GENERAL INFORMATION Before using this fogging unit for the first time please carefully read these instructions to learn the correct method of assembly, use and maintenance of this product to ensure correct operation and safety in use. Thermal fogging units rely on the combustion of fuel and the generation of exhaust gasses into which a mixture of volatile solvent and product is injected to create a dense fog. As such great care must be taken when using this equipment to prevent the risk of fire or inappropriate use and only trained professionals should operate such equipment. All Micronair thermal foggers comply with EC Council Directive 2004/108/EC Electromagnetic Compatibility and are manufactured and certified in accordance with international standards for equipment of this type. 4 CERTIFICATE OF GUARANTEE MICRON SPRAYERS LTD guarantees to replace, at the company s expense, any defective materials or components that fail under conditions of normal use within a period of 1 year of purchase. The guarantee is invalidated if damage occurs because of incorrect transport or handling, or due to improper or incorrect assembly of components. ~2~

1. Operation The Micronair AR35E and AR9E models utilise the pulse jet principle where the air and fuel mixture from the carburettor are ignited in the combustion chamber and then expelled through the resonator tube. As the exhaust gasses are expelled cold air is drawn along the length of the resonator tube through the cooling jacket. The design of the resonator tube regulates the flow of exhaust gasses so they are discharged in a low frequency pulse. At the end of the resonator, a fogging solution is injected into the exhaust gasses and atomised into very small aerosol droplets (3-10um with oil and 20-35um with water mix) to create a thick fog. The temperature at the point of injection of the fogging solution is low, around degrees celcius and the exposure time only 4-5 milliseconds so ensuring active ingredients in the fog solution are not adversely affected by heat Oil Fig.1 1. fog tube 10. 8 5. Safety Instructions: Please read the instructions fully before using the thermal fogger. Thermal Foggers should ONLY be used by trained operators who are fully knowledgeable about the use of such machines. Ensure operating manual is kept with fogger at all times. Use the fogger only for the purpose it was designed for. The Thermal fogger is equipped with an electronic ignition coil that generates a high voltage spark. Ensure sensitive equipment is not affected before use. Before operation, make sure the appliance is correctly assembled with no visible damage or leaks at joints. When fogging, use recommended personal protective equipment (PPE) to include respiratory protection, protective gloves, eye protection, coverall and ear defenders. During operation, never leave the fogger unattended. When using the carrying strap ensure the strap is placed over one shoulder only and not across the body for quick removal. Do not fog in the presence of people or animals. Avoid fogging near combustible materials and take great care if fogging indoors to avoid fire hazards. Always carry the fogger with the fog tube pointing in the direction of the wind with the wind perpendicular to the direction of ravel. When carrying the fogger always hold the fogger with the fog tube inclined slightly downwards if possible. When fogging indoors always walk away from the fog emission towards the exit. ~6~

Follow the chemical supplier s instructions for safe use of the fog products. Never apply a pesticides, desinfectant or other products at application rates higher than the manufacturer s recommendation. When filling with fuel make sure the appliance is not hot. Always use a funnel to fill the fuel tank and take care to avoid spillage. Avoid contact with hot metal parts to prevent burns. After operation, allow time for the fogger to cool down before filling with fuel or undertaking any adjustments or maintenance. Do not transport the fogger in a vehicle while still hot. Do not fog combustible liquids into areas without ventilation to avoid fire risk. Always keep a fire extinguisher to hand when working with combustible materials. Never smoke when using fogger. Avoid fogging near any naked flame. Do not fog where there is a danger of dust explosion (e.g. grain mills). Always keep the fogger upright with the fog tube horizontal to avoid fuel or fog solution spillage. When fogging in open spaces it may be necessary to fog with the tube inclined upwards for periods. If so always return fogger to upright postion after use. Never transport the fogger with fuel or fog solution in the tanks. Do not fog directly against walls or other fixed objects. Keep a minimum distance of 3m. For stationary operation, ensure fogger is securely mounted on flat surface. Always replace guarding after maintenance or repairs. Never modify the fogger. ~7~

6. Preparation of Fogger For Use: The appliance comes packed in a cardboard box. Check that it is in undamaged condition after removing it from the box. It is only for packing purposes that the fog tube is not fitted.! To avoid overheating the appliance, start the appliance ONLY after the fog tube is fitted (Fig. 2 & 3) with the resonator. The fog tube is reversible according to whether you will use oil or water mixtures. It is important to position the fog tube correctly for the type of mixture used to avoid over heating. To install the Fog Tube: 1) Pull out the fog tube (108) from the cooling jacket, select appropriate connection (oil-base or water base) and push back the fog tube into the cooling jacket, allowing the tube hole to align with the resonator thread (101). (Fig. 2) Water Oil Oil Fig.2 2) Screw the connector (114) through the fog tube into the resonator and secure by spanner. Fit the metering Metering nozzle (117) through the connecting banjo fitting with valve housing (33) and copper gasket washers (118) between the joints. It is necessary to use two spanners when securing THE banjo assembly Fig.3 3) It is necessary to use two spanners when securing teh banjo assembly to the hexagon connector (Fig. 3) Insert batteries as per diagram. The positive pole is situated in front of the fuel tank (10) and the negative pole on the battery cover (71). (Fig. 4) For better performance, use Alkaline batteries Fig.4 ~8~

4) Check ignition coil by pressing starter button (78). A buzzing sound should be audible. (Fig. 5) 78 Fig.5 5) Fill fuel tank with normal grade gasoline, without any additives. There is no advantage to use premium fuel with a higher octane rating. Always use funnel(144) with filter. (Fig. 6) 144! Never fill the fuel tank when the appliance is hot. Fig.6 6) After filling, tighten fuel cap (7) firmly by hand. Push in stop button (52) of fuel control fully to stop position. (Fig. 7) 52 7 Fig.7 ~9~

7) Fill solution tank (1). Always use solution funnel (143) with filter. (Fig. 8) Only prepare sufficiant fogging mixture as required. 143! NEVER put fuel into the fog solution tank (1). 1 Fig.8 8) Fit fog solution tank cap (2) securely. Make sure that flow tap (120) is closed. Lever pointing upwards. (Fig. 9) Fig.9 9) Make sure the carburettor diaphragm air intake (30) and spark plug (26) are secure. (Fig. 10) Fig.10 ~10~

7. Selection of Orifice restrictor Metering nozzle (measured with water). nozzle size Ø Flow L/Hr, approx The flow rate will vary according to viscosty of the fog mixture. Always check calibration with the ACTUAL fog mixture to be used. For water based solutions choose nozzles up to Ø1.0 mm. Use fog tube in position marked for Water to improve performance For oil based solutions we recommend nozzle sizes Ø 0.8 and above. Use fog tube in position marked OIL. Smaller nozzles reduce the droplet size. Larger nozzles with excessive flow rates will increase droplet size.! Never operate the fogger with the WATER position fitted when using oil based based fogging mixtures as this can lead to over heating and potential fire risk. ~11~

8. Preparation of Fogging Mixture: Typically to generate a thick fog of very small particles it is necessary to use a carrier oil into which the product to be applied is mixed. Kerosene is generally used as a diluent for the application of oil based products or ULV (Ultra Low Volume) fogs. For water miscible products a 10% glycol mix in water is used as an alternative to generate a thick fog but some applications are made with water only as the diluent for mixing. In this case particle sizes are slightly larger and the fog less visible. Products that are applied as fogs include insecticides for the control of flies or mosquito s or other insects, wood preservatives, biocides for disinfection / fumigation and other products that are required to be applied as a fog. Typical diluents are: for preparations miscible with water: 1. water 2. water with the addition of glycerin, glycols for preparations miscible with oil: 5. diesel oil, heating oil or kerosene 6. white oils and vegetable oils of low viscosity 7. special fog carriers! CAUTION When fogging indoors, it is essential take precautions to prevent the risk of fire. These include, extinguishing all naked flames and turning off electricity. It is recommended that with oil-based formulations applied in kerosene not to apply more than 1 liter per 400m 3 as the fog can ignite if there is a spark or naked flame. Operators should always comply with the manufacturers recommendations on the product label. ~12~

9. Starting the Engine: 1) Pull stop button (52) outwards to open the fuel valve. (Fig. 11) 52 Fig.11 2) Press starter button (78) and hold while actuating the air pump to pressurise the fuel tank. Pump regularly and evenly until engine ignites with a low audible pulse note. When engine first ignites release starter button but pump another 1~2 strokes before stopping. The engine should run without further pumping. (Fig. 12) Fig.12 CLOSE 3) After starting, let the engine warm for about 1 minute. Then open the fuel tap (120) by turning the lever through 180 degrees. With the tap lever pointing down liquid will flow and fog will form - To stop fogging simply close the flow tap (120). (Fig. 13) Fig OPEN! The lower the fuel level in the tank, the greater will be the number of pumping strokes required to start the engine. When possible, always start with a full tank. Make sure that the fuel volume is sufficient for the intended period of fogging. Always check that the Emergency cut off valve is operating correctly - see section. 15 Emergency Cut Off Valve. ~13~

10. If the Fogger Stops Unexpectedly Take the following measures should the fogger stop unexpectedly. - Close the flow tap (120) immediately. This will prevent the fog solution being injected into the resonator. This is a precautionary measure as normally the emergency cut off valve will prevent liquid being injected without the fogger operating. If liquid were to be injected there is a risk of the combustible mixture coming into contact with the hot combustion resonator and combustion chamber and igniting accidently - hence why all AR9E and AR35E foggers are fitted with an emergency cut off valve. (Fig. 14) Fig Hold the appliance with the fog tube pointing downwards. This again is a precautinary measure to ensure any liquid does not leak back onto the hot resonator/combustion chamber. (Fig. 15)! NEVER leave the fogger unattended. Oil Fig.15 ~14~

11. To stop Fogging: 1) Close flow tap (120) by 1/4 turn to clear or ventilate the solution pipe (116). (Fig. 16) 116 Fig ) Wait until fog is no longer visible. Now close the flow tap (120) completely (lever upwards). (Fig. 17) 120 Fig.17 3) Press stop button (52) until no fogger stops pulsing. (Fig. 18) 52 Fig.18 4) Release pressure from fog solution tank by unscrewing the tank cap (2) by 1 to 2 turns then retighten the cap. (Fig. 19)! After fogging is stopped always release pressure from solution tank as this is still under partial pressure and liquid can flow if the flow tap is opened inadvertently. 2 Fig.19 ~15~

12. Adjustment of Fuel / Air Mix: Due to atmospheric differences particularly if foggers are used at altitiude it may on occassions be necessary to adjust the factory set fuel / air mixture. To do this, fill the fuel tank at least 2/3 full then proceed with the following steps: Turn regulating needle (17) approx. 1/2 counter clockwise then start the fogger. (Fig. 20) Allow the fogger to warm up for at least 1 minute. Check the flame at the resonator (101) end by viewing inside the resonator tube at a safe distance (approx. 3m) without any fog. 17! Wear safety glasses for eye protection. Fig.20 For fine adjustment, turn the regulating needle (17) clockwise or counter clockwise in small increments until the flame is no longer visible. (Fig. 21) When the adjustment is correct the engine pulse note is regular and their is no flame near the end of the resonator tube. 17! NEVER operate the fogger with too high a fuel mixture (high frequency pulse sound with flame exiting the fogging tube) as this causes power loss and overheating, and may lead to fire hazard. Fig.21 FUEL OVERFLOW INTO ENGINE : It is possible that by over vigorous pumping the fuel overflows from the carburettor and the fogger misfires as short flames exit the fog tube. If this occurs close fuel stop button (52), press the starter button (78) and actuate air pump (91) until no more mis firing is audible. Then restart as normal but do not pump as vigorously. 2-3 short pump strokes are usually sufficient. ~16~

13. Maintenance & Storage: To prepare the fogger for storage undertake the following: a) Rinse the fog solution tank with a suitable cleaning agent or diluent. Pour approx. 1/4L of cleaning fluid (water if using water miscible sprays) and fog to clear pipe system /1 b) Clean outside of fogger to remove any dirt c) Remove carburettor diaphragm (33) Check for any damage and clean. Also clean the valve body (34). the spacer plate (32) and the silencer (60) with a soft cloth. (Fig. 22) 34/ Fig. 22 d) Remove any carbon residue in resonator tube (101), connector (114), metering nozzle (117) and also the fog tube(108) with the scraper and the wire brush. (Fig. 23) 108 Oil 101 Fig ! It is important that any soot or carbon deposits at the end of the resonator tube are removed. ~17~

e) Clean fuel intake pipe of resonator (101) of carbon deposits using the scraper tube provided (141). (Fig. 24) Fig.24 f) Clean mixing chamber of the carburettor (24) with brush (142). Take care not to damage the fuel injection nozzle. (Fig. 25) 24 Fig.25 g) Clean spark plug with wire brush. (Fig. 26) Fig.26 h) Empty fuel tank (10) when the appliance is not in use. Leave the cap (7) loose to allow vapours to escape. (Fig. 27) 7 10 Fig.27 Remove the batteries from the appliance when it is stored for long periods.! Store fogger securely in a locked store. ~18~

14. Trouble Shooting: - Repairs should only be undertaken by trained and qualified personnel. - Only use original spare parts. - Before any maintenace or repair ensure fogger is not still hot. Allow at least 30 minutes cooling time bore attempting maintenance or repair. Always remove spark plug high tension lead from the spark plug when undertaking maintenance to avoid accidental ignition. - Remove batteries and discharge ignition coil before undertaking repairs. - After repair, reassemble all safety devices (protective guards and emergency cut off valve) and check all components are assembled correctly. - After repair it is necessary to check the fogger operation using a suitable fog solution of diluent or water. - It is recommended that you have the fogger checked regularly (every 50 hours) by a suitably qualified technician. PLEASE CONTACT YOUR LOCAL DISTRIBUTOR FOR ANY FURTHER TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE. ~19~

If Fogger does not start or runs unevenly Check first: - Are all tank caps (Fuel and fog Solution) closed and sealed without leakage of air? Check cap seals are clean and free of any debries. - Is there fuel in the fuel tank? - Check the orientation and condition of the batteries. - If there an audible buzz from the ignition coil when the starter button is depressed? If not replace batteries. - It may be necessary to adjust the cable and spring tension of the emergency cut-off device. Possible causes: Check: - no ignition - batteries weak or loose contact, starter button or ignition coil faulty, spark plug dirty or wet, mixing tube of resonator blocked with carbon deposits - no fuel supply - Fuel is insufficient - Blockage in fuel line from tank unscrew regulating needle (17), actuate air pump (91), fuel should appear - Check Fuel cap seals - water in the fuel - empty and clean fuel tank, refill with clean fuel - Fuel needle dirty or clogged - clean only with compressed air and petrol - Carburettor diaphragm - clean or replace as necessary damaged or dirty - carburettor dirty - clean the mixing chamber with brass brush supplied and petrol. Clean with compressed air - resonator tube dirty - remove carbon residues from tune and intake pipe with scraper and brass brush supplied. - Fuel / Air mixture incorrect - see para. (12) Fuel/Air mixture Adjustment ~20~

If the appliance runs but does not fog or fogs irregularly Check first: - Is there sufficient solution in the tank? - If the pressure hose is correctly installed? - If the solution conveying parts are blocked or leaked? Possible causes: Check: - no or insufficient pressure - solution tank leaks in solution tank (1) - check valve is clean or defective when replacing diaphragm (40), always replace it together with o-ring (41) and gasket (42) - connecting links (43) loose or damage when necessary, always replace it together with gasket (44) - pressure hose (133, 134/1, 134/2) leaks or damages - residue in double hollow screw (132), clean with fine wire if necessary - tank cap (2) leaks check gasket (4) and replace if necessary - flow tap (120) defective - the gaskets (125, 126) damage, replace or clogged it if necessary clean all parts of flow tap before re-assembly and check for leakage - meterting nozzle (117) clogged - clean with fine wire for free passage - fog solution socket (114) clogged - clean with fine wire for free passage ~21~

15. Emergency Cut-off The Micronair AR35E and AR9E models are equipped with an emergency cut-off device (ECO). This is a diaphragm operated valve that actuates a Bowden cable to close or open the flow of fogging solution to the injector nozzle according to whether the engine is operating or not. It is designed to prevent liquid flow when the engine has stopped. The cut off valve is pre-set during manufacture and should not require adjustment in normal operating conditions. If it is necessary to adjust the ECO then proceed as follows :. The fine adjustment of the Bowden Cable (EC23) can only be set when the engine is warm: Then with the engine stopped adjust the tension of the Bowden Cable (EC23) by tuning the screw-type nipple (EC25) inwards or outwards so that the spring tension on the lever is just sufficient to close the flow when the engine is stopped EC 25 EC 24 Fig.28 EC 23 To check Operation of the Emergency Cut off after adjustment 1) Start the engine and run for around 1 minute. The lever (EC13) should be held open automatically. Stop the engine and the lever should be released immediately stopping the flow of liquid.(fig. 29) Engage EC 13 Release Fig. 29 ~22~

2) Start the engine once more. Open Flow tap (120) and pull back the ECO lever to check fog is emmitted(fig. 30) 120 Engage EC 13 3) Stop the Engine and check that the lever returns to close liquid flow automatically (Fig. 31) Fig.30 OPEN 4) Check there are no leaks from the feed pipe adaptor or other joints (EC27), valve housing (EC33) or metering nozzle (114). (Fig. 32) EC13 Fig.31 Release Fig.32 Oil 114 EC27 EC33! When checking operation of Emergency cut off valve it is important to de-pressurise the fuel tank each time the engine is stopped by briefly opening the fuel tank lid. ~23~

16. Fogging with ECO - Engage the operating lever (EC13) and lock its position. - For fogging, open the flow tap (120), lever downwards. - To stop fogging with the ECO engaged, close the flow tap, lever upwards. (Fig. 33) EC 13 CLOSE OPEN 120 Engage Fig To Stop Flow with ECO: 1. To stop fogging, refer to para If the fogger stops unexpectedly due to a lack of fuel or other failure. - The ECO is released automatically and stops liquid flow. Loosen - Close the flow tap (120) completely (lever upwards) and release pressure from solution tank by loosening the tank cap (2). (Fig. 34) EC Close 2 Fig.34 ~24~

18. If Emergency cut off valve stops working: Check first: - Fogger runs correctly so there is sufficient air pressure to open ECO valve. Possible causes: - fogger stops, ECO lever does not release automatically Check: - incorrect setting of screw-type nipple (EC25) at the Bowden cable (EC23) - piston (EC8) is not pushed back into initial position. - spring (EC9) too weak or broken - the diaphragm (EC6) of the pressure cell is damaged or dirty - Fogger engine runs but lever can not engage - Fogger engine runs and lever engages but no fog - Liquid leaks out of screw housing (EC27) or valve housing (EC33) or connector (114) when fogger stops, operating lever releases and flow tap open. - incorrect setting of screw-type nipple (EC25) at the Bowden cable (EC23) - piston (EC8) is not pushed forward - spring (EC9) too strong - the diaphragm (EC6) of the pressure cell is damaged or dirty - Air leak of pressure in the ECO system - Blockage in air pressure tube (EC20) - incorrect setting of screw-type nipple (EC25) at the Bowden cable (EC23) - damage of Bowden cable (EC23) - Blockage of valve housing (EC33), metering nozzle(117) or connector (114) - Flow tap (120) not open - damage of o-ring (EC31) - damage of o-ring (EC32) - spring (EC28) too weak or broken ~25~
