4.3 BREAK-IN Although there are no operational restrictions on the Mixer when it is used for the first time, it is recommended that the following mechanical items be checked: A. After operating for I hour 1. Check the alignment of the pulleys and sprockets. Align as required. 2. Check the tension of the belts and roller chains. Tension as required. 3. Retorque all fasteners and hardware. B. After operating for 10 hours 1. Check the alignment of pulleys, sprockets and tension of belts and chains. Align and tension as required. 2. Retorque all fasteners and hardware. 3. Go to the normal servicing and maintenance schedule as defined in the Maintenance Section. 4.4 PRE-OPERATION CHECK LIST Efficient and safe operation of the Valmetal Rotary Mixer requires that each operator reads and understands the operating procedures and all related safety precautions outlined in this section. A pre-operation checklist is provided for the operator. It is important to follow this checklist in order to ensure personal safety and the good mechanical condition of the machine. Before operating the Rotary Mixer and each time thereafter, the following areas should be checked off: 1. Lubricate the machine per the schedule outlined in the Maintenance Section. 2. Check the tension and alignment of all v-belts and chains. Tension and align as required. 3. Check for entangled material in any of the rotor, auger or drive components. 4. Check that all bearings turn freely. 5. Check that all electrical wires and connections are in good condition and tight. 6. Make sure that the mixer is sitting level and that the electronic scale is calibrated. 7. Make sure all guards and shields are in place, secured and functioning as designed. 12

4.5 OPERATING OPERATIONAL HINTS Although the mixer is simple and easy to operate, there are some basic rules and steps to follow to achieve top mixing performance. It may be necessary to make some trial loads before the ideal mixture is achieved LOADING BALES Note: Make sure no twines from bale are put into the tub. Attention: One small bale can be dropped at a time but large square or round bales must be divided and fed gradually. It is very important that dry forages are coarsely cut first, than the other ingredients can be added while the mixer is running UNLOADING Avoid stopping the Rotary Mixer when fully loaded. It is recommended to unload the mixed ration immediately after mixing. A fully loaded tub left sitting for a long period of time will allow the mixed ration to settle in the tub, on the rotor and on the auger. It will take more horse power and cause more stress on the mixer drive mechanisms CUTTING KNIVES The quantity and location of knives that come standard with the mixer are what we think is the best cutting action with a minimum of horsepower requirements. Removing knives will decrease the speed of cutting action and reduce the horsepower requirements. The long stem forages will continue to be cut as other materials are added and mixed LOADING SEQUENCE The loading sequence may vary but typical sequence would be : 1- Long stem hay 2- Haylage 3- Corn silage 4- Small quantity ingredients (minerals, proteins, etc.) 5- Grains, wet and dry ingredients 6- Water or any other liquid ingredients As a rule of thumb, when all ingredients are added, allow a final mix time of 3 to 7 minutes. You may have to make some tries to find the best loading sequence for your own situation. 13

SECTION 5 SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE MAINTENANCE SAFETY 1. Follow ALL the operating, maintenance and safety information in the manual. 2. Turn off motor, lock out power source and wait for all moving parts to stop before servicing, adjusting, repairing or unplugging. 3. Follow good shop practices - Keep service area clean and dry. - Be sure electrical outlets and tools are properly grounded. - Use adequate light for the job at hand. 4. Make sure all guards are in place and properly secured when maintenance work is completed. 5. Never wear ill-fitting, baggy or frayed clothing when working around or on any of the drive system components. 6. Never climb onto the machine when a motor is running. Keep others away. 7. Keep hands, feet, hair and clothing away from moving or rotating parts. 8. Clear the area of bystanders, especially small children, when carrying out any maintenance and repairs or making any adjustment. 5.1 SERVICE FLUIDS AND LUBRICANTS 1. Grease: Use an SAE multi purpose high temperature grease with extreme pressure (EP) performance or SAE multi purpose lithium base grease. 2. Gearbox Oil: Use an SAE 80/90 or SAE 70/80 gear oil for all operating conditions. 3. Storing Lubricants: Your machine can operate at top efficiency only if clean lubricants are used. Use clean containers to handle all lubricants. Store them in an area protected from dust, moisture and other contaminants GREASING Refer to Section for recommended grease. Use a Maintenance Checklist to keep a record of all scheduled maintenance. 1. Use only a hand-held grease gun for all greasing. Air powered greasing systems can damage the seals on bearings and lead to early bearing failure. 2. Wipe grease fitting with a clean cloth before greasing to avoid injecting dirt and grit. 3. Replace and repair broken fittings immediately. 4. If fittings will not take grease, remove and clean thoroughly. Replace if necessary. 5. Pump the grease slowly until a slight film of grease appears around the bearing seal. 14

5.1.3 LUBRICATING 1. Use the maintenance record provided in section 5.3 to keep a record of all scheduled maintenance. 2. Lubricate the drive line on the electric drive unit every 8 to 10 hours. See figure 2: - 2 bearings on the jack shaft; - 2 grease fittings; - 2 universal joints on the PTO shaft; 3. Lubricate the chain drive system as shown on figure 4: - 2 bearings on the input shaft every 8 to 10 hours ; - One bearing at the end of the rotor and one at the end of the auger weekly; - Lubricate chains monthly. Use open gear lubricant, Gear Glid TM or equivalent. 4. Lubricate 3 bearings on the door opening shaft monthly (see figure 3). 5. Lubricate the rotor and auger bearings one on each side of the ladder weekly (figure 3). Fig. 3 Door opening shaft bearing and rotor and auger bearings CAUTION! Guards are shown removed for illustrative purposes only. Never operate with guards removed. Fig. 2 Electric drive unit 15

5.1.4 ADJUSTING ROLLER CHAINS Both roller chains have spring loaded idler that should be checked weekly. The spring coil spacing should be 1/8 inch (3 mm). If the spacing is less, adjust the tension. 1. Adjust the turnbuckle to the right coil spacing. 2. If the chain is too loose, shorten the chain by removing a link from the chain or replace the entire chain (see figure 5). Link plate Cotter pin Offset link Connector link 3. Re-adjust tension and install and secure guards before resuming work. Fig. 5 Removing link CAUTION! Guards are shown removed for illustrative purposes only. Never operate with guards removed. Fig. 4 Chain drive system 16

5.2 MAINTENANCE IMPORTANT NOTICES : - Verify all safety guards regularly. Replace all damaged or missing shield immediately. - Keep all safety decals clean. Replace if removed or not readable. - Inspect knife bolts regularly, make sure they are tight. - Inspect rotor rubbers. Cuts made by knives should be straight. If not, check knives BELTS TENSION MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE 1. If only the motor(s) belts have to be tighten, loosen the motor bolts and move the motor(s) back (see step 2 above). 2. If drive line belts must be tighten, loosen the motor(s) bolts and tighteners and follow the initial belts tension procedure described above. The principle is to keep the auxiliary shaft parallel to avoid premature wear of the belts and undue axial tension on the auxiliary shaft. - Knives must be replaced when the break-up and cutting time of long stems materials get longer and that there is an increase in horse-power requirement. - If a welding job has to be performed on the mixer, ALWAYS disconnect the power cords from scale indicator. Always ground the welding machine to the part to be welded to avoid electrical current to pass through bearings, chains, gearbox or scale weigh bars INITIAL BELTS TENSION PROCEDURE 1. Tension drive line (PTO) belts first. Make sure to keep the auxiliary shaft parallel to the frame, alterning between the two adjusting screw. With a measuring tape, verify the distance between the plate and the frame. 2. The motor(s) belts should be tensioned only by moving the motor(s) back with the help of the tightener(s) attach to the motor(s) mount(s) in order to keep the auxiliary shaft parallel. 3. Tighten the motor bolts and secure all the safety shields. 4. After break-in, 4 to 10 hours of operation, check the alignment of the pulleys and tension of the belts, align and tension if necessary, following the procedure below. 17
