2 DESCRIPTION The OMDB moving barrier is used to perform tests to determine the safety of occupants in the event of a side impact in compliance with the requirements of NHTSA. The test setup involves an OMDB moving barrier striking a stationary vehicle at 90km/h at a 15 angle with a 35% overlap against the front end of the vehicle. The moving deformable barrier is equipped with a hydraulic vehicle brake that prevents a secondary impact of the barrier and can also be used as an emergency braking system, for instance in case of a brake abort. 90 km/h, kg 35% overlap Figure 1: Test setup Page 2 / 6

4 HYDRAULIC BRAKE SYSTEM In order to decelerate the moving barrier in case of emergency and after the impact, a hydraulic brake system is installed which operates the four disk brakes. 5 There are two sockets available for connections: one 5-pin and one 10-pin LEMO socket. The 5-pin socket is used for power supply, for the brake when triggered via cable and to connect an external trigger contact (tape switch) to the brake unit.
