8 To develop a high quality design portfolio in a self-contained binder that complies with all of the design portfolio parameters defined below to design the fastest full-scale Hallway Racer! To create the fastest full-scale Hallway Racer Prototype powered by a supplied cordless drill that complies with all of the design parameters defined below.

9 The following items need to be of high quality and included in your design portfolio in the order listed below: Cover Page Packet Inserted Problem Statement to clearly Define the Problem. Gather Information from at least 3 sources on steering, braking, and drive systems for vehicles.

10 Dragster Design Portfolio Parameters cont. Generate 3 Alternative Thumbnail Designs of each of the researched systems. Develop a Detailed Sketch of your Best Design for each of the researched systems on separate 8 ½ by 11 paper. Research online at Menards, Fleet Farm, and Harbor Freight to find the best prices for your requested materials and develop a Purchase Order for each. Total cost of the prototype may not exceed $50.

11 The chart below lays out the minimum and maximum design parameters for your Hallway Racer Prototype. If your prototype does not meet all of the design parameters, you will be disqualified from the official competition. You may still test your Hallway Racer if your instructor deems it safe to test.

14 Have your prototype evaluated to see if it meets all of the defined design parameters to qualify for the time trials. Compete in the time trials and calculate the speed in MPH to qualify for the final race!

15 Calculate the actual mph for your Hallway Racer ft/second X (5280/3600) = mph. In order to calculate the actual miles per hour (mph) for your Hallway Racer, you need to figure out how many feet your car is traveling per second. _50ft_ Distance traveled / Time in seconds = ft/sec. In order to convert ft/sec into miles/hour you need to know the number of seconds in one hour. 1 hr = 60 minutes X 60 seconds = 3600 secs. You also need to know the number of feet in a mile which is Therefore 1ft/sec = 5280/3600 mph. So if your Hallway Racer traveled 50ft/sec = 50 X (5280/3600) = mph.

16 Make modifications to your prototype to improve efficiency in speed and handling. Have your prototype re-evaluated to see if it meets all of the defined design parameters to qualify for the time trials. Race your prototype in the final race and calculate the speed in MPH to determine the champion. *** Winner will receive a footlong sub of their choice from Subway.***
