Connection example S3084 S3085 Sensor wire MOT.C MOT.B Bat.- (-) (+) BATTERY MOT.A Bat.+ FAN Connector Power switch PRO / Wifi Receiver Battery plug connection The battery cables must be provided with a suitable, polarity-protected plug-in system. To protect against polarity reversal and for secure connection, use batteries with the same connector system only. Do not solder for more than 5 seconds at a time and ensure that there is sufficient cooling to avoid damaging the controller. The cables to the drive battery may not exceed a total length of 20 cm. Connect the BEC cable to receiver (channel 2). Pay attention to the 9 / 32

correct polarity. Connect the W-Lan module to the "PRG" port. Pay attention to the correct polarity, the signal wire is marked. Mount the fan on the cooling block using the four screws supplied. Connection to the "FAN" port. Attention Inverted polarity would destroy the speed controller. Installation Mount the speed controller in the model such that the cooling surface remains exposed. Ensure adequate cooling of the motor and the speed controller by providing adequately sized cooling air openings. Protect the speed controller from moisture and dirt. Fan connection port Here you can connect an additional fan. If the temperature of the controller is below 35 C, the fan is switched off. Switch connection port The supplied power switch is connected to this socket. If it is not used, the controller will immediately switch on when the battery is connected. Setup Button The button can only set the throttle level. Installation in the model and commissioning Mount the speed controller in the model such that the cooling surface remains exposed. Ensure adequate cooling by providing adequately sized cooling air openings. (+) red Attention! If you do not want to use the BEC supply from the controller and instead use a separate battery, you have to remove and isolate the red wire (+) of the BEC plug as shown in the sketch. This will prevent a backflow into the controller, which could destroy the controller. If you want to connect an additional battery to the BEC system, a diode (e.g. Schottky diode 91505) needs to be soldered into the BECs red wire, so that the current can only flow from the BEC to the receiver.! CAUTION If you wish to connect a receiver battery in addition to the BEC receiver power supply, you must proceed as described above, otherwise the controller will overheat and it can burn. Risk of fire and burns! 10 / 32

Motor connection The motor is connected to the speed controller through the three black cables (G 3,5 connectors). Solder the related G 3,5 connectors No to the motor cables. The three motor cables can alternatively be soldered directly to the three black cables of the speed controller. Attention When connecting a motor with a sensor connection, always ensure the correct connection of the motor. The following connections are permitted: Attention C B A - C, B, A Configuration C B A The connecting cables must never be connected in the order B-A-C, this leads to the destruction of the speed controller! In the C-B-A configuration, change to C-B-A in the "Motor Wiring" menu item in the speed controller to maintain the correct direction of rotation of the motor. Only use the enclosed sensor cable, making sure that the plug is inserted correctly and deep enough to prevent interference. Receiver JR connector The 3-poles cable with the JR plug is plugged into the throttle channel at the receiver. This cable is used to supply the receiver with voltage (5-8 V), the so-called BEC System - Battery Elimination Circuit. In addition, the speed controller receives through this cable its control commands from the receiver. The supplied power switch is connected to this socket. If it is not used, the controller will immediately switch on when the battery is connected. 11 / 32

Setting the throttle travel Note This initial adjustment of the throttle lever is only necessary if you use another transmitter or if the settings have been changed. Switch on the transmitter ("ON"), then place the throttle lever in the "neutral" position and stop. The throttle and brake on the transmitter should be set to 100. Connect the battery to the controller, making sure the polarity is correct. Switch on the controller. Once all connecting cables are connected properly, the motor generates a short beep to indicate that the power supply is connected. Now press the push button for longer than 1 second. The green LED flashes. Upon releasing the push button, the green LED starts to glow and the neutral point is saved. Now open the throttle completely. The red LED starts to glow; the full throttle position is saved. Now apply the brake fully. Both LEDs start to glow; the full braking position is saved. Now return the throttle to neutral. The red and green LEDs flash and signal successful completion of transmitter adjustment. 12 / 32

Special characteristics Advanced timing If the Advanced timing value is decreased, the power consumption and the temperature of the motor are also reduced. The maximum speed and acceleration are also reduced, thus increasing the battery life. If the Advanced timing value is increased, the power consumption and the temperature of the motor are also increased. The maximum speed and acceleration are also increased, thus reducing the battery life. To increase the maximum speed, we recommend the act on the gear ratio. If the value is set to 0, the controller is in the 0-boost mode and thus compliant with the 0-boost rules. This is signaled by flashing of the green LED in the neutral position. Acceleration Influences the run-up behavior of the motor. A lower value corresponds to softer start-up of the motor; a higher value means somewhat more power. Start power When used as launch control, this can greatly simplify starts. Power curve Affects primarily the response. A lower value makes the throttle softer and more controllable; a higher value makes the response more aggressive. Reverse function TwoWay: Reverse gear with adjustable delay (off 2.5 s) TwoWay2: Reverse gear with a fixed delay of 1 second TwoWay 3: The reverse is only possible if the throttle lever is brought from the forward travel into the braking position and then reset to neutral. By pushing the throttle lever into the brake position, then it is only possible to reverse. Telemetry function Values such as the temperature of the components, speed and current, as well as the error log can be read via the programming box following operation. Note If a sensor problem occurs during operation, the controller switches automatically to the sensorless function! 14 / 32

Model (Motor type) You can set the motor type Sensorless = Hybrid, Sensored = sensor setting. Battery (battery type) You can set the battery type here LiPo / LiFe / NiMh (NiCd). If the battery type is changed, the low-voltage cut-off voltage is set automatically to the AUTO mode. The correct setting of the battery type is extremely important, as otherwise your battery can be destroyed. Cut_off V. (Low-voltage cut-off voltage) You set the low-voltage cut-off voltage here. Disable/Auto / 6.0V ~ 23.0V (0.1V steps) If the battery type is changed, the low-voltage cut-off voltage is set automatically to the AUTO mode. The AUTO mode differs, depending on the controller type. PWR Curve (power curve) You set the power curve here. 0 ~ 10 You use this function to set the throttle response and thus the power curve. (Similar to the exponential function on the transmitter) 2 Boost Max+TB OFF: All timing is disabled. The LED should blink GREEN at neutral in this mode. This is the preferred mode for Stock Racing. ON: The speed and efficiency of a motor all depends on the boost timing setting. When boost timing is higher, speed should be fast and impacts the output (depending on the motor RPM). Be aware that while higher values increase the power and RPM, it also causes excessive heat. Avoid setting the boost too high to prevent fatal problems to the ESC and motor. TB (TURBO): This option is activated when the throttle is located at 100%. Boost+TB are applied into timing; the maximum value of both is limited to 58. This is an ideal option for a long, straight course. In Hybrid Mode, the maximum value of both settings is limited to 25. Boost Min-rpm Set the minimum RPM that will activate the Boost timing. For example, with a minimum set to 1000 RPM, the boost timing will be activated as soon as the RPM reaches This option can be set between 0~64500 but cannot be higher than the Boost Max RPM. 17 / 32

Boost Max-rpm Set the maximum RPM limit for the boost timing. For example, with a boost value set to 20-degrees and maximum RPM set at 20000, the boost will cap out and hold at 20-degrees once the ESC crests This option can be set between 0~65000 but cannot be lower than the Boost Min RPM. Boost-TH. Limit Boost Throttle Limit Mode sets the boost timing limit within 5 steps of the throttle location. (Boost OFF and ON are not supported.) Refer to the graphs below. Boost Boost Throttle Limit Boost ON rpm Boost + TH rpm Turbo Delay Delay the turbo activation. Turbo is immediately activated when the delay value is set as 0.00 and the throttle is moved to full. When a value is entered, the turbo is only activated after the throttle is moved to full and the set delay time has elapsed. Turbo + Slope Set the amount of time it takes to reach turbo speeds after activation. The lower the value, the more the acceleration and heating is increased. Turbo Slope Set the amount of time it takes to recover from turbo speeds when the throttle is back to the original location. The lower the value, the more the brake effect and vehicle movement is decreased. Acceleration (acceleration, soft throttle) You use this function to specify how quickly the throttle commands are transmitted to the motor. Influences the run-up behavior of the motor. A lower value corresponds to softer start-up of the motor; a higher value means somewhat more power. 18 / 32

Start power (Start power) You set the start power here (Step: 1%) You use this function to set the minimum start power when the motor starts to run. It is comparable to a minimum amount of throttle. St.curr. Limit (starting current limitation) You set the starting current limitation here. Off / 10% ~ 100% When used as launch control, this can greatly simplify starts. With an optimal setting, this prevents spinning of the tyres and thus ensures an optimal start. The value thus depends on the condition of the runway surface. OFF permits maximum current. Start current limitation is activated if the throttle level is held in the neutral position or the brake position for longer than 10 seconds. It is deactivated when the motor is running and the neutral position is reached once again. curr. Limit (current limitation) You set the current limitation here. Off / 10% ~ 100% With the aid of current limitation, you can reduce the torque of the motor and improve the drivability of your vehicle. Reverse Func (reverse function) Reverse function on/off. One Way: Functions: forward/brake Two Way 1: Functions: forward/brake/reverse. Driving in reverse is activated automatically after the reverse delay. The brake is activated during the reverse delay. Two Way 2: Functions: forward/brake/reverse. If the stick direction on the transmitter is changed and the motor is running, the brake is activated. If the motor is not running and the joystick direction is changed, the reverse function is activated. The reverse function is activated in any case after no more than 6 seconds of braking, even if the motor is still running. Two Way 3: Functions: forward/brake/reverse. The reverse is only possible if the throttle lever is brought from the forward travel into the braking position and then reset to neutral. By pushing the throttle lever into the brake position, then it is only possible to reverse. Rev.Delay (reverse delay) You set the reverse gear delay here: Off / 0.2 s / 0.5 s / 0.8 s / 1.3 s / 1.8 s / 2.5 s. The reverse delay is the time after which the reverse gear is activated. Before then, the brake is active. 19 / 32

Max-reverse (maximum reverse speed) You set the maximum reader speed here: 20% ~ 100%. The maximum reverse speed determines the maximum power that is available when driving in reverse and permits reduction of the acceleration and speed when driving in reverse in mode Two Way 1, 2 or 3. Neutral W. (neutral point width) You set the width of the neutral point here: narrow, normal, wide The neutral point width is the region around the neutral position of the transmitter joystick and, depending on the mechanical play of the transmitter joystick, can be adjusted. Direction (motor's direction of rotation) You set the motor's direction of rotation here. Normal / Reverse Brake Response Adjust the break strength. The higher the percent, the stronger the brake. A.B.S. Brake Here you can set the ABS braking effect. Off/ Weakest/ Weak/ Normal/ Strong/ Strongest. You set ABS braking OFF here or the strength that you need at the full braking position. Drag Brake Using the INC & DEC buttons, set the automatic braking effect 0 ~ 100%. Set the automatic braking effect for the neutral position. Practical values: 0~30% (crawler: 40~100%). Min-Brake (minimum braking effect) Using the INC & DEC buttons, you set the automatic brake here: 0 ~ 100%. Set the minimum braking effect. (Practical values: 0 ~ 40%) (Braking range: minimum braking effect ~ maximum braking effect). Mid Brake Amount Set the middle percentage of the break range. Mid Brake Location Set the position of the middle brake range. This function is deactivated when mid brake amount and mid brake location are set at 0%. 20 / 32

Maximum brake Here you can set the maximum brake 0~100%. Here you can set the maximum brake for the full brake position. (Practical values: 70 ~ 80%) (Braking range: minimum braking effect ~ maximum braking effect) Soft Brake Set the power to break hard or break soft. Note: Hybrid Mode only supports a soft break. Brake Freq Set the brake frequency. The lower the frequency the higher the control; the higher the frequency the lower the control. Motor Freq Set the motor frequency. The lower the frequency, the faster the initial acceleration; the higher the frequency, the softer the acceleration and more heat is generated by the ESC. Note: Hybrid Mode only supports 8khz and 16khz. Drag Freq Set the drag frequency. The lower the frequency the better the effect of the break control; the higher the frequency the softer the break control becomes.. Example for the Brake setting Min-Max Brake Brake effect (%) Throttle control brake travel (%) Example:Min.Brake =20, Max.Brake =90 21 / 32

Number-pole (number of motor poles) You set the number of motor poles here: 2 ~ 20. Set the number of motor poles (on car motors, at least 2) so that the maximum and average speed of the most recent operation can be displayed. 27 Firmware update The user-installed updates ensures that the speed controller always has the newest software and can be safely expanded with future functions. General preparation To update, you need a Windows PC and the grstudio firmware upgrade software. You can download it from our web site. Open the item page for your controller and click on the Downloads tab. Under the item "PC Update software", you will now find the required file. After the download these.zip files must be extracted. 1. USB drivers installed? (The drivers are in the software packet HoTT_PC_Software ) 2. Select COM Port 3. Start the "Speed controller" program In the "Device" program group, start the "Speed controller" program. (Alternatively select in menu the related entry.) S 4. Disconnect the speed controller Disconnect the controller from the receiver, the power supply and a motor. 5. Connect the speed controller to the PC Required accessories: USB interface for Graupner/GM-GENIUS USB interface adapter cable for HoTT 7168.S Battery Connect the adapter lead No to the USB interface and connect the usb cable to your PC. A red LED should light on the usb interface adapter, otherwise check step (1.). (The LED quits automatically after a period depending on the OS). 27 / 32

Disconnect the 3-wire connection cable of the speed controller from the receiver. Connect the 2 wire end of the adapter cable (Item no S) to the telemetry jack (see page 7) on the speed controller. Now connect an operating battery (do not exceed the max. permissible operating voltage!) to the appropriate connections on the controller. However, do not yet switch on the controller by means of the ON/OFF switch on the controller. Then you have two possibilities to update the firmware: Auto download or File download. If you wish to transfer the current firmware to the controller automatically, use the "Load automatically" option. The application will then attempt to download the current firmware over the Internet. Immediately after clicking on the button, the bar starts to become green. Switch on the controller at the switch before the bar fills. Another dialogue window opens in which you have to select the desired firmware by clicking the Open file button. The application then downloads the file and transfers it to the controller. If you wish to transfer special firmware that you have in the form of a file to the controller, use the "Open file" option. In then opened dialogue window select the previously downloaded file, then the green bar starts to fill. Switch on the controller at the switch before the bar fills; the application will then transfer the firmware. Detailed update instructions for HoTT components can be found on our home page in the download section for the particular item. 28 / 32
