5 5 Section 1 Introduction Introduction General Please read this manual carefully, it contains information that will assist you with all aspects of installation and maintenance, including unpacking. Correct installation & Maintenance will ensure smooth functionality and increase the lifespan of components. Gunnebo Entrance Control Ltd makes every effort to ensure that this manual is reviewed whenever significant changes are made to the design. However, our policy of continuous improvement may result in some small differences between the unit supplied and the description in this document. Before carrying out maintenance or repair, you must ensure that the equipment is isolated from the electrical supply and sufficient tests made to verify that the isolation is complete. When the supply cannot be disconnected, functional testing, maintenance and repair of the electrical units are to be undertaken only by persons fully aware of the danger involved and who have taken adequate precautions and training. Errors Reports on errors, comments and suggestions concerning this manual are requested and encouraged. Hardware Changes No hardware changes may be made without authority from Gunnebo who will be responsible for ensuring that the proposed change is acceptable in all safety aspects. Personnel authorised by Gunnebo may only make hardware changes. Any maintenance or modification of Emergency Stop and Guarding Circuitry must be followed by safety checks on the whole hardwired Emergency Stop and Guarding Circuitry. Prior to a hardware change, records must be made of the change, one of which MUST be sent to the Technical Department at Gunnebo.

6 6 Warnings, Cautions and Notes Where necessary within the technical manual, Warnings, Cautions and Notes may be given. Warnings Are for conditions that might endanger people; the instructions given in Warnings must be followed precisely. They are given to avoid injury or death. Cautions Are for conditions that may cause damage to equipment or may spoil work; The instructions given in Cautions must be followed to avoid spoilt work or damage to equipment. Notes Alert the user to pertinent facts and conditions. Static Sensitive Devices Some of the PCBs within in the equipment, which is covered by this technical manual, contain Static Sensitive Devices. It is recommended that maintenance and service engineers are fully aware of the Local Industry Regulations and procedures when handling such devices. Good Practices Equipment being installed must not be left unattended unless all potential mechanical and electrical hazards have been made safe. A competent person must be left in charge when the equipment is to be left whilst potentially unsafe. The following points indicate good practice that will contribute to safety and avoid equipment damage. i Ensure that all electrical power supplies and batteries are turned OFF and disconnected before working on any of the equipment. ii iii iv Never leave the equipment in a potentially dangerous state. Use only the correct tools for the task in hand. When working on the equipment, remove any personal jewellery that may be conductive, or clothing that may become entangled with mechanical parts. Equipment Safety Systems Safety systems and controls, such as interlocks, covers and guards, must not be overridden or bypassed by personnel, other than authorised staff who are qualified to carry out prescribed actions within specified Warnings. Important Notice The Ped Gate is a security product; any children or minors using the Ped Gate must be supervised and accompanied by a responsible adult. Competence Centre Entrance Control does not accept any liability if this rule is not enforced.

8 8 Section 2 Product Description Product Description The PedGate is a full height security gate that offers a robust and trouble free operation designed for external installations such as Industrial complexes and Military Establishments. The PedGate is manufactured in galvanized mild steel and finished in a polyester powder coat paint. All PedGates can be supplied with a GRP canopy. Entry and Exit can be made by Card reader, Pushbutton pedestal device specified by the client at the time of order. The PedGate can be supplied as a Manual, Electric lock or Electro Hydraulically powered closer unit. The following variations can be supplied by Gunnebo; however this Technical Manual provides sufficient information to cover all models. 11 11 Section 3 Instructions for Use Instructions for Use The information contained in this section should be used as a basis for the instruction of personnel in the correct use of the gate. Operating Sequence The operating procedure is shown below and given the sequence of passage through the PedGate in either direction. The gate will normally be locked. Operate the Access Control Device if fitted or manually open door. On the acceptance of a signal from the Access Control Device the gate will unlock and be free to open. Pass through the PedGate, using your hand to push the gate. The gate will automatically lock back to its closed position. Note - Gunnebo recommends the fitting of a push button if free exit is required. Fail State The PedGate electric lock can be set to fail lock or fail safe. Access Control Devices Gunnebo can supply the mounting for an Access Control Device, which is specified at the initial order to meet customer requirements.

12 12 Section 4 Technical Information Technical Information Standard Features The PedGate is often installed alongside the RotaSec but may be used independently of the RotaSec. It features a galvanized mild steel frame to which a five bar gate is attached to by two rise and fall hinges for extra security. These hinges can be mounted Pass Right or Pass Left depending on the customer s requirements. The control of the gate is governed by the following: Manual lock. Electric lock. Hydraulically powered closer. Optional Features Gunnebo can supply the following features on request for PedGate. GRP canopy. Pushbutton pedestal. Card reader pedestal. Remote Console to specific requirements. Battery Back Up system. Alternative finishes.

15 15 Section 5 Installation Installation Unpacking On receipt of equipment on site, check all items are complete and undamaged. If for any reason transit damage has occurred, ensure the extent of any damage is recorded and if considered necessary report the incident to Gunnebo. PedGate models are delivered as a partly assembled kit of parts, which may require lifting equipment with working capacity of at least 600Kgs for off-loading and installation. Retain all major component packaging for re-use in the event that items may need to be returned for servicing during their life. Tools Required Step Ladder One Metre Long (minimum) Spirit Level Tape Measure Set of Metric Allen Keys Set of Metric Spanners Hammer Drill Chisel Attachment Safety Gloves Special Key Spanner (for access panel) Diamond Drill bits for 12mm bolts Tungsten Drill bits for 12mm bolts Extension Lead Generator (if power is not available) Chalk Plum Line Shims Tool Kit - General Safety Glasses PLEASE READ ALL SECTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE COMMENCING INSTALLATION Site Preparation Ensure the site base area has been completed in accordance with the approved site installation drawing. NOTES: 1. A concrete base suitable for external or internal use is required. Alternative types of base may be acceptable subject to discussion with Gunnebo technical personnel. 2. Fixing centres, it is not necessary to pre-drill the base to receive the PedGate, drilling is carried out when the equipment is erected. 3. Conduit entry positions to suit the installations. NOTE: Items 1 and 3 are the responsibility of the client. 4. Should the base include a steel reinforcing mesh or be of hollow -pot or planked construction will be encountered at less than 100mm below the finished floor level (FFL), Gunnebo technical personnel must be consulted to agree a suitable method of securing the PedGate. NEVER position the PedGate to span an expansion joint in the base. Straight bar rotor

16 16 Headroom A minimum floor to ceiling height of 2600mm must be provided to allow sufficient headroom for erection and subsequent maintenance operations. For security applications, when it is undesirable to leave a gap above the PedGate an overhead grille or barrier must be provided which is removable to allow installation or maintenance. Such infill's should be retained from the secure side, to maximise security. Conduit Routing Conduit carrying cables for Power, enter the PedGate from under floor. Conduit Routing From Under floor Conduit routed under floor must be sited accurately as shown on Site Preparations Diagram. Please note that the standard locations indicated should be utilised where possible. We recommend the use of 20mm diameter steel conduit which should be left protruding a minimum of 50mm above Finished Floor Level to prevent the ingress of surface water. Conduit Routing From Overhead Cables can enter from above if the GRP canopy is used. Power cables from PedGate If the PedGate has Electric lock and / or hydraulic closer, 5 meters of cable will be supplied To mount the power supply box. Cable Requirements All conduits and cables MUST be provided by others. Cables must be laid in the conduits and left with 5 metre long tail at the PedGate position. Power Cables One conduit should be dedicated for the power supply from an external source and be run back to the nearest fused spur. A triple-core, earthed 1.5mm 2 cable rated at a minimum of 10 amps should be provided. The power supply cable must be isolated until installation has been completed and must be terminated to a live supply by others. If Engineers from Gunnebo are erecting the unit, it is preferable to arrange concurrent attendance of the site Electrical Contractors to position the conduits and terminate cables. RCCD (Earth Leakage Protection) It is customer responsibility to ensure the incoming supply to the RotaSec meets current Regulations and to fit appropriate safety devices accordingly. Drilling details Refer to Fig 5.1 for drilling and surface details.

Concrete to BS 5328:1997 specification, type ST5 Base to be flat and level to +/-5mm over footprint area. IMPORTANT Any horizontal pipe or conduit runs below the surface must avoid gate fixing positions.

18 18 Setting to work Move the gate frame into position, check the frame is square and level before securing. Insure that the hinges have been well greased internally. Fix hinges to the frame using the M10 secure head fixings( Female hinge) apply loctite to fixings. Fix male hinge to gate leaf as above for fixings and loctite. Line up leaf and frame, this will need to be done by two persons and the gate leaf will need to be in the open position. At this stage if the unit is a manual closer the closer unit will need to be mounted in the holes provided in the top of the leaf and the gate frame. If the gate has the electric strike closer this will already be fitted in the required configuration. If the gate is fitted with a hydraulic closer this would have been set up in the factory all that will be required is to mount it in the corresponding positions. If the PedGate has a GRP roof fit the roof mounting brackets and then carefully fit the roof into place to the holes provided, Customer Connections On completion of the installation routines the PedGate must be connected to the Customer s services. Electrical Connections Note The following routines must be carried out by a qualified electrician. Fig 5.2 Mains Power Electrical Power Preparation Connection Check that mains power is off with a certificated and calibrated voltage meter when it s safe to do so, connect the Earth first, and then the Neutral and then the Live connection last. Three-core cable with a conductor area of 1.5mm (min), approved for the specific installation. Power Supply Check the incoming mains is isolated. Feed the mains supply cable through the Power Box to the MCB. Cut back and strip the sleeve as shown in Fig. 5.2

19 19 Powering up the PedGate Turn the mains power on. If the PedGate has an Electric Strike in the Fail-Safe or Fail- Lock configurations the strike should energise and the gate will be locked into the closed position. Giving the gate a signal. The Strike will de energise and allow valid transit. If the gate is fitted with a Hydraulic closer, on receiving a valid signal the gate will automatically open for the pre programmed time ( 5 seconds ) and then close. Electric Strike configurations. There are two configurations for the electric strike fail safe or fail lock depending on the customer requirements, this will be configured in the factory but can be changed if required later please refer to the user manual provided for the Electric Strike. Hydraulic closer operations. The hydraulic closer has been pre programmed in the factory, if adjustment is required please contact Gunnebo Technical Support.

20 20 Section 6 Maintenance Maintenance General Care The PedGate should be cleaned and greased at regular intervals, using the following approved materials. Routine Cleaning, all finishes Cleaning agent. Action: Soap or mild detergent water. Sponge rinse with clean water, wipe dry as necessary Fingerprints Cleaning agent: Action: Soap or warm water or organic solvent (acetone, alcohol, genclene) Rinse with clean water and wipe if necessary Stubborn Stains and Discoloration, all Finishes Cleaning agent: Action: Mild cleaning solutions or domestic service cleaners. Rinse well with clean water and wipe dry. Oil, Grease Marks, all Finishes Cleaning agent: Action: Organic solvents (acetone, alcohol genclene, trichlorethane). Clean after with soap and water, rinse well with clean water and wipe dry. Rust and other Corrosion products, Stainless Finishes Cleaning agent: Action: Oxalic acid. The cleaning solution should be applied with a swab and allowed to stand for 15 to 20 minutes before being washed away with water. May continue using a domestic surface cleaner to give final clean. Rinse well with clean water (precautions for acid cleaners should be observed). Minor Scratches on Painted Surfaces Cleaning agent: Action: Lightly rub with cutting paste. Rinse area with water and dry. Apply touch-up paint in fine layers. Allow 2 weeks to harden. Blend into surrounding paintwork, using a fine cutting paste. Deep Scratches on Painted Finishes Causing Rust Cleaning agent: Remove rust with a small sharp knife. Apply rust inhibiting paint (red oxide). Fill scratch with fine body filler to just under finished surface. Follow procedure for minor scratches Greasing Engineers need to carry out this action during service visits.

21 21 Routine Maintenance General Indications The PedGate should be inspected and cleaned at regular intervals in order to maintain the components in good working order and to check for signs of wear. Note - The following indications refer to an installation where the average number of transits per year is equal to one million. When used in dusty conditions, increase the inspection intervals. Warning - To avoid the risk of electric shock, always ensure that the electrical power and batteries are disconnected before inspecting the mechanism. Electrical Isolation No general maintenance is required apart from replacement fuses in the event of a failure. Lubricants For the lubrication of parts subject to wear, use Molycote BR2, plus grease or an equivalent grease containing graphite or molybdenum sulphide (MoS) Do not grease moving parts unless specifically indicated in this manual. The use of grease can lead to a build up of dust that can impair operation of the mechanism. Components Annual Checks (Operations to be carried out with the power supply and BBU disconnected) Cables and Connectors (Operations to be carried out with the power supply and BBU disconnected) Check that the wire connectors are firmly attached. Check that the terminals are fully tightened. Check that the insulation of the wires is in good condition and that no conductors are exposed. Check that mechanism fixings, screws and encoder grub screws are tight. Carry out general testing as described previously. Electrical Circuits No general maintenance is required apart from replacement fuses in the event of a failure. Down light In the event that lamp replacement is necessary, remove the Down Light cover by unscrewing it and lower the reflector assembly carefully. Remove and replace the lamp. Note - Care should be taken with lamp replacement to ensure that the fingers do not come in contact with the glass of the lamp
