14 Ground Fire Acquisition System Description: Current Path: Detects, Classifies & Locates Weapon Fires in Real-Time Detects ball, tracer, and RPG rounds out to max effective range of detected weapon systems Uses 6 Weapons Watch cameras mounted in a pod on wingtips Integrated via AGP into cockpit MPDs - no aircraft software changes required - Threat Prioritization - Weapon and Sight Cueing - CAQ selection / TGT Store - AFAPD target hand-off Components: Will field a 24 Shipset QRC (1-101) to do an operational assessment of the technology If successful, the system will become an ECP to the current target detection and engagement system GFAS also serves as risk reduction for Block III CDAS by incorporating additional sensor inputs for crew SA Deliveries scheduled to begin in Mar 12 CONOPS: Provides useful SA for tactical decision making GFAS data can be posted to BFT Improves crew s ability to support ground forces (CCAs, convoy security) by detecting/locating enemy forces Enables rapid acquisition of ground fire, reducing the time required to neutralize ground threats Threat symbols will be displayed on the MPDs with options for: - Multiple symbols (one for small arms, one for larger guns, one for RPG, one for mortars, etc. - Voice warning - Customized filtering (i.e. only display threats within 3 km of ownship or only display certain threats) 14 14
