1 H & C SOLID STATE POWER CONTROLLERS ACL-series AC1-series AC3-series ACF3-series DAC3- series OPERATION This power controller is designed to regulate a resistive load by switching the load on and off in time proportioning bursts according to the incoming dc signal (Factory set 0-10Vdc). LOCATION Install power controller with heatsink fins in the vertical plane. Allow a minimum of 100mm clearance top and bottom. Control panels should have natural ventilation to run unit to specified kw rating. SAFETY It is essential to fit a safety device that will disconnect the mains supply from the Heat & Combustion controller in case the heating element overheats. This can be a suitable rated contactor. It is also recommended to fit suitably rated fuses at the switchboard. FUSES Some power controllers are fitted with ultra-fast fuses to protect the semiconductors. Replacements should be of exactly the same type and should be purchased via your supplier. External fuses may be fitted where not provided. CYCLE TIME Cycle time can be manually adjusted by pot located on the internal control board from 3 to 40 seconds. Factory set to 4 seconds. INPUT SIGNAL This power controller is fitted with a selectable dc input facility that has been pre-set to operate with a 0-10V dc input signal. For 4-20mA, 5/10V or 0-5V operation please contact your supplier for instructions. Note however that the AC1-3.5, 7 and AC3-10, -20 series are only 0-10V or 4-20mA (factory setting 0-10V). INSULATION TESTS Thyristors and indeed any semiconductor device are sensitive to voltage. It is therefore very important that insulation testing procedures are strictly adhered to. When insulation testing at any test voltage the semiconductor device (diode, thyristor, transistor, MOSFET, IGBT etc.) must be isolated, by linking all the connections of the device together to form a short circuit. This will protect the device from damage due to over voltage. If additional information is required please contact Heat & Combustion Limited.

2 ACL1-3.5, -7 Remove cover. Please refer to wiring diagram. Connect line, neutral and load cables to the terminal block as indicated. Connect shorting link between inhibit terminals if system fan failure inhibit switch is not to be used. Control input as indicated ve to zero. AC1-3.5, -7 Please refer to wiring diagram. Connect line, neutral and load cables to the terminal block as indicated. For AC1-7, line and load to pillars (L-Yellow Load-Black). Note: neutral line to terminal need only be a low current wire. Connect control signal to 0V and I/P on the BF100 control board (+ve wire to I/P). AC1-9, -15, -28 Remove cover. Please refer to wiring diagram. Connect incoming line to the fuse terminal pillar (yellow dot) and outgoing Load) to M5 screw terminal on the thyristor module (Black dot). A low current neutral wire is required to LA on the BF500 control board. Connect control signal to 0V and I/P on the BF500 control board (+ve wire to I/P). ACL3-10 Remove cover. Please refer to wiring diagram. Connect control signal to 0V and I/P on the main control board (+ve wire to I/P). Connect shorting link between inhibit terminals if system fan failure inhibit switch is not to be used. AC3-20N, -28, -36, -57, -86, -92 Remove cover. Please refer to wiring diagram. Connect incoming lines 1 and 2 to the fuse end pillars (yellow dots) and load cables 1 and 2 to the respective M5 thyristor module terminals (black dots). Note lug fixing hole to be M5 and cable lug diameter to match the relevant cable size for the thyristor kw rating. Line in 3 to the stand-alone insulating pillar (yellow and black dot), also to carry the outgoing load 3. This pillar is provided for compliance to EN directives. Without line and load 3 connected the internal EMC filtering will not be effective. Connect control signal to 0V and I/P on the BF500 control board (+ve wire to I/P). Please note a 240Vac fan supply is required for the AC386 and AC3-92. AC3-107, -138, -172, -230 Remove cover. Please refer to wiring diagram. Connect incoming lines 1 and 2 to the fuse end pillars (yellow dots) and load cables 1 and 2 to the respective M8 thyristor module busbars (black dots). Note lug fixing hole to be M8 and cable lug diameter to match the relevant cable size for the thyristor kw rating. Connect control signal to 0V and I/P on the BF500 control board (+ve wire to I/P). Please note a 240Vac fan supply is required. DAC3-12, -18 The units mount directly to 35mm DIN-rail. They must be mounted horizontally and allowing a free flow of air through the heatsink. Adequate ventilation must be provided through the equipment cabinet. Allow 50mm minimum between units mounted one above the other and ensure that the maximum ambient temperature of 45 C within the enclosure is not exceeded for any unit. Fuse or MCB cable protection is required between the main supply and the unit. Due to the low thermal capacity of the semiconductor switching elements their protection cannot be guaranteed in the event of a major fault such as load/earth short. Units MUST BE ISOLATED FROM THE MAINS SUPPLY prior to carrying out any work.
