When power needs reduce and the unit is charged the generator is turned off reverting to silent emission free power delivery. 3 Depending on conditions, reductions in fuel consumption and emissions can be as high as 80% with further advantages in reduced servicing costs and longer generator life. Used on it s own, where circumstances allow, MHP eliminates the need for a generator altogether to provide reliable power entirely free of emissions and noise. CASE STUDY - Camfil Farr Clean Air Roadshow The Clean Air Roadshow was demonstrating air filtration systems as used in large corporate buildings. The load was made up of lighting, AV systems and several powerful 3-phase ventilation fans. A base load of about 1.5kW was punctuated by short periods of much higher power demand (up to 30kW) when the fans were being demonstrated. MHP was used in a 15kW 3-phase configuration together with a 20kVA generator replacing the 40kVA set that would otherwise have been used. Compared to running a 40kVA set for the duration of the event, the 20kVA set ran for only 12 hours out of 48 reducing run time by 75%. Over this short deployment fuel consumption was reduced to less than 79 litres with CO 2 emissions of just 209Kg s. This is compared to an estimated 528 litres and 1,113Kg s CO 2. Extrapolated over a week that would represent savings of 1,500 litres of diesel and 3 tonnes of CO 2. At present fuel prices, the cost of the MHP unit would be recovered within 5 months on fuel savings alone.

At a number of the chosen venues no mains power was available but the idea of running a generator was inappropriate. The event organisers chose MHP as the power source. Loads consisted of lighting, AV systems and charge units for vehicles. The load represented a modest average of about 1.5kW. In this case MHP was supplied together with a 750Wp solar PV kit. With each event covering 3 days, the MHP 830/8 unit with solar PV was able to cover the entire period on a single charge that cost less than 2 - Zero noise, Zero emissions.

6 MHP has another feature that helps to further improve fuel efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions. The unit is able to work in tandem with a generator (or other alternative AC power source) and temporarily assist the generator by borrowing energy from the battery. This enables the generator to be downsized to a set that has lower fuel consumption. Working together, a 15kVA generator and 10kVA MHP unit can provide 25kVA of power with a maximum of 35kVA for the purposes of starting compressor motors or other high start demand inductive loads.
