5 SECTION - INTRODUCTION Congratulations on your choice of a ValMetal Conveyor-Regulator to complement your farming operation. This equipment has been designed and manufactured to meet the needs of a discriminating buyer. Safe, efficient and trouble free operation of your new equipment requires that you and anyone else who will be operating or maintaining the machine, read and understand the Safety, Operation and Maintenance informations contained in this Operator's Manual. Keep this manual handy for frequent reference and to pass on to new operators or owners. Call your ValMetal Dealer or Distributor if you need assistance or information. 6 SECTION - SAFETY SAFETY ALERT SYMBOL The Safety Alert symbol identifies important safety messages on this Valmetal equipment and in this manual. When you see this Safety Alert symbol, be alert to the possibility of personal injury or death. Follow the instructions in the safety message. This Safety Alert symbol means ATTENTION! BECOME ALERT! Note : The use of the signal words DANGER, WARNING and CAUTION with the safety messages. The appropriate signal word for each message has been selected using the following guide-lines: DANGER CAUTION An immediate and specific hazard which WILL result in severe personal injury or death if the proper precautions are not taken. A specific hazard or unsafe practice which COULD result in severe personal injury or death if proper precautions are not taken. 7 IMPORTANT YOU are responsible for the SAFE operation and maintenance of your equipment. YOU must ensure that you and anyone else who is going to operate, maintain or work around the machine be familiar with the operating and maintenance procedures and related SAFETY information contained in this manual. Remember, YOU are the key to safety. Good safety practices not only protect you but also the people around you. Make these practices a working part of your safety program. Be certain that EVE- RYONE operating this equipment is familiar with the recommended operating and maintenance procedures and follows all the safety precautions. Most accidents can be prevented. Do not risk injury or death by ignoring good safety practices. Owners must give operating instructions to operators or employees before allowing them to operate the machine, and at least annually thereafter per OSHA regulation 9.7. The most important safety device on this equipment is a SAFE operator. It is the operator's responsibility to read and understand ALL Safety and Operating instructions in the manual and to follow these. All accidents can be avoided. A person who has not read and understood all operating and safety instructions is not qualified to operate the machine. An untrained operator exposes himself and bystanders to possible serious injury or death. Do not modify the equipment in any way. Unauthorized modification may impair the function and/or safety and could affect the Iife of the machine. Think SAFETY! Work SAFELY!. GENERAL SAFETY. Read and understand the Operator's Manual and all safety signs before operating, maintaining or adjusting this equipment.. Have a first-aid kit available for use should the need arise and know how to use it.. Have a fire extinguisher available for use should the need arise and know how to use it.. Wear appropriate protective gear. This list includes but is not limited to: A hard hat Protective shoes with slip resistant soles Protective glasses or goggles Heavy gloves Wet weather gear Hearing protection Respirator or filter mask. Install and secure all guards before starting. 6. Have only a certified electrician connect power to the unit. 7. Know the location and function of the master electrical shutdown should the need arise.. Turn OFF motor, lock out power at master power panel and wait for all moving parts to stop before servicing, maintaining, repairing, adjusting or unplugging. 9. Clear the area of people, especially small children, before starting the unit. 0. Do not permit children to play on or around the equipment, even when not in use.. Review all safety related items annually with all personnel who will be operating or maintaining this machine.. OPERATING SAFETY The moving parts could cause death or severe injury to persons coming in contact with these parts. To help avoid serious accidents, the following guidelines should always be followed.. Read and understand the Operator's Manual and all safety signs before operating, servicing, adjusting, repairing, unplugging or filling.. Be sure all safety shields are in good condition and properly installed before operating, including driveline shields.. Do not allow inexperienced or unqualified persons to operate the machine. Keep bystanders away from equipment while it is in operation. Keep children a safe distance away. Operators of this machine must use common sense at all times.. Do not wear loose or floppy clothing while operating this C Conveyor Regulator - august 0 7

8 equipment. Loose clothing may become entangled in moving parts or moving machinery and cause severe injury or death.. Know the location and function of the master electrical shutdown should the need arise 6. Should a problem occur during operation, turn OFF motor, lock out power at master power panel and wait for all moving parts to stop before servicing, adjusting or repairing. 7. Review safety instructions with all operators annually.. MAINTENANCE SAFETY. Follow ALL the operating, maintenance and safety informations in the manual.. Follow good Shop Practices: Keep service area clean and dry. Be sure electrical outlets and tools are properly grounded. Use adequate light for the job at hand.. Always turn OFF motor, lock out power at master power panel and wait for all moving parts to stop before servicing, adjusting, repairing or unplugging.. Keep hands, feet, hair and clothing away from moving and/or rotating parts.. Never wear ill-fitting, baggy or frayed clothing when working around or on any of the drive system components.. ELECTRICAL SAFETY. Have a qualified electrician to connect power to the machine.. Keep electrical wires and connections in good repair.. Maintain a dry working area.. INSTALLATION SAFETY. Use only a hoist, crane or forklift with sufficient lifting capacity and stability to handle the machine.. Have men available to maneuver the unit when lifting, moving or installing.. Have a qualified electrician to connect power to the machine.. It is the responsability of the contractor, installer and owner to determine if, for security reasons, covers are required. Valmetal inc. STRONGLY RECOMMENDS to put a cover on all sections that are installed less than feet high. If it's impossible to install covers, due to the use of the conveyor, limit the access to the conveyor by installing a fence or safety netting..6 SAFETY DECALS. Keep safety decals and signs clean and readable at all times.. Replace safety decals and signs that are missing or have become illegible.. Replaced parts that displayed a safety sign should also display the current sign.. Safety decals or signs are available from your Dealer Parts Department or the factory. How to install Safety DecaIs: Be sure that the installation area is clean and dry. Decide on the exact position before you remove the backing paper. Remove the smallest portion of the split backing paper. Align the decal over the specified area and carefully press the small portion with the exposed sticky backing in place. Slowly peel back the remaining paper and carefully smooth the remaining portion of the decal in place. Small air pockets can be pierced with a pin and smoothed out using the piece of decal backing paper..7 SIGN-OFF FORM ValMetal inc. follows the general Safety Standards specified by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Anyone who will be operating and/or maintaining the machine must read and clearly understand ALL Safety, Operating and Maintenance information presented in this manual. Do not operate or allow anyone else to operate this equipment until such information has been reviewed. Annually review this information. Make these periodic reviews of SAFETY and OPERATION a standard practice for all of your equipment. We feel that an untrained operator is unqualified to operate this machine A sign-off sheet is provided for your record keeping to show that all personnel who will be working with the equipment have read and understand the information in the Operator's Manual and have been instructed in the operation of the equipment. 10 SECTION - SAFETY DECAL LOCATION The types of decals and locations on the equipment are shown in the illustration below. Good safety requires that you familiarize yourself with the various Safety Decals, the type of warning and the area, particular function related to that area, that requires your SAFETY AWARENESS. 11 SECTION - ASSEMBLY. BASIC MACHINE The basic machine includes drive unit and idler end section. These sections are fully assembled. Drive Unit Idler End Section. SECTIONS Straight sections, decline sections and incline sections are all assembled in the same way. STEP Use carriage bolts /"-6NC, standard washers /", lock washers /" and nuts /"-6NC, all in stainless steel, to joint side panels with the bottom panel and the bottom splice plate. Side panel Bottom Bottom splice plate STEP Lateral splice plate With carriage bolts /"-6NC, standard washers /", lock washers /" and nuts /"-6NC, all in stainless steel, fix lateral splice plates to side panels. STEP Bolt sections together and fix the cross member with carriage bolts /"-6NC, standard washers /", lock washers /" and nuts /"-6NC, all in stainless steel. 12 STEP Skip one attachment Repeat steps, and to the complete assembly of conveyor. STEP Split chain in two equal parts. Use bolts ¼"-0NC x ¾" and nylon locknut ¼"-0NC to joint paddles with the chain. MPORTANT: You must install a paddle every two attachments ( paddle every 0 chain links). In order to maximise the scraper effect, fix all paddles in the same position as shown on the picture below. Bottom of the conveyor SECTION - MAINTENANCE. CHAIN ADJUSMENT. Make sure that the adjusting bolts at the idler end are tightened equally.. Start the motor and verify that the chain fits well in the sprocket teeth.. If an adjustment is necessary TURN OFF THE MOTOR AND LOCK OUT POWER SOURCE, then do the required adjustments. Verify the adjusting bolts on the idler end.. Tighten all bolts. When tightening the chain allow it to run at least a full chain revolution to determine if additional adjustments are required. Check tension while machine is loaded. Check frequently during the first 0 hours of operation. Check periodically afterwards. It takes many hours of running, under full load, for the chain and gear box to reach their highest efficiency. They may, if necessary, be put to work under full load immediately. However, to maximize the lifetime of the machine, it is recommended to run it under gradually increasing loads and to reach a full load only after about 0 hours.. After 00 hours of running, a new worm gear unit should be drained, flushed and refilled with proper oil.. Oil should be changed at least every 00 operating hours or every 6 months, whichever occurs first. Never mix different types of oil. Be sure to drain and wash before using another type of oil.. LUBRICANT SELECTION Lubricating oil must have a viscosity sufficient to reduce friction and allow the speed reducer to operate smoothly under high load and impact. Consult table below for the choice of lubricant. Where a wide temperature range is expected, the synthetic oil EXXON SHC 69 is recommended. Please keep in touch with our engineering department, especially when operating reducers under special conditions such as high or low speed, high temperature or heavy loads.. 28 Warranty VALMETAL INC. CONVEYOR REGULATOR WARRANTY Valmetal Incorporated (Valmetal) warrants a new CONVEYOR REGULATOR to be free from defects in material and workmanship, under normal use and service. Obligation under this warranty shall extend for a period of year ( months) following the date of delivery to the original purchaser and shall be limited to replacement or repair at Valmetal s choice of any parts found to be defective upon inspection by Valmetal. WARRANTY CLAIMS The purchaser claiming under this warranty shall submit a warranty claim in the prescribed form to Valmetal or an Authorized Dealer, for inspection by an authorized company representative. LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY This warranty is expressly in lieu of all other warranties expressed or implied and all other obligations or liabilities on Valmetal s part of any kind or character, including liabilities for alleged representations or negligence. We neither assume nor authorize any other person to assume on our behalf, any liability in connection with the subsequent sale of the CONVEYOR REGULATOR. This warranty shall not apply to any CONVEYOR which has been altered outside the factory in any way if, according to Valmetal, the alterations affected the CONVEYOR operation and reliability, or if the CONVEYOR has been subject to misuse or accident. This warranty does not apply to parts that are under warranty by the original manufacturer and for which service can be obtained directly through authorized service centers. No warranty is extended to regular service items such as lubricants, paint, knives, v-belts and the like. OPERATOR S MANUAL The Purchaser acknowledges having received training on safe operation of the CONVEYOR REGULATOR and further acknowledges that Valmetal does not assume any liability resulting from the operation of the CONVEYOR in any manner other than described in the Operator s Manual supplied at the time of purchase.
