3 JOSLYN Underground Cable Accessories Terminations, Polymer Outdoor (JPT) and Indoor (JIPT) Joslyn, a leader in distribution and transmission terminations since the 1960 s, offers a complete line of polymer terminations available for 15kV, 25/28kV and 35kV voltage applications. The outdoor JPT (with sheds) and indoor JIPT (without sheds) are a cold shrink-type polymer termination for easy, rapid and reliable installation. All Joslyn JPT and JIPT polymer terminations meet or exceed all requirements of IEEE Standard for Class 1 terminations and are RUS listed. The polymer termination shrinks on the cable as the inner core is pulled out of the termination. No complicated assembly, no heat guns or torches required, no struggling with cable while trying to slip on. Simply pull the core and let the termination shrink tight for a void-free termination and a superior seal with no hang-ups. Silicone Polymer Housings The JPT and JIPT polymer terminations are manufactured using an optimized weathershed silicone formulation. The housing offers superior cable sealing and voltage withstand characteristics. Joslyn polymer terminations meet or exceed all requirements of IEEE Standard for Class 1 outdoor terminations. Unit tests include voltage withstand wet and dry, before and after load cycling on units installed on maximum conductor sized cable. Stress Relief The JPT and JIPT polymer terminations provide electric stress control for the cable by means of a flexible tube with a high permittivity dielectric constant. The stress relief tube is pre-assembled on the core under the polymer housing. As the core is removed, the stress relief tube and housing shrink onto the cable at the same time, in exactly the right position. No secondary operations are required during the installation. The electrical fields are refracted through the high dielectric constant tube and housing as shown. UD-3

4 Underground Cable Accessories JOSLYN Terminations, Polymer Outdoor (JPT) and Indoor (JIPT) (continued) Installation Standard cable preparation techniques are used for all JPT, Joslyn Polymer Terminations and JIPT, Joslyn Indoor Polymer Terminations. The Joslyn cold shrink terminations are assembled on a removable core. After the termination is inserted onto the prepared cable, the core is removed by pulling on the end. The housing then collapses onto the prepared cable. Memory of the material insures a void-free termination and a proper seal to prevent moisture ingress. The termination range is based on the cable insulation diameter. The minimum insulation diameter is the smallest cable size on which the termination will shrink onto and properly seal. The maximum insulation diameter is the largest cable size that will permit the core to be removed. Kit Contents Every JPT and JIPT comes complete with housing and stress tube pre-assembled on the core, ready for installation. Easy to read installation instructions will take you from cable preparation through installation. Every JPT and JIPT kit includes a handy cable preparation template to ensure proper cable cut-backs as shown. All kits include a tube of silicone grease, two plastic gloves and two strips of selffusing silicone tape. Jacketed Concentric Neutral (J) kits include mastic for sealing neutral wires, Concentric Neutral kits include a stainless steel wire tie for size 1 cable, and Metallic Type (M) kits include a grounding adapter for the metal tape. JPT Specifications and Catalog Numbers The JPT and JIPT termination design couples cold shrink technology and our pull down jacket seal features to provide a termination line that covers the widest range of applications with the fewest number of models. Just seven models cover 0.64 (16mm) to 2.10 (53mm) insulator diameter cables (#2 through 1250 kcmil). 10 Underground Cable Accessories JOSLYN Easy-On II Terminations 15kV through 35kV Class The Easy-On II termination is used on jacketed concentric neutral, metal tape shielded or wire shielded cables without need for additional kits or tapes. The termination ground (or neutral) connection has the same ampacity as the cable shield (neutral system. The Easy-On II terminations E5200, E5202 and E5203 are light enough to hang from a fuse cutout. A full line of connectors is available for Easy-On II terminations for conductor sizes 6 AWG through 1000 KCM. Connector types include: pin type, 6 inch copper wire lead, eyebolt, in-line sleeve, aerial, flat bus and spade. Mounting Instructions Joslyn provides termination mounting brackets for structures, poles and crossarms. Brackets are galvanized steel and meet all NEMA and applicable ASTM standards. Detailed dimensional data is available in the Joslyn catalog section PH Brackets. The Easy-On II termination meets all industry requirements and is a Class I (outdoor) termination as defined in IEEE 48 standard for high voltage terminations. It contains a porcelain insulator and a factory-made elastomer stress relief for use on all synthetic insulated solid dielectric cables. The stress control elastomer is installed within the porcelain at the factory. Sizes are available for all shielded cables in voltage classes from 2kV through 34.5kV and conductor sizes through 1000 KCM. Product Features The porcelain insulator has maximum resistance to moisture, industrial pollution and seacoast pollution. Porcelain is the most reliable insulator for use where insulator dry-band arcing may occur. The termination interior dielectric system is the Joslyn patented spring loaded elastomer system. The spring force on the elastomer produces a strong dielectric interface along the cable and the porcelain bore; it prevents the ingress of water, and it accommodates the thermal expansion and contraction of the cable. The Joslyn patented elastomer spring load system is the most reliable method to provide continuous mechanical force to the elastomer, thereby negating any elastomer permanent set. The termination interior dielectric system contains a conductive elastomer stress relief cone. All of the termination interior elastomer dielectric parts are factory assembled. Termination field assembly is as easy as pulling the two pins releasing the elastomer compression spring. No tapes, tubes, nuts or bolts. No pushing or pulling or shrinking to fit. UD-10

They not only make the connection to the shielded underground cable, but they also are a part of the sealing system. Aluminum connectors are not recommended in corrosive environments or when a copper aerial drop wire is used. All compression connectors along with the applicable aerial connections (parallel groove, eyebolt, aerial and flat pad) meet all industry standards such as EEI TD-160 and ANSI/NEMA CC All the aluminum connectors are tin plated. The first is the E5200 series which uses small diameter porcelains for conductor sizes through 250 KCM. The second is the E5260 series which uses large diameter porcelains for conductor sizes through 1000 KCM. 16 Underground Cable Accessories JOSLYN PSC Terminations 15kV through 46kV Class The Joslyn PSC (Preformed Stress Control) termination meets all industry requirements and is a Class 1 (outdoor) termination as defined in IEEE 48 standard for high voltage terminations. It contains a porcelain insulator and factorymade elastomer stress relief for use on all synthetic solid dielectric cables. Sizes are available for all shielded cables in voltage classes from 2kV through 46kV and conductor sizes through 2000 KCM. Product Features The porcelain insulator has maximum resistance to moisture, industrial pollution and seacoast pollution. Porcelain is the most reliable insulator for use where insulator dryband arcing may occur. The brass top cap has maximum resistance to industrial and seacoast pollution. O-rings seal the top cap to the porcelain. This is the most reliable and proven seal available in the industry. Connectors are available for aluminum and copper conductor cables. The external connection to the overhead system may be made with a Joslyn eyebolt, aerial or spade termination connector. All the aluminum lower castings are Almag 35, the most corrosion resistant aluminum alloy available. The termination lower casting makes the cable shield ground connection with no extra parts, straps or soldering. The electric stress control cone is a factory made soft elastomer which also seals the cable shield to environmental moisture. The Joslyn patented, spring-loaded elastomer filler is the most reliable factory made dielectric system available. The resulting dielectric interfaces have high dielectric strength, prevent ingress of moisture and accommodates the thermal expansion and contraction of the cable. The Joslyn patented spring loaded elastomer system is the most reliable method to provide continuous mechanical force to the elastomer, thereby compensating for elastomer permanent set. UD-16

Connectors Eyebolt Top Cap All PSC terminations require a connector to make the contact from the cable conductor to the bare overhead system. Those terminations having an eyebolt top (2-2/0) use a pin-type connector. This connector is available in copper, aluminum or bi-metal styles. The pin accommodates conductor 6 through 2/0. The eyebolt accommodates conductors 2 through 2/0. UD-17

The Joslyn 69 and 138 kv terminations meet or exceed the requirements of the applicable IEEE-48 standard for Class 1 Terminations. FEATURES: SPRING-LOADED ELASTOMER STRESS CONE: Provides stress relief at the cable semi-conducting insulation shield and a permanent elastomeric seal at the termination base. Spring pressure on the stress-cone compensates for the expansion and contraction over a wide temperature range, assuring a void-free interface under severe climatic conditions. SOLID/LIQUID DIELECTRIC SYSTEMS: The excellent heat transfer characteristics provide a termination that does not limit the current rating of the cable. The current carrying capacity of the terminator is equal to that of the cable. FAST, EASY INSTALLATION: Unit is pre-assembled. Taping and special tools are not required. Cable cut back dimensions do not vary and are the same for each cable. FIELD MAINTENANCE: No field maintenance, beyond periodic cleaning, is required. If cable replacement is required, the termination housing can be retrofit with the new termination kit at the installation site. The connection of these centers to the underground electrical network must be very reliable since the system s dielectric integrity depends on the cable terminals used to make this connection. Combining new technologies with the experience gained in over 30 years as a pioneer in the design and manufacture of accessories to terminate solid dielectric insulated cables, Joslyn has designed a terminal which meets the strict electromechanical requirements for connecting the high voltage cables to the gas insulated switchgear. Features Joslyn cable terminations for high voltage SF6 insulated metal enclosed switchgear are designed to terminate 115kV solid dielectric cables with Al or Cu conductors up to 1200 mm 2. Joslyn terminations meet all the dimensional requirements of IEC 859 standard. Track resistant epoxy resin insulator. Pressure tested (water filled) to 36 bars. All electrical contact points are silver (Ag) plated. All metal parts in contact with SF6 are made of Cu alloys or stainless steel. One piece pre-assembled design eliminates on-site assembly error for fast and easy installation. No special tools required. Preformed geometric stress relief eliminates critical and time consuming manual taping. Spring loaded elastomeric sealing system for a highly reliable non thermally sensitive seal.
