This step tests for continuity through the 390 Ω resistor in the windshield wiper/washer switch. 6. This step tests for continuity through the delay resistors in the windshield wiper/washer switch. The measured resistance will change in sequence from low to high as the delay speed is increased. Wipers Inoperative - One or More Modes Schematic Reference: Wiper/Washer Schematics Connector End View Reference: Wiper/Washer Connector End Views DEFINITION: Windshield wipers are inoperative in one or more modes. Did you perform the Wiper/Washer 1 System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections? Go to Step 2 1. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF. 2. Attempt to operate the 2 windshield wipers in all modes. Does the system operate normally? Go to Symptoms - Wiper/Washer Systems Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems Go to Step 3

2 3 Do the windshield wipers operate in the low speed mode? Go to Step 4 Go to Step 8 4 Do the windshield wipers operate in the high speed mode? Go to Step 6 Go to Step Turn the ignition OFF. 2. Disconnect the multifunction turn signal harness connector C3. 3. Connect a fused jumper wire from the windshield wiper switch high signal circuit terminal in the body harness connector half to a good ground. 4. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF. 6 Do the windshield wipers operate at high speed? 1. Turn the ignition OFF. 2. Disconnect the windshield wiper motor module connector. 3. Test the resistance from the windshield wiper switch voltage supply circuit terminal to the windshield wiper switch signal circuit terminal in the windshield wiper motor harness connector. 4. Operate the windshield wiper/washer switch in the following positions: o MIST o LO 390 Ω Go to Step 10 Go to Step 9 7 Is the resistance near the specified value in all of the listed switch positions? 1. Test the resistance from the windshield wiper switch voltage supply circuit terminal to the windshield wiper switch signal circuit terminal in the 1000 Ω 10K Ω Go to Step 7 Go to Step 11 Go to Step 15 Go to Step 13

Test the windshield wiper switch low singal circuit ofr an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems. 9 Test the windshield wiper switch high signal circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems. Go to Step 17 Go to Step Repair the wiper switch ground circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems. Go to Step 17 Go to Step Is the repair complete? Test the windshield wiper switch voltage supply circuit for an open or short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems. Go to Step Test the windshield wiper switch signal circuit for an open or short to Go to Step 17 Go to Step 12 Go to Step 17 Go to Step 13

4 ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems. 13 Inspect for poor connections at the windshield wiper/washer switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems. 14 Replace the windshield wiper/washer switch. Refer to Turn Signal Multifunction Switch Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column. Go to Step 17 Go to Step Did you complete the replacement? Inspect for poor connections at the windshield wiper motor module. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems. Go to Step Replace the windshield wiper motor module. Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement. Go to Step 17 Go to Step 16 Did you complete the replacement?
