4 INSPEC Test Report No: Page 4 of Materials and construction Materials All samples were assessed. a) Manufacturer to certify whether or not, within the lifetime of use of the ear-plugs, the materials are known to be likely to cause skin irritation, skin disorders, allergic reactions or any other adverse effects to health. There were no adverse comments made during laboratory and wearer tests. b) Manufacturer to certify whether or not, within the lifetime of use of the ear-plugs, contact with sweat, ear wax or other materials likely to be found in the ear canal would result in significant alteration to those properties of the ear-plugs assessed for compliance with Clauses 4.2 and 4.3. Following wearer tests there was no visible effect on the materials that would lead to alteration in the properties of the ear-plugs as regards compliance with Clauses 4.2 and Construction All samples were assessed The design of the ear-plugs was such that they were not liable to cause physical damage to the wearer when fitted and used in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions The construction of the ear-plug was such that mechanical contact with any part of the ear plug protruding outside the ear canal was unlikely to cause injury to the ear, when fitted in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions When inserted in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, the ear-plugs were capable of being readily and completely removed from the ear canal by the user without the use of tools or instruments. Assessment was made from observations arising during the course of testing performed in accordance with Clause Each pair of ear-plugs was supplied in re-closable packaging. Manufacturer to certify that the packaging is suitable to ensure hygienic storage between use Resistance to damage when dropped at low temperature All samples were assessed. When tested, the ear-plugs did not crack nor did any part become detached Cleaning and disinfection All samples were assessed. Each pair of ear-plugs was cleaned and disinfected once, in accordance with the manufacturers instructions. a) The ear-plugs displayed no significant alteration to their initial properties assessed in Clauses 4.1 and 4.2. b) The ear-plugs displayed no changes which would be expected to cause significant alteration to their attenuation characteristics Ignitability Samples 31 to 34 were assessed. No part of the ear-plugs ignited upon application of the heated rod or continued to glow after its removal.

Markings were not provided on the ear-plugs / smallest quantity packaging. 6 Information supplied by the manufacturer 6.1 General The instructions to users have been assessed as detailed below, with reference only to the relevant requirements of the Standard. INSPEC Testing Services has not assessed these instructions with respect to claims made by the manufacturer outside of these requirements, and therefore accepts no responsibility for the legitimacy of any such claims. All samples were assessed. The supplied user information was provided in the English language. Manufacturer to certify whether the information provided in accordance with 6.2 and 6.3 is in the official language of the European state of destination. 6.2 Wearer information Information was not provided with the ear-plugs / smallest quantity packaging, The manufacturer provided one copy of a document entitled INFORMATION FOR USERS, against which assessment was performed. a) Standard number was included. b) Manufacturer / authorised representative identification was included. c) Model designation was included. d) The statement indicating compliance with the optional +50 C and -20 C requirements was included. e) Not a banded ear-plug.
