminders for responses with copies of the IEC working documents to mirror committee members and chairmen by . Unlike the case with ISO working documents Submits the national response on each working document to IEC as advised by MC chair confirmation from IEC sent to MC chair. Keeps record of voting responses persistent nonparticipation report for action (MC chairman/parent TC)

11 Scope of IEC TC 2 To prepare International Standards regarding specifications for rotating electrical machines without limitations of voltage, output or dimensions with the exception of the following: - Traction motors within the scope of TC 9: Electric railway equipment; - Motors and generators within the scope of TC 69: Electric road vehicles and electric industrial trucks; - Motors and generators for use in cars and commercial vehicles; - Motors and generators for use in aeronautics or space applications

15 Young professionals IEC YP annual programme started 2010 Annual competition to select two nominees (see Wattnow) South African nominees supported by SAIEE since 2012 South African local chapter of IEC YPs started in 2014 Linked in Group Action needed to develop local programme of YP events e.g. collaboration with SAIEE, etc Encourage YPs to join IEC MCs as mentees existing MC member as mentors: exposure to international standards development as important part of professional development
