Barrus has a wealth of experience in custom building engines for specific end-uses, including the RNLI, MoD Navy, MoD rmy, MoD Special Forces, HM Coastguard and most other professional users. The same exacting standards demanded by these organisations are built into every Shire engine. ll our engines are CE Certified Features & Benefits Faster Domestic Water Warm-Up The Shire engine is the only engine fitted with built-in twin thermostats capable of delivering hot water faster and maintaining the temperature as long as required. Maximum Electrical Power Barrus were the first company to supply twin alternators as standard. Twin alternators ensure the start battery and domestic batteries are rapidly charged and on separate circuits. High Torque Levels ll models have high torque at low speed and are RCD II (Recreational Craft Directive) emission compliant. Effect Electrical Power specially designed 3 volt alternator can power domestic appliances including microwave, cooker, washing machine, computers or hi-fi.

Clean Fuel The addition of a fuel pre-filter and water drain provides the highest quality filtration system and ensures factory quality levels are maintained throughout the installation. Corrosion Protection ll castings and water pipes are black E coated for extra adhesion and corrosion resistance. E coating is far superior to paint in marine applications and is used by Rolls Royce and other MoD contractors. Other manufacturers avoid using E coating as it is an expensive process. Easy Servicing The sump drain pump makes it as easy as possible to drain the oil and maintain the engine. On the Shire 5, 7 and 9 there is also a gearbox drain pump fitted. Peace of Mind There is a five-year warranty on major engine components, one year on alternators, electrical components and accessories and three years or hours on all other components. 3

22 Shire Hybrid This parallel hybrid system can be fitted to a vessel during its initial construction or retrofitted to an existing diesel installation. The hybrid system does not disturb the normal shaft / propeller connection to the diesel, instead as the name implies it connects to the shaft in parallel with the standard diesel engine. Hybrid systems have the most to offer in efficiency improvements during low to mid power cruising and our system makes the best use of this basic principle. The standard diesel engine is sized to provide the maximum power requirement for the vessel, while the electric drive is designed to match the boats mid range power needs. This allows the electric drive components to be smaller and provides a very cost effective hybrid solution. This would not only allow the Rose to continue to operate reliably for another + years but would also provide an opportunity for several other modifications that could simplify the maintenance programme for the willing volunteers who care for both the engine and boat. The Rose undertakes over public trips each year, including both scheduled cruises and charters, and carries over 6 passengers a year.
