5 THE NEXT GENERATION OF INTAKE TECHNOLOGY The advanced ETI eliminates the need to detune an intake tube as it crosses the MAF sensor. The intake tube maintains the original diameter, resulting in more air flow to the throttle body, which can lead to much bigger horsepower and torque gains without the threat of check-engine lights. Most modern fuel injected cars use a Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor to determine the air flow rate into the engine and meter fuel according to input from the sensor. The relation between the voltage output of the sensor and mass air flow is adversely affected by a shift to a larger diameter intake tube because the airspeed is reduced. This can cause the MAF sensor to under report air flow, creating a lean condition or triggering a Check Engine Light. To accommodate MAF sensor reporting, many intake systems reduce the diameter of the intake tube near the MAF sensor to stock or near stock size because of the need to maintain the correct air speed for the sensor to report the correct flow rate to the ECU. AEM's ETI Systems use an alternative design approach that allows the intake tube to maintain its diameter, resulting in more air flow into the throttle body. The ETI allows AEM to tune an engine for even more power by avoiding any tube down-sizing that will reduce overall air flow and horsepower. Instead, the ETI electronically communicates with the MAF sensor to ensure an accurate amount of fuel is being delivered even though the tube is larger in size than the stock system. This means the vehicle maintains the calibration as intended by the factory while enjoying the benefits of our custom designed aftermarket intake system. 8 At AEM, we take the design and engineering of our products beyond levels typical in the automotive aftermarket. Since 2003, AEM has manufactured performance parts for many Original Equipment Manufacturers. Our experience in providing OEM s with performance products has allowed us to raise the bar with respect to stringent design, quality and performance requirements. The demanding validation processes used by these OEM s has been integrated into the manufacturing of other AEM performance products. Our engineers incorporate advanced equipment and software during the development of our intake systems. We use CAD software, Solidworks, CFD modeling, Dimension 3D Printing, and Faro Coordinate measuring machines to create intake systems that are on the cutting edge of design. AEM product designs are put through rigorous testing and validation requirements such as vibration testing, cyclic thermal ranging from -40 F to +250 F, air filter efficiency testing using the ISO 5011:2000 test protocol, air flow testing using a SuperFlow 1020SB flow bench, ETI calibration, MAF voltage transfer functions, and full dyno testing on our in-house dynamometers. Our dynos are used to verify power gains and to test various lengths and diameters of the intake duct that will meet our stringent performance standards. Performance requirements verified and monitored on our dyno include Air Fuel Ratio (AFR), ignition timing, Inlet Air Temperature (IAT), Coolant Temperature (CLT), Mass Air Flow (MAF), Mass Air Flow Volts (MAFV), and Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP). In addition, both short and long term fuel trims are identified and managed to ensure we are creating a bolt-on performance piece that will work with your engine to create power and prevent check engine lights. Power gains displayed by AEM are extensively tested. We obtain results from multiple dyno runs on multiple vehicles in an attempt to achieve repeatable results that you can rely on. 9 DIGITAL WIDEBAND AIR/FUEL GAUGE A wideband UEGO sensor controller accurately monitors Air/Fuel Ratios (AFR) during the tuning process to prevent a lean fuel mixture, which could lead to engine damage. AEM has combined its single-channel wideband UEGO controller and gauge display into one unit, combining outstanding AFR accuracy and control with an easy-to-read interface. AEM s Gauge-Type Wideband UEGO Controller features a digital LED display and sweeping LED needle that changes colors as AFR changes from rich to lean. The unit s 52mm (2-1/16 ) gauge housing fits in most gauge pods and can be remotely mounted virtually anywhere. 10 COLD AIR INTAKE SYSTEMS + AEM pioneered the Cold Air Induction System for sport compact cars in A Cold Air Intake System relocates the filter outside of the engine compartment to deliver cool air inlet temperatures. Cooler air carries more oxygen, which translates into a more intense explosion in the combustion chamber to create more horsepower and torque. But that's only part of the power equation. 11 SHORT RAM AIR INTAKE SYSTEMS AEM Short Ram Intake Systems are an economical alternative to our cold air systems and deliver performance, value and ease of installation. During the development process, we found that certain applications respond favorably to shorter inlet lengths over our longer cold air designs. For these applications, we offer a short ram system only. DUAL CHAMBER AIR INTAKE SYSTEMS Dual Chamber Inner Tube These air intake systems use a patented dual chamber design that significantly increases horsepower and torque - typically producing even more power than our own cold air intake systems. + Horsepower 18 Torque Acura RSX Type-S 2.0L L4 # C These systems utilizes a dual chamber design using two different diameters and lengths of piping to create multiple frequency sound waves that help charge the cylinders with more air and more power. We have found that inlet length plays a vital role in the power production of Dual Chamber Intake Systems and, therefore, the air filter is not always relocated outside of the engine compartment as with a cold air intake system. HYBRID AIR INTAKE SYSTEMS AEM Hybrid Intake Systems are direct-fit intakes for Hondas and Acuras with engine swaps, and eliminate the need to buy a system that doesn't fit and have to cut it up, which may void the warranty. Our Hybrid Intake Systems install using standard tools with no additional modifications. 51 D R Y F L O W T M A I R F I LT E R C L E A N I N G I N S T R U C T I O N S STEP 1: REMOVE FILTER Remove the air filter from the intake pipe, the OE airbox, or the custom assembly. Handling carefully, lightly tap off all loose dirt and debris. STEP 2: APPLY CLEANER Liberally spray AEM Dryflow TM cleaner onto both sides of the filter, with the majority of it applied to the dirty side. Allow to soak in for 10 minutes. Do not allow it to dry on the air filter. STEP 3: RINSE FILTER Rinse off the filter element with cool or warm (not hot) water from the clean side out in order to flush the dirt out of the filter. It may be necessary to use your fingers on the hose, to apply light water pressure. Repeat steps 2 and 3, until the water flowing through the media is completely clear of any dirt and debris. STEP 4: DRY AND RE-INSTALL FILTER After rinsing, gently shake off excessive water and allow to dry naturally. Do not use forced air or heat to dry filter. Re-install the filter onto the intake system or into the airbox once it is dry. Follow all original installation instructions. A E M L I F E T I M E WA R R A N T Y P O L I C Y AEM warrants that its Air Intake Systems and Dryflow TM Air Filters will last for the life of your vehicle. AEM will not honor this warranty due to mechanical damage (i.e. improper installation or fitment), damage from misuse, accidents or flying debris. On air intakes AEM will not warrant its powder coating if the finish has been cleaned with a hydrocarbon-based solvent. The powder coating should only be cleaned with a mild soap and water solution. Proof of purchase of both the vehicle and AEM part is required for redemption of a warranty claim. This warranty is limited to the repair or replacement of the AEM part. In no event shall this warranty exceed the original purchase price of the AEM part nor shall AEM be responsible for special, incidental or consequential damages or cost incurred due to the failure of this product. Warranty claims to AEM must be transportation prepaid and accompanied with dated proof of purchase. This warranty applies only to the original purchaser of product and is non-transferable. Improper use or installation, use for racing, accident, abuse, unauthorized repairs or alterations voids this warranty. AEM disclaims any liability for consequential damages due to breach of any written or implied warranty on all products manufactured by AEM. Warranty returns will only be accepted by AEM when accompanied by a valid Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number. Credit for defective products will be issued pending inspection.
