2 Founding of Lagniappe Chapter Of the Antique Automobile Club of America A small group of antique car enthusiasts began meeting at City Shoe Service in Houma as the Lagniappe Antique Car Club. At the Spring Rally of AACA s Evangeline Chapter, Lagniappe member Louis Morrell, Jr. of Thibodaux approached Charlie Froehlich, then President of Louisiana Region, about becoming a chapter of AACA. Application was made in April and approved in October Lagniappe had become an official chapter of the Louisiana Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America. Charter officers were: Louis Morrell, Jr. of Thibodaux, President Claude Rolando of Houma, Vice President Susan Pizzolatto of Houma, Secretary (no one was listed as Treasurer on the application, but Thomas Schoonenberg was later listed in minutes of 2000) Three registered members of AACA signed the application as ready to adopt a charter. They were Pete Pizzolatto of Houma, Louis Morrell, Jr. of Schriever and August Lorio of New Orleans. Other AACA applicants signing the application for Charter were Louis Morrell III, Thomas Schoonenberg, Sr., Gary Labat, Sr., Claude Rolando, Sr. and Frank Duncan. About a year later, Louis Morrell, Jr. died and the chapter began to founder. Louisiana Region President Charlie Matthews called Gary Labat, Sr. about the crisis and organized a group of Region members to aid the young chapter. Gary was elected President, a recruitment campaign was initiated and the chapter began meeting at Creole Lanes. Gary eventually served for 5 years, providing stability and growth, firmly establishing Lagniappe Chapter. 1

3 Lagniappe Chapter Of the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) Mission The Lagniappe Chapter of AACA exists to provide a friendly, supportive array of activities for people interested in the history and preservation of antique automobiles in the Bayou Region of Louisiana. Vision We see a Lagniappe Car Club: providing dependable and attractive gathering of friends, with meal-centered monthly meetings that are well attended by members of all ages, where members can get information and assistance in restoring cars, that provides appealing, well promoted events outside the monthly meetings, that attends to family issues and concerns, that assists its community with charitable donations and support through display of its classic cars, that is known by citizens through the media and presence of classic cars at public events. Values Friendship Respect and support of family Knowledge and assistance with automobile restoration and care Group Meals Automobile related events and entertainment Charity Continuation of the hobby of automobile preservation Increased communication with other clubs Media and other promotions of the club/hobby Getting youth and people of all ages interested 2
