1 The Capture of Hubert-Folie Now that Bras is taken, the 8 th Motor Battalion heads for Hubert-Folie, while the 3 Mon comes up to take its place in Bras. Unfortunately, German mortar fire pins them down for almost two hours, preventing them from rushing to Hubert-Folie. The enemy takes advantage of this setback to reinforce their positions. 1 Setting The Fifes' tanks move up to a position northeast of Hubert-Folie, mortared and shelled all the way. At 20:00 hours they attack: C-Squadron leading, followed by A. This time the advance goes smoothly. By 20:35 hours, General Pip Roberts is able to report to Corps, "2 FFY going in now. Little opposition." Meanwhile, G-Company of 8 th RB advances from the direction of Bras. 1 Lodieu, Normandy '44: Operation Goodwood, pg. 74. The Capture of Hubert- Folie from Bourguébus Ridge Page 1

The Germans must prevent this. Aftermath The leading Squadron approached the village before the artillery barrage had stopped. G- Company's soldiers, placed on the right, behind the tanks, did not hesitate to disembark from their halftracks. In a short time, almost eighty SS prisoners were taken. There was not much opposition from the rest of the village except for one Sherman shooting at the British carriers, killing Corporal Isard and wounding several soldiers. The company reproached the tank crews until it was discovered that the Sherman in question had been captured the day before by the Germans. The town can be modeled with a small number of buildings. The British only need to clear and capture any two of them. The Capture of Hubert- Folie from Bourguébus Ridge Page 12
