2 Jason Say.. two things: a reminder about special fuel filters for Tier 2 and Tier 3 engines, and then a note on XL brakes. On the Tier 2 and Tier 3 Cummins Engines, we were (and still are) required to run a 2nd fuel filter with a lubricity enhancer. These series of engines used a fuel injection system that depended on the diesel to lubricate them. At the same time the EPA was requiring diesel to have less Sulphur, which is a lubricant, so that is why we were required to use the special filters. The Tier 2 engines are equipped with a Fleetguard FS20000 filter which is good for 250 hours or 6 months, the Tier 3 is equipped with a Fleetguard FS20022 filter which is good for 500 hours or 6 months. Both of theses filters have an enhancer that is activated by the diesel, so to get the most use you should replace them at the beginning of the season. The current XL brake caliper is bolted to the transfer case, the previous system was bolted to the Sno- Cat frame and that is what I m talking about today. As I said, this previous system was bolted to the frame and floated back and forth on a set of pins when the brakes were used, see below for photos. The pins are made out of aluminum so they do not rust, however with little activity they can build up corrosion or collect debris that prevents an even-easy slide, which in turn can keep the brake pad from releasing. We suggest keeping the pins clean and applying a little bit of anti-seize, do not use grease because we do not want it near the brake pads. Below is an example of what 3-D Printing can do, these photos show a top and bottom, side by side comparison. The left hand side of each photo shows the custom cutting and drilling we had to do to make this small plastic cover fit our application.
