3 Introduction Welcome to LESER With more than 600 employees, LESER is the largest manufacturer of safety valves in Europe and a leader in its market worldwide. LESER safety valves are developed and tested for the international market in our certified test lab at our headquarters in Hamburg, Germany. Valve production, with a capacity of over 130,000 valves per year, takes place at our modern factory in Hohenwestedt, Germany. Eight subsidiaries in Europe, America, the Middle East and Asia as well as trained contact partners in over 80 countries ensure competent customer consulting services for all industrial applications. LESER has warehouses all over the world and can deliver valves within a few days. LESER s authorized service partners (LARCs) offer expert service and repair using original LESER spare parts. LESER safety valves protect people and the environment in the chemical, petrochemical, technical gases, oil and gas production and engineering branches as well as in the food and pharmaceutical industries. Additionally, FAINGER LESER in India produces safety valves for the local market. This document can list only some of the LESER references in the various industries. 42 Solutions in detail API Alloy Concept: Additional materials for API Series 526 General information In order to be able to even better serve the oil and gas market, LESER offers a wide material range for the API series 526. Especially in Middle East, in Asia and in South America there are more and more material required made of duplex and nickel-based alloys. To enable the shortest delivery times, LESER has created a simplified ordering process through standardisation. A specialized European cast supplier who assures shorter delivery times than before was chosen for most of the production of the valve type bodies. With the selection of the new supplier the availability of Duplex, Super Duplex and nickel-based materials has improved, which can now also be delivered in short time. 43 Solutions in detail Non-upright mounting position: Space-saving installation General information Most international standards for safety valves specify an upright position for installation of spring loaded safety valves, e.g. ASME Sec. VIII, ISO , API 520 or AD 2000-Merkblatt A2. Some applications require an installation in the non-upright position e.g., because of space limitations. Therefore, all codes have applicable statements. LESER product solution LESER confirms that it is possible to install all LESER spring loaded safety valves in a non-upright position under following conditions: sufficient drainage is provided to prevent medium or condensate from parts which are important for the function of the safety valve, e.g. outlet facing downwards when installed horizontally minimum set pressure: 3 bar (45psig) unless the proper operation is confirmed by operating experience or tested at LESER test labs preventive maintenance ensures proper function of the safety valve, e.g. free drainage is checked periodically The following LESER safety valves are type test approved and certified in the VdTUEV type test approval for installation in nonupright position. 44 Solutions in detail Urea Synthesis Design General information In the fertilizer industry and especially the Urea industry, components such as safety valves have to withstand severe production conditions like high pressures, high temperatures and corrosive media. High on-stream times are main targets of plant operators. Reliable technologies, equipment and machinery are a pre-condition to guarantee the expected plant capabilities. Safety valves are used for protection of the main sections in Urea plants like Ammonia and CO 2-supply, synthesis section, recirculation section and also for secondary steam and cooling water supply. In Urea high pressure synthesis sections CO 2 and NH 3 react to carbamate, which is an intermediate in the Urea production. Carbamate is highly corrosive and can easily crystallise: these are the key challenges for a proper design and application of the right materials of construction. LESER product solution Special stainless steel grades such as 316L Urea Grade or UNS S31050 are used for the highly corrosive carbamate at high pressures (up to 200 bar / 2900 psig) and high temperatures (up to 200 C / 392 F). Regular servicing the traditional design safety valves has been the common strategy to realise as much as possible a reliable operation. Plant operators target to extend the time between servicing and reduce the failure probability. The LESER safety valve design has a steam purging feature. LESER has already in melamine plants more than ten years experience with steam purging design of safety valve to avoid the crystallisation. This was the basis for the innovative steam purging design for Urea synthesis protection system. For other sections of the Urea plant and for the ammonia plant, LESER has also available different application-specific safety valve designs. 46 Solutions in detail Concentrating Solar Power Plants (CSP) Design General information Concentrating solar power plants use the sun as an energy source. In the solar collector field, mirrors are used to heat up heat transfer oil in so-called absorber tubes. Safety valves protect the tubes from thermal expansion. Heat exchangers, turbines and thermal storage systems (when applicable) are also protected from overpressure and unexpected disruptions. In this way, safety valves are deployed for all areas of concentrated solar power generation.
