17 Frequency Regulation Different methods available for frequency regulation include generator inertia, adding and subtracting generation assets, dedicated demand response and electricity storage. Frequency regulation is mainly provided by ramping (up and/or down) of generation assets and electricity storage. This typically takes minutes rather than seconds. Electricity storage has the capability for doing the job in milliseconds Storage technologies also improve the quality of power through frequency regulation, allows companies to produce power when it is cheapest and most efficient, and provide an uninterruptible source of power for critical infrastructure and services. 16 Danfoss Drives DKDD.EP.409.A2.02
18 Frequency Regulation Droop mode When the power demand increases, all generators on the grid allow frequency to droop. This will balance the load all the generators on the grid. Then the PMS gives all generators a command to increase frequency so that the grid frequency is maintained at its nominal value. When the load is reducing on the grid, the frequency of the generators will increase, and the PMS gives a command to decrease frequency. 17 Danfoss Drives DKDD.EP.409.A2.02
19 Frequency Regulation Isochronous Speed Mode In the isochronous speed control mode, the Micro Grid frequency reference is kept the same as the grid frequency. This will keep power at zero regardless of grid frequency. The actual power is controlled by base current reference. This reference needs to be controller by power management system (PMS) that will handle power sharing between different machines on the grid. 18 Danfoss Drives DKDD.EP.409.A2.02
