1 SECTION PART 1 - GENERAL HVAC WATER PIPING ACCESSORIES 1.01 RELATED DOCUMENTS 1.02 SCOPE A. The requirements of the General Conditions, Supplementary Conditions, Division 1, Division 20, and Drawings apply to all Work herein. B. Requirements of the following Division Sections apply to this section: 1. Scope of Work - Section Design Criteria - Section Basic Division Requirements - Section Schedule of Submittal Data - Section General Division Materials and Methods - Section Start-up, Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing - Section A. General: Furnish and install HVAC water piping system accessories as specified herein and as shown on the Drawings. B. Types: Provide accessories of the following types: 1. Thermometers 2. Gauges 3. Pressure/Temperature Test Plugs 4. Valves 5. Pressure Reducing Valves 6. Suction Diffusers 7. Strainers 8. Pressure Relief Valves 9. Balancing Kits 10. Auxiliary Drain Pans and Drain Lines C. Related Sections: Other Division Sections contain requirements related to the work of this Section. These may include, but not be limited to, the following sections: PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.01 THERMOMETERS 1. Thermal Insulation - Section HVAC Water Piping - Section A. Furnish and install thermometers and thermometer wells for the following: 1. Chilled water supply to each air handling unit chilled water coil. 2. Chilled water return from each air handling unit chilled water coil. 3. Where shown on the Drawings. B. Thermometers shall be Moeller Instruments Company Style AJ, or approved equal, with a minimum 9" scale length and minimum 2 o F scale divisions. 2 adjustable angle, hinge assembly type with red appearing triple distilled mercury column. Scale shall have white background with black scale, heat stamped, and permanently embossed. Case shall be extruded aluminum with powder-coated finish. Phenol or other plastics are unacceptable case materials. Lens shall be Plexiglas or double strength glass. Stems shall be aluminum with well connections. Bulb chamber shall be a rounded bevel union seat to provide maximum sensitivity. Temperature ranges shall be o F for chilled and condenser water, and o F for heating hot water. C. Thermometer wells shall be brass or stainless steel with pressure and temperature ratings suitable for their application. Wells for insulated piping shall have a 2-1/2" lagging protrusion and all wells shall be filled with silicon and be provided with a cap and chain. D. Thermometers manufactured by Moeller Instrument Company, Trerice, or Weksler will be acceptable if they comply with these specifications GAUGES A. Furnish and install gauges for the following: 1. Entering water side of each air handling unit chilled water coil. 2. Leaving water side of each air handling unit chilled water coil. 3. Where shown on the Drawings. B. Gauges shall be Moeller Instrument Company Vantage Series, or approved equal, Case Style No. 2 with 4-1/2" dial face, 1/4" IPS connection, bourdon tube type, phosphor bronze soldered to brass socket and tip. Case shall be cast aluminum with black powder coated finish and stainless steel ring. Pointer shall be adjustable. Movement shall be stainless steel or bronze bushed and gear operated. Accuracy shall be 1% of full scale over middle half of range. Window shall be glass. Dials shall be white with black markings, heat stamped, and permanently embossed. Provide Moeller or an approved equal needle valve, suitable for the pressure and temperature rating of the system. C. Pressure gauges installed outdoors shall be bourdon tube type, 316 stained steel tube and socket. Cases to be 304, stainless steel, 4" minimum face, dry, glycerin or silicone filled. Pointer to be micrometer type adjustable. Movement shall be stainless steel. Accuracy shall be 1% of full scale. Window shall be glass. Gauge shall have a pressure relief plug. D. Differential pressure gauges for strainers shall be Orange Research Series 1201 with 0-5 psid range. E. Provide Trerice Series 870 or approved equal Moeller or Weksler impulse dampeners inline between all gauge valves and pressure gauges. Provide Trerice Series 855 or approved equal Moeller or Weksler coil siphons between gauge valves and impulse dampers on all steam pressure gauges. F. Provide gauges with ranges and intervals appropriate to pressure conditions at the point of application. G. Gauges manufactured by Moeller Instrument Company, Trerice, or Weksler will be acceptable if they comply with these specifications PRESSURE/TEMPERATURE TEST PLUGS A. Provide pressure and temperature test plugs at the supply, bypass, and return connections to all coils (in addition to all other thermometers and wells specified) and as R / MHMP Level 29 Oncology Clinic HVAC WATER PIPING ACCESSORIES
3 indicated on the Drawings. Test plugs shall be Peterson Engineering Pete's Plug, 1/2" NPT, brass with Nordel core, Model 710. In addition, the Contractor shall supply the Owner with four pressure gauge adapters with 1/8" O.D. probe and four 5" stem pocket testing thermometers: Two o F, and two o F. B. If it complies with these Specifications, pressure temperature test plugs manufactured by Peterson Engineering, Sisco, MG Piping Products Company, or Texas Fairfax Company will be acceptable VALVES A. Ball and butterfly valves shall be used for isolation and throttling service on HVAC water systems. All valves shall be of non-blow-out construction. Where valves are installed in insulated piping, valves shall have stem extensions. All valves more than 8' above the floor shall be gear operated with chain operators. B. Ball valves 2" and smaller shall be two or three piece body bronze or brass valves of a full port design. Valves shall be rated for 600 psi WOG and shall conform to Federal Specification WW-V-35B. Valves to be: 1. Appollo No Series 2. Nibco No. T KITZ No Red and White No. 5044A 5. Victaulic Style Stockham No. S206-BR-R-T 7. Anvil Gruvlok Series 7500 C. Butterfly valves 2-½" and larger shall be ductile iron lug body, molded-in EPDM (EPT) seat, aluminum bronze disc, 400 series stainless steel upper and lower stems (stems shall be positively connected to the valve disc), EPDM stem seals, lever operators on valves 5" and smaller, and gear operators with wheel for valves 6" and larger. Lever operators shall have memory stops and gear operators shall have waterproof, enclosed, factory worm gear operators with mechanical stops. All valves more than 8' above the floor (except where concealed above ceilings) shall be gear operated with chain operators. Butterfly valves shall be certified bubble-tight with bi-directional dead-end service without need of downstream flange and shall be listed by the manufacturer for continuous throttling service. Valves shall be: 1. KITZ No. 6122E 2. Keystone No Demco No. NE * 4. Stockham No. LD311-DS3-B 5. Victaulic VIC Nibco LD Anvil Gruvlok Series Grinnell Series 1000 *Indicates type of valve operators (see above requirements). D. Silent check valves shall be used on HVAC water systems. Silent check valves 2-1/2" and larger shall be non-slam globe type iron body, bronze fitted full lug or flanged body style spring check valves with renewable seats and discs. 4 2. Nibco F-910-B 3. Anvil Gruvlok Series PRESSURE REDUCING VALVE A. The pressure reducing and pressure sustaining valve shall be installed where shown on the drawings. The valve is a single seated, hydraulically-operated, pilot-controlled, diaphragm type globe valve. Valve body shall be cast iron ASTM-A48, main valve trim shall be 303 stainless steel, pilot controls shall be bronze ASTM B-61, pilot control trim shall be 303 stainless steel. The valve shall have adjustment pressure ranges of 15 to 75 psi downstream and 0 to 75 psi upstream. The valve shall be ASA Class 125 rated and shall be: 1. Cla-Val Model 92G SUCTION DIFFUSERS A. Pump Suction Diffusers shall be Taco Series 300, Bell & Gossett, Victaulic Model 731, or Anvil Gruvlok 7250 rated for 150 psi WOG or an approved equal and shall consist of an angle body with inlet vanes and a combination, 304 stainless steel diffuser strainer with 3/16" diameter openings. Flow direction shall be from inside the strainer to outside. The diffuser body shall fit the pump and connecting piping size and shall be provided with an adjustable support foot. Suction diffusers shall be factory drilled and tapped for field installation of a pressure gauge and gauge cock as shown on the drawings. A valve and cap shall be installed at the blowdown connection. B. A disposable fine mesh screen shall be installed in the strainer and shall be removed after the first 30 days of system operation. Strainers shall be cleaned after initial start-up, after 30 day of operation and at final acceptance STRAINERS A. Strainers shall be as manufactured by the Mueller Steam Specialty Company, Crane, McAlear, Anvil Gruvlok, Zurn, or Keckley. Strainers for 2" and smaller piping shall be Mueller No. 11,400 #WOG, iron body with perforated 20 mesh, 304 stainless steel screen with cleanout and screwed ends. Strainers for piping 2-1/2" and larger shall be Mueller No. 758, 150 # WOG, with perforated 304 stainless steel screen with 1/16" perforations for sizes through 4" and 5/32" perforations for sizes 5" and larger, with blowdown connection and Class 125 ANSI B16.1 flanges ends. A valve and cap shall be installed at the blowdown connection. Where pump suction diffusers with integral strainers are provided, separate strainers shall not be required. Strainers shall be cleaned after initial start-up, after thirty (30) days of operation and at final acceptance PRESSURE RELIEF VALVES A. Relief Valves: 1. Furnish and install relief valves where required and as indicated on the Drawings in all closed piping systems. Relief valve capacity shall be as required by the applicable code and as scheduled or as shown on the Drawings. 2. Relief valves shall be suitable for the working pressure and temperature of the system in which they are installed. Refer to Section , Design Criteria. 3. Inlet and outlet piping from the relief valve shall be at least the size of the valve connections unless otherwise indicated on the Drawings. 4. Liquid relief valves shall be direct spring-loaded type with a cast iron, bronze or steel body and stainless steel or bronze trim, lifting lever, and ASME Unfired R / MHMP Level 29 Oncology Clinic HVAC WATER PIPING ACCESSORIES
5 Pressure Vessel Code stamp. Valves shall be selected for a maximum overpressure of 10%. 5. If they comply with these Specifications, relief valves manufactured by Kunkel, Watts, or Consolidated will be acceptable PRESSURE REDUCING VALVES A. Pressure Reducing Valves shall be Watts, Cla-Val, or an approved equal. Watts No. U5LP for sizes to 2", No. 223S for 2-1/2"and 3" and No for 4" and larger. Pressure reducing valves shall be provided for all system fill connections and shall be selected and set for 10 psi above system static head at the fill point BALANCING KITS A. Automatic balancing hose kits shall be furnished and installed for each chilled water and heating hot water coil scheduled for 3 GPM or less. Hose kits shall be suitable for a pressure differential of 4 through 57 psi and a flow rate range of 1.0 through 10.0 GPM. B. Each automatic balancing hose kit shall consist of a return hose with a 3/4" bronze ball valve, a 3/4" automatic flow control valve with two P-T test plugs, a 3/4" x 24" long flexible stainless braided hose with 3/4" MPT brass swivel end and a supply hose with a 3/4" bronze Wye-strainer with built-in drain valve, a 3/4" x 24" long flexible stainless braided hose with 3/4" MEP brass swivel adapter. C. Hose kits shall meet flame retardant testing standards similar to UL No. 723, NFPA No. 255, ANS No. 3.5, UBC No and ASTM No. E84. The manufacturer shall provide independent laboratory tests verify compliance with these standards or UL listing and label for flame spread and smoke density. D. Automatic flow control valves shall automatically control flow rates with ±5% accuracy. Valve control mechanism shall consist of a passivated stainless steel cartridge with a ported cup, segmented orifices and full travel linear coil spring and ductile iron housing with 1/8" FPT taps for P.T. plugs. The hose inner tube shall be non-toxic synthetic polymer suitable for water temperatures from 5 o F to 230 o F. The tube shall have an outer covering of braided stainless steel. Y-Strainer-Bronze Body with stainless steel cylinder screen, 0.055" diameter holes. E. Minimum pressure and temperature rating of automatic hose balancing kits shall be 200 psig at 230 o F. F. Automatic balancing hose kits shall be as manufactured by Griswold Controls or approved equal AUXILIARY DRAIN PANS AND AUXILIARY DRAIN LINES A. Furnish and install 3" deep galvanized sheet metal auxiliary drain pans under any equipment where shown on the Drawings and under all horizontal air handling units, duct mounted chilled water coils, horizontal suspended fan coil units and suspended domestic water heaters located above ceilings. B. Drain pans shall be minimum 16 gauge galvanized steel with water tight soldered joints. Drain pans shall be at least 2" larger in each dimension than the equipment served and shall extend under control and isolation valves. Chain-suspend drain pans under equipment served. Pan shall have a welded coupling of the same size as the unit condensate drain (minimum 3/4" FPT). 6 C. Auxiliary drain lines shall be as specified hereinabove for drain piping but shall be uninsulated and shall be routed through the ceiling in "tell-tale" fashion above the nearest general use plumbing lavatory or janitors sink. An escutcheon shall be provided. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.01 SUBMITTALS A. Shop drawing submittals shall include, but not be limited to, the following: 1. Cut sheets marked to clearly indicate all piping system materials to be used. 2. Cut sheets clearly marked to show all HVAC piping accessories. 3. Valve samples as specified herein or requested. 4.
