2 Introduction The pressing of beet pulp after the extraction stage, comprises a phase of energy recovery and production optimization really important in the manufacture of sugar, generating secondary products (pellets for animals) and re-feeding the extraction with the press water obtained in the pressing process. 7 Production capacity. Its equivalent in tons/beet per day is determined by the volume of pulp. If the pulp contents more or less cellulose material (marc of the beet) as well as other insoluble substances, the capacity of the Press will be correspondingly lower or higher, without changing the Press characteristics. If the pressing conditions are progressively more favorable, the greater ratio of dry substance obtained also represents an increase on production. 8 x TM3000 Acor Sugar Factory (Spain) Pulp residence time inside the Press. Reducing the r.p.m. of the press screws (thereby giving increased pulp residence time inside the Press) increases the pressed pulp % dry substance. Current presses tend to be of higher capacity without increasing the compression ratio, trying to increase the residence time of the pulp inside the press by reducing the screws r.p.m. with larger units, which can allow big variations in r.p.m. of the screws. other configurations can be accommodated according to the needs of each sugar factory, and the number of existing presses available.
