1 CLASSIFICATIONS A Few Notes about AYC and H-31 The American oat and Yacht Council has recommended seating standards for the marine industry. These standards help classify pedestal applications into two separate categories. These are: CLASS A A Seat designed for occupancy while the boat is under way at any speed. CLASS Seat designed for occupancy only at boat speeds not exceeding five miles per hour. Within each of these classifications all pedestals must pass a series of tests, (horizontal and vertical impacts, torque and static load test). There are also two types of Class A seats. Those are: CLASS A PASSENGER AP Seat mount must resist 30 foot pounds of torque. CLASS A DRIVER AD Seat Mount must incorporate a mechanical interference lock and resist 150 foot pounds of torque.
