4 TE TROUBRIDGE DECISION August, 9 G.O.D. SETUP INFO On the night of August, 9, Rear Admiral Sir Ernest Troubridge, commanding the First Cruiser Squadron set a course to intercept the German battlecruiser GOEBEN and her consort BRESLAU west of the Greek island of Zante, south of the entrance to the Adriatic. Regular reports from the cruiser GLOUCESTER which had been shadowing the German force since the day before indicated Troubridge s four armored cruisers could intercept the GOEBEN as early as the next morning. But history has recorded that Troubridge had a change of heart and later faced court-martial for failing to pursue the German battlecruiser.
